BETTER THAN EXPECTED

Really now, what kind of performance do you expect to get from a battery operated vacuum? I expected it would work. I expected it would pick up some dirt and do a reasonable superficial cleaning. Boy, was I ever surprised to see this puppy get right down and suck up deeply embedded sand and grit that even my heavy, high powered, plug-in-the-wall vacuum has a difficult time with. Between the spinning brush and good suction This little Dyson V7 Motorhead did a great job on my medium pile carpet, on mu door mat, and tile floors. I kept in full-power mode only. The manual says it gets only six minutes battery life at full power. Although I didn't time it, I believe I used it somewhat longer than that without any drop-off in power. Another cool feature is this thing weighs almost nothing. With one hand on the trigger handle it is easily picked up and moved around. You know how on an ordinary vacuum when you miss a spot you usually work the vacuum back and forth a couple of times to get back to the missed spot. Not with this little one. Just pick it up with a flick if the wrist and plop it down again where you want it. You do need to make sure the motorhead is flat, but that's easy. Now to the down sides. The plastic down-tube wiggles at the joint where it connects to the vacuum head. Although it does not affect performance, it does feel cheapo. I hope after a few months of use it does not loosen up more, or wear the joint. The fit could be better. I find the same cheapo feeling in the dust emptying mechanism. To empty the dirt, you pull up on a tab located near the top of the motor. The workings slide upward while simultaneously a little trap door opens below to let the crud out. It has a very flimsy feel to it. Like the tube joint, it works, but I do have a concern about how long it will continue to work.Overall, this little powerhouse works exceedingly well. Time will tell if it continues to do so, or if it falls apart.

I loved it for the 2 and so years I've owned it.The reason that it scores 2 out of 5 stars is that the battery that Dyson offers is sold out and the existing battery in my machine failed at just over 2 and a half years. What I am finding now is that the brushes don't appear to make any contact with the smooth tiles we have through most of our house. Around 6 weeks ago I experienced a second problem, with the battery going from fully charged to totally flat after just 12 seconds of running on the Max setting. I have to wait for the vac to recharge again and then use it on the Extended Run setting to finish the job. Very frustrating. Once again, I emailed Dyson Customer Service advising them of the issue I was having. Six days later I had heard nothing, so I phoned them. They are sending me a replacement battery however this is currently out of stock and it could be some time before I receive it. I bought an Animal Origin as the name implied that the vacuum would be able to deal with pet hair. Sadly, that's not the case on the Extended Run setting I currently have to use. I've taken to sweeping my carpet first with a broom to pick up the pet hair that simply gets pushed around and left behind with the vacuum - certainly not what I expected of a reputable brand like Dyson.

Extremely disappointed

Being a Dyson Pure Hot + Cool user and fan, I was excited when my sister gave me her V7 stick vacuum to use as I’d suffered an injury and weight was an issue. She had decided to upgrade to a non-Dyson model. I should have asked why.Fully charged, the vacuum does run maybe 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the Motörhead seems to make a strange pumping suction motion despite my cleaning the roller brush and ensuring there is no blockage with a pair of kitchen tongs (the ball joint area is not easy to access and clean). It simply cannot be used. Max mode is the only decent mode and 6 minutes in my small but kid filled household is not enough. The suction even without a head on it, just the extension wand reveals it actually doesn’t suck that great either. Max mode is the only decent mode and 6 minutes in my small but kid filled household is not enough. The suction even without a head on it, just the extension wand reveals it actually doesn’t suck that great either. The canister which fills with hair and dust rather quickly (animals and long haired children in home) was emptied and cleaned as was the filter. For the life of me I cannot get it to pick up small light crumb style debris from the long hair rug. With kids this is essential. The Motörhead would simply end up with the pile getting caught on the roller and if I lifted the vacuum away, would pull the rug up with it.I’ve got mostly hard Lino floors, so I figured at least all that would be cleaned. Nope. It gets dust up for sure, great. Crumb size particles, maybe some grains of sand etc, that odd tiny bit of sunflower seed or chip the kids dropped and it goes up the wand (I removed the Motörhead by this point) and as soon as I turn off the unit, the darn things fell back down the wand again!I checked the neck at the canister wasn’t blocked, I double checked, emptied and gave a good shake out of the canister and used compressed air to blow out the filter, still no change.I’m sorry Dyson, I love your fan heaters but your vacuums are not fit for purpose.

