What I really like about the ECM: the upgraded headgroup, steam and hot water valves, pressure gages mounted at top of the front panel, no burn steam wand and hot water despensor, the rotatorary pump, and it's quality construction. My shots continue to improve daily as I'm relearning my work flow processes from grinding to steaming by watching Marc's how-to videos. My Synchronika is a pleasure to use and a beauty to look at. I'm very pleased with my purchase and look forward to many years of producing exceptional espressos and lattes.

The valves will get stiff from running dry in five or six months, and with a tube of suitable food-safe grease handy in a drawer you can have that fixed in less than ten minutes. The machine is remarkably service-friendly.

Despite what is posted online, the cup rail DOES come off the tank cover using a 2.5 mm allen key which will work well in the 600's new home which has lower cabinets. I'll just find some shiny stainless acorn nuts to fill the holes where the rail was attached. The machine is nicely laid out with the gauges at the top of the machine rather than below near the drip tray on the 600. And they have that steam punk look; I wish the flow control gauge was the same, but it still matches. Not sure I like the little ball for the FCD, but I will adjust. And adjust I must to the spring-loaded levers rather than the lovely rotary valves on the 600. The steam wand seems a bit odd but there should be room for a 20 oz milk pitcher.ECM packages a bunch of portafilters and baskets although I really, really wish they would include a bottomless portafilter. I now have a growing collection of single and double-spouted filters and far too many single-dose baskets. eBay here we come!Although I am not going to plumb this in for now, all the accessories to do so are included. And ECM left the old mushroom valve when they installed the FCD which is nice.Heat up time is great and coffee is beyond compare. This is a once in a lifetime machine.

My Dream Machine!
8 November 2022

I purchased this machine as a replacement to my aging Breville dual boiler. I’ve been researching espresso machines for a few years and the ECM Synchronika has consistently reviewed well. I was looking for an espresso machine that had dual boilers, a rotary pump, joy stick steam and hot water valves, stainless steel boilers, had the ability to be plumbed-in and connected directly to a water drainage. The ECM Synchronika had all the features I was looking for! This espresso coffee machine is well built! The fit and finish is exceptional. I purchased my ECM Synchronika with control flow so that I could experiment with extracting coffee at variable flow rates. The control flow also provides me with the ability to preinfuse my coffee before extracting a shot. I like the little things about this machine like the angled portafilter handle, the subtle silver colored PID display that doubles as a shot timer and the fact that the gauges are located higher on the machine. I’ve paired my ECM Synchronika with the Ceado E37S and I’m getting some of the best coffee ever! The ECM Synchronika has a classic look making it the perfect machine to complete my coffee bar and the perfect Dream Machine for me!

New Synchronika has just landed

Well, after 7 years my QM67 died last Saturday. It has had a slow cold water leak for some time that I could not locate and the vibratory pump just quit. I didn’t want to pack up something that big and after opening it to replace the steam wand a while back and the little computer before that, I didn’t know how long it would take me to replace the pump without tearing something else up. So, I opted to order a new big box to un pack! The walnut accented version of the Synchronika is quite a beautiful beast. I read many reviews before talking with the sales lady at Clive on Saturday. So, I opted to order a new big box to un pack! The walnut accented version of the Synchronika is quite a beautiful beast. I read many reviews before talking with the sales lady at Clive on Saturday. She confirmed that I would probably like the joystick steam and hot water controls better than knobs and she was right. Crisp on and off is what you get and it just speaks “well made.” On one review, someone complained the steam pressure was lacking. I am not sure what mine was doing the first three drinks because I was too busy watching the milk froth much faster than I am used to. Rest assured there is plenty of steam pressure.Another criticism was that the drip tray is “loose.” I figured out quickly that the little bit of slack is just enough to allow the tray to slide out enough so that one can lift it out without spilling. It is not as deep as the QM67’s but it makes for some space between the bottom of the tray and the countertop. Pretty sure it was engineered this way.It will take a little while to get my grind just right as the rotary pump pressurized much quicker than the vibratory pump making me think my grind was too coarse on the first shot. Next shot it took too long to get 30gm out, so I have a little work to do. That is just one more thing that makes espresso and espresso drinks so much more than drip coffee. After a brief experience, I feel it is safe to recommend ECM’s product. I would add that since most vibratory pumps go out in around five years, it makes sense to spend a little more up front, to save on repairs or replacement after a few years.

