So this is the second season I have been using this tool. Initially I wish that the head was not so proprietary and was the standard size so I could replace it with a fixed head that uses at least 50% less line. The head itself does not work well especially for a place like mine, I have a 2 acre parcel with some rough and rocky terrain so it eats line and once you get down to under 2 ft of line in the spool it just lets go. I holds up fairly well to my Stihl Although I have the break it up due to charging. I have 2 60 volt batteries and am going to add at least 1 more maybe two, with the cost of the unit plus 4 batteries you can do the math but i feel the fact I have very little maintenance and no fuel it will pay for it self in another season or two, lets hope it ... MoreSo this is the second season I have been using this tool. So long story short I would buy it again and would recommend it to a friend whoever the head needs to go back to engendering and make it more versatile or upgrades for it need to be manufactured for those reasons I would call this a homeowner tool and not a tool for commercial use or for prolonged use as the run time for one 60 volt battery is about 30 minutes give or take.

This trimmer has exceeded all of my expectations so far. It has the power to tackle long grass and invasive weeds with ease. The ability to use 0.095" line was a deciding factor for me to purchase this model, and it has helped to clear some light brush creeping up on the rear edge of my property from the woods beyond. It is extremely quiet and easy to maintain compared to the gas model I was using previously. I have not noticed any drop in power by switching to a cordless tool. Even with a heavy 3.0ah/9.0ah Flexvolt battery, the trimmer is surprisingly well balanced. I have a yard just under half an acre and am able to trim the entire periphery along with the edges of the front walk, driveway, and mulch beds on a single charge. For years I lived on 3 acres of land, and relied on a pro-grade Stihl gas-powered trimmer for most of the yard. It had the power, and it could go all day. The only problem was maintenance. You had to work to keep the engine in good working shape, you had to keep gas on hand, and that doesn't even mention the noise or the fumes. When I moved to a half-acre yard, I gave the Stihl to a friend, and looked for something a bit smaller. Having always loved DeWalt tools, I decided to try the Flexvolt Trimmer. I did have hesitations about the power that a battery powered outdoor tool could provide, but the location of purchase had a decent return policy, so I decided to try it out.The first day I used it this past summer, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was it weighted well, but it felt sturdy, seemed really well-built, and felt the way it should. I charged the battery (it came with a 9ah battery), and headed out. The noise is more than manageable (especially coming from a gas trimmer) and I don't feel like I've really lost much (if any) power. I love that the trimmer has a high and low mode. I was able to trim the entire property on one battery (even though I had to eject new string multiple times), which really surprised me. I had bought a second one as a backup, but didn't really need to use it. As a whole, for small yards, this is a no-brainer. It has all the power you need, it cuts through the weeds with ease, lasts a long time, and I feel like it will be with me for years. DeWalt, keep making the Flexvolt line, and I'll keep using them!

I’m on my 3rd one of these trimmers…all 3 have had the same problem where the motor begins to smoke and quits working. I weed eat from April-Oct and they all seem to quit in September. When the trimmer works, it does a great job. My husband and I have invested a lot of money into the batteries, that’s why I’m on number 3. I don’t like using a gas powered trimmer. The is perfect size for me to use. No gas to worry about. I have had a few batteries seem to get stuck and won’t come out. My husband had to help me there. It’s getting expensive buying trimmers ever year.
How can DeWalt sell something like this. Do you try to ruin your brand name? De Trimmer when it works does a good job. But it doesn’t work for a long time. Using it for about 5 - 10 minutes it starts to smoke! And after a few times even when stop working as soon as it starts smokin it quits and doesn’t come back to work ever again. I have several of these expensive 60 Volt batteries. And no the device it no useable? This si crazy and makes me sad! How on earth can DeWalt stand for something? I had it in for warranty repair abaout a year ago and now the warranty is passed 2 month and my device it not working anymore. A new motor, probable as weak as the one who broke for the second time, costs abaout USD 150.00+ ! I had hesitated for quite some time in making this purchase thinking that the run time would not what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised as I weed eated my yard and my neighbors yard with two bars left. Keep in mind this did not come with a battery and batteries are VERY expensive. Overall experience is positive and was pleased with how it handled. Unit is solid and weighs about the same as my gas powered unit and with the 60v battery, it balances out well so there is no forearm strain. The spool head mechanism and feeder appear to work fine though there is a high pitched whine associated with it while in use. Line feed and line replacement has yet to be evaluated, we'll see how it works after the first spool is run out. I have been accumulating Dewalt products for over 20 years and now I'm at the replacement phase of converting from 18v to the 20/60 volt line of products.
This trimmer will definitely handle what you want to cut regarding grass & weeds. Be prepared to be covered with whatever you’re cutting. Definitely wear long pants & eye protection, considering a full face shield. I’ll be trying again with a long sleeve shirt too as my supporting arm is welted from flying debris. This shield is about 1/3 of the size it needs to be & seems to be in there just for cutting excess line. I would have rated all stars if it wasn’t for this & would like to see a retrofit offered. In the meantime, I’ll use my 2-cycle, it’s safer!
Very powerful. The hi/lo and variable speed trigger is nice. Haven't had to respool it yet. But line bump works smoothly, and nice line that it comes spooled with. All depends on what size battery you use and how thick the grass and weeds are on how long the charge holds. Only downside is how heavy it is. If you run it all day, your arms will know it. Others complain about the narrow guard. I didn't have a problem with it. Never had anything hit me in the face. That's all i care about. Of course my boots and jeans were covered. But I've never ran one that didn't do that..... I should also note that it came packaged well, was brand new, and very little assembly.
I own three of these trimmers, they are very solid and dependable. I also own Stihl gas powered and an Echo electric trimmers -- we have about 4 acres on a steep hillside and the string trimmers are the way to go. The Dewalt is the easiest to operate, it's very powerful for the weight - it even goes right through tough blackberries. The newest model has improved the string feeding, which was my main complaint with the first 60v model. Even my daughters can handle this unit, the larger ECHO and Stihl products are much heavier and harder to handle. I recommend the 9Ah batteries, you should get 45 mins of life. I recommend taking a break every hour to let the head cool off, if it's hot outside and the mowing is heavy. One thing to keep in mind is super thick, wet ... MoreI own three of these trimmers, they are very solid and dependable. I smoked one of the first 60v heads, I think this might have been my fault. It's out of warrantee and I'm happy to send it in to Dewalt for them to look at what caused it. I'm still a huge fan and bought two more of these units, they are great.
I have several 60v tools so I thought I’d give this one a try, right away when I opened the box I was very disappointed and should have returned it. It’s obvious it was designed to fit in that shipping box and not for yard work.Let’s start with the folded shaft. I thought I would have future tools adaptable to the trimmer. Wrong. It’s equipped with a weak spot that’s all.Next the shield might just as well not even be there. I’m used to trimming in shorts and a t-shirt. With the dewalt no matter how you use it your getting covered in debris, my legs were bleeding the first time I used it and thankfully I wear glasses! I’m sure that tiny shield was designed just to fit in the shipping box as well. The trimmer head sucks! Why dewalt did not use the industry standard (M10x1.25 LH) trimmer head is truly baffling.I was not impressed with run time like other reviewers but I will say the trimmer had plenty of power.Don’t waste your money on this tool. I’m used to running quality trimmers like stihl and husqvarna, I purchased the dewalt to try and get away from the vibration of the gas motor, but the dewalt has plenty of vibration of its own and the lack of a proper shield and the difficulty of reloading the string make this tool miserable to use. The battery is also not easy to remove from the trimmer. It’s obvious the engineers who designed this tool do not cut grass!