I bought the V7 Absolute last December directly from Dyson, Over the past ten months, I have come to rely on the V7, not just for quick cleanups, but for most of my regular vacuuming chores. It has replaced my hand-held vacuum completely, and virtually replaced my heavy, corded, much-harder-to-maneuver Hoover upright. The Dyson holds its charge MUCH longer than the stick it replaced, and the basic tools and the bonus pack I received make it incredibly versatile.Admittedly, all this functionality was actually a bit overwhelming when I first received the V7. I was relieved to find that the Dyson support website included an extensive set of "how-to" videos that simplified use, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks that relieved my initial concerns.Although the V7 has been surpassed in some ways by newer "V" models, the only minor drawback I would note is the smaller size of the collection cup compared to newer models. That said, I have never had to stop to empty it while cleaning and so have never found this to be an issue. The battery is rated at 8-25+ minutes (depending on the surface cleaned, normal vs. high power, and tools used), and only once has the battery died before I finished using it—mostly because I hadn't recharged it after the previous use. It fully recharged in about two hours, so it was not a big deal. One drawback: my carpeting has a very low pile, and I limit myself to using normal power to clean it. On high power, I struggle to move and maneuver the V7 with the rotating brush head tool, and it makes a disturbing whining sound. The good news is that normal power seems to be more than adequate to clean the carpet with the beater brush. I would have concerns about using that tool on a thicker carpet.Overall, I am very happy with my V7.

Most powerful vacuum I've owned in the smallest package I've used.

I purchased the V7 Animal to use in my 1-bedroom apartment. I live with a cat and I have medium-length hair that will shed as well. Vacuuming with a traditional vacuum was a pain- it's heavy, it only does an okay job, and it takes up a lot of space. After spotting a good deal on an older Dyson model I picked this up while being reticent about if it would work the way I wanted. Turns out that this lighter cordless vacuum does a better job than my old heavy wired vacuum and takes up less space. I've been consistently impressed in my first month of ownership and now I vacuum much more often because it's so easy. Battery life is no issue for my use case (and I know it's gotten better on newer models) and I would easily recommend this for even a 2-bedroom as well. Battery life is no issue for my use case (and I know it's gotten better on newer models) and I would easily recommend this for even a 2-bedroom as well. It does such a good job that you won't need to go over the same spot multiple times and since it's easy to use you can vacuum more often and have less dirt/grime/hair/etc build up. I haven't used the accessories much but they seem to do what they're intended for. The easy conversion to handheld is really nice as is swapping out any other attachments. Emptying the bin is easy as well. After this experience I highly recommend Dyson vacuums. Will it last long term? Time will tell but the build quality seems solid enough that with care the product will last. The design itself seems to require less maintenance than a traditional vacuum, too. I'll be suggesting this to my family so they don't need to struggle with a heavy vacuum in their older age.

Great story right? Jan 5th marked tree take down and Christmas clean up day and I finally opened my box to set up my new toy.Disappointment #1: My Dyson comes with a wall mount, but no screws to actually mount the 'base' with. This is not the end of the world. I mean, maybe they were supposed to be there, maybe they weren't. My husband is handy enough, I'm sure he can find some screws lying around in a tool box right? I chalk that up to hmmm - OK?In any case, the machine needs to be fully charged before I can use it anyway, so I plug it in to charge for a few hours while I do other things, and figure we can sort out mounting it 'tomorrow'.Confusion point/ Disspointment #2: My Dyson comes with 4 attachments (5 if you count the main carpet attachment). I love that each attachment has a little clip and locks into the base to avoid the inevitable... "Where the heck is the 'X' attachment for the vacuum" question that everyone experiences. Loosing attachments is a consistent irritation for vacuum owners. These clip address that right?Except - I'm not an engineer, but I can't figure where 4 pieces lock in. In fact the maximum I can fit is 2 - if I choose to mount the stair attachment (mini floor attachment if you will), I can really only lock in 1 - because it's so wide, a 2nd won't fit. Again - I'm no mechanical engineer- but I think you could've designed a base with 4 clip in's to fit the 4 attachments without incurring a whole lot of additional design costs. Especially when a vacuum is 500$? So now I'm frustrated - maybe a little irritated even - because at least 2 of these attachments are bound for loosely living 'somewhere' other than in the vacuum unit and predictably will be lost in the future.MAJOR Dissapointment #3: I'm pouring over the manual/guide/instructions trying to figure out how all 4 attachments are supposed to fit onto this base (because I still can't believe a 500$ vacuum would send 4 pieces and a base that doesn't hold them...my brain isn't accepting this), and I notice the 'power life' on the machine is 20 minutes under 'HIGH' power. (I've used the machine and the 'high' power is pretty underwhelming compared to most vacuums you might buy for 149) or 6 minutes for 'super power'. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but most people who are interested in spending the money on the 'amazing power of a dyson', are probably interested in it's super power capabilities. 6 minutes? News flash? That isn't enough time to properly vacuum a set of stairs without rushing.I basically need to revolve my life around 3.5 hrs of charging and 6 minutes of vacuuming 2ce a day (3X a day on weekends) in order to keep my house vacuumed - or have 2-3 of these machines charging at any given time. 6 minutes? Is there something that I am completely missing? I've always wanted one of these super powerful machines so I can finally vacuum to my standards... .and I feel like my husband spent a fortune on a poorly designed (potentially missing parts - I'm not sure), machine that works 6 minutes every 3.5 hours?FINAL STRAW: I submitted this note to customer experience weeks ago and other that a request for my warranty information, which I provided 6 days ago - to zero response...I'm at a loss

I just purchased the Dyson V7 cordless vacuum and feel it’s what has been missing my entire life! AMAZING suction power and very light to use. I am reading through all of the negative reviews and praying I don’t encounter the same issues but so far, I couldn’t be happier with the product! We live in a small two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a gorgeous but shedding cat, and the amount of dust and hair the vacuum collected in less than 10 minutes was astounding! I do agree that an on/off switch would have been a better choice to avoid having to hold the clutch down however the product works so well and is a pleasure to use. I’ve registered under the 2 year warranty but hope nothing goes wrong during this time. My theory is that the battery might be drained ... MoreI just purchased the Dyson V7 cordless vacuum and feel it’s what has been missing my entire life! AMAZING suction power and very light to use. I do agree that an on/off switch would have been a better choice to avoid having to hold the clutch down however the product works so well and is a pleasure to use. I’ve registered under the 2 year warranty but hope nothing goes wrong during this time. My theory is that the battery might be drained after use in larger houses with multiple rooms, and I think this vacuum is better suited to smaller residences. Overall, the best vacuum I’ve purchased, so far! Very happy customer.

V7 Animal Excellent, Get Absolute if You Have Smooth Floors
5 January 2019

I purchased the V7 Animal since it seemed to be the best balance of price and performance based on my needs. After I purchased the vacuum, I saw a review on-line that compared all the Dyson stick vacuums V6 through V7, and it confirmed the thoughts that I had about the V7 being the best bang-for-the-buck. It said that the V7 was a big improvement over the V6, but that the V8 and V10 were not big jumps over the V7. The main comment that I would make is that if you have smooth floors like hardwood or linoleum, get the Absolute version instead. The Soft roller cleaner head does a fantastic job on these floors, even on the lower suction mode. I ended up purchasing the Soft roller cleaner head separately, but it would have been cheaper to buy it as part of the Absolute ... MoreI purchased the V7 Animal since it seemed to be the best balance of price and performance based on my needs. My second comment is that the charging stand needs more locations to store attachments. I purchased a 3rd party product that snaps onto the charging stand and then provides more attachment storage locations, but it would have been nice if Dyson had provided that upfront. My final comment is that I wish the unit had a larger battery pack, or else a way to swap batteries between a spent pack and a fresh pack. When I purchased the vacuum, I figured that 30 minutes was plenty of run time for a "dust buster" type vacuum. The problem is, you only get 20 minutes if using a power head, and only ~6 minutes if on high suction mode. This still would not be an issue, except for the fact that the V7 Animal works so well that I find myself using it to try and vacuum most of the house instead of just as a quick pick-up type vacuum.

Works So Good!!!
22 December 2020

I purchased this version of the Dyson Stick Vacuum and let me tell you it was the BEST purchase ever. I got it for a super good deal during Black Friday. I only paid $268 and it came with two extra tools for free with a storage bag. I’ve used almost all of the heads so far that it came with and they all work so well. It charges up super quick and the suction is amazing on the normal speed and the high speed is super strong. I love that it is super light and it doesn’t get heavy after vacuuming for an extended time. My mom has the identical stick vacuum in the Shark brand and it’s so heavy, dies quickly, and hair gets bound around the heads and it’s so hard to get it off. The Dyson’s rollers are able to come out so you can easily clean them. The Dyson’s rollers are able to come out so you can easily clean them. I am able to sweep my vinyl planking and carpeted bedrooms all in one sitting and it has never ran out of charge, I have a 1500 sq ft home. I was a little hesitant about the price because you see so many stick vacuums that are much cheaper but in my opinion sometimes it’s just better to pay more up front because you will get a much better quality. I’ve had a corded Dyson for ten plus years and it has never let me down and it was so reliable. I just wanted something a little less bulky and this was the perfect solution. I am so happy with my purchase and I can honestly say I use it every single day without a single complaint!