I’ve been holding off reviewing this machine until now. I don’t like posting negative reviews but I feel I got lemon in this machine. My wife and I bought this as a joint Christmas gift in Dec 2020 for $3K. We enjoy our daily lattes and thought we deserved an upgrade from our nearly 20 year old Rancilio Silvia which worked flawlessly and was still going strong when I sold it. Big mistake! I initially really liked the ECM Synchronika. It had great reviews which is a big reason we bought it. After it arrived, I soon realized there were numerous issues. I initially really liked the ECM Synchronika. It had great reviews which is a big reason we bought it. After it arrived, I soon realized there were numerous issues. First of all, I think the machine is noisy. There is a distinct vibration on the left side of the machine when pulling a shot, as if the boiler is vibrating up against the side panel. I have to hold my hand on the panel to get it to stop. Next, there is a popping noise that I reported to WLL. Sounds like a pressure relief of sorts. Goes off when the machine is heating up and even during the night when the machine has been turned off. No idea what that is, but I’ve grown to live with it.The next and biggest issue was the hot water valve failed within the first few months of owning the machine. It would pour out an ounce or two and then just quit. I don’t use the hot water all that much except for preheating our latte mugs so when I finally got around to having to deal with it, I went through all the troubleshooting with WLL support and determined it was indeed the hot water valve. The sent me a replacement valve under warranty, which was cool except they provided no replacement instructions. But I thankfully found instructions online at a competitors website. Unfortunately, the valve inside the hot water assembly is completely frozen and will not come out of the assembly. There’s a 6MM bolt inside the assembly that needs to be removed first before you can get to the valve. The bolt is frozen inside. Hopefully WLL can send me an entire new hot water assembly, otherwise I will be without a fully functioning machine. The next problem I had is the bottom of the water reservoir not seating correctly. The little gray valve at the bottom of the tank where it seats into the machine failed and was leaking water onto my countertop. But WLL sent me a replacement part under warranty. And the final little thing, is the fit and finish of the portafilter handle. As has been mentioned in other reviews, there is a rough edge where the black plastic meets the chrome finish. Should be a better design and finish. What I like about the machine: It looks nice, pulls decent espresso shots, although there’s a learning curve, especially with the bottomless portafilter, does a nice job frothing milk, and I like the temperature adjustments for the dual boilers. However, I can’t recommend this machine. Maybe all the positive reviewers got a great machine and I ended up with a lemon. Either way, I have $3K sunk into this machine and I don’t think these parts should have failed when they did and I expected a quieter machine with finishes that warrant a hefty price tag.

The Synchronika pulls remarkable shots.2. Full flexibility on brew parameters allows for tuning and optimization.3. Excellent, strong steam produces microfoam easily.4. Documentation has all technical details necessary for installation, use and safety.

I've waited a year to review this machine and it is everything they say it is. Of course it makes coffee and steams milk but it's the way it goes about doing it that's the real joy. The pump is super quiet, the steaming wand was powerful out of the box but an upgrade to the 4-hole tip really takes it to another level. The finish of this machine might be the most impressive thing about it though. It's a work of art compared to my former machines (Gaggia Classic, Expobar Office Lever). It's just so enjoyable to use. I clean according to the schedule and have not had any issues with it in over a year, it just consistently puts out perfect espresso and steamed milk. I did upgrade my old Rancilio grinder to a Ceado almost immediately upon receipt of the ECM. It just outclassed the Rancilio and needed something more substantial to pair with. I can't recommend the E37s enough either, it's been fantastic.

It's gorgeous, and I don't regret not getting the wood accents which might weather as wood tends to do. This machine replaces a 13-year old Alex Duetto II dual boiler that served me very, very well for 13 years straight. The Synchronika is a definite upgrade in terms of fit, finish, and the quality of my shots--not exactly sure why--but my shots taste noticeably better than they ever did with the Duetto, even without Flow Control. The Flow Control gauge and valve takes the fun and shot quality to a whole another level. Whether it's pre-infusing and then ramping up the pressure or ramping up and then dropping the pressure to mimic a lever machine, it's all fun, and the resulting espresso is outstanding. I'm sticking with the two-hole steam tip, as it generates near perfect micro-foam for me as quickly as I'm capable of making it (does a much better job of steaming for me than the Duetto ever did). I love the joy stick valves, and any fear I had that there'd be too much "all or nothing" pressure disappeared the first time I steamed milk. I am a huge fan of E-61 machines, because they are such a joy to use, even if a more expensive "push button" fool proof commercial machine could deliver more consistent shots. I used my purchasing credit to get the bottomless portafilter, and glad I did, but the standard curved double spout portafilter is also awesome, as it lays perfectly flat on the pad for tamping (and declumping with portafilter funnel and tool). I was a bit concerned about the "auto-off" "Eco Mode" feature that puts the machine "semi" to sleep after it's been on awhile, but I actually like it. If I wait too long before making coffee and it goes into Eco Mode, I just quickly pull the lever, and the machine heats back up within a couple minutes. Also, if I forget to turn the machine off, no big deal, it just goes into Eco Mode. As I live in a super soft water area out West, I just keep a filled Brita filter on the side (sunshine takes all the chlorine out in a few hours), and use the pour over tank which is super, super convenient and easy since it drains from the bottom, and the lid just flips up on hinges--filling the Duetto was a chore as I had to use a funnel, and had to remove the entire top cup warmer tray. I know the Synchronika costs a few hundred more than most other dual boiler E-61 machines, but I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, and I truly believe this machine will still be gorgeous and cranking out exceptional espresso for 15-20 years with minimal maintenance. As far as Clive Coffee goes, these folks are class acts from start to finish. I have nothing but accolades for everyone associated with this company.

We love her so much we named her "Mama"

We can't recommend the Synchronika more. Along with her matching grinder (we bundled with the Ceado E375) she has changed they way we drink coffee. We've had her for about nine months now and she's more than a machine: she's a friend. Cappuccinos and espressos that we make at home are better than those made by our favorite Los Angeles fancy coffee shop baristas. After several months using the water tank, we built a cabinet for her, plumbed her to a direct water supply, and put in a rinser. I want to stress that for daily use (sometimes multiple uses a day), after a few hours of fun experimenting to make the best shot the we first pulled her out of the box, the machine is quite simple and intuitive to operate. She looks intimidating but becomes your BFF quickly. Yes, ... MoreWe can't recommend the Synchronika more. She looks intimidating but becomes your BFF quickly. Yes, you have to weigh and fiddle with your grind sometimes. Yes, there are some adjustments when you change beans. Yes, there is some fudging with timing but all of that is simple and quick and oh my goodness it's all so worth it. My husband and I have developed completely different styles when creating our best drinks -- he's more of a precision person and I'm more of an eye-baller -- and I really can't tell the difference in the quality of our shots. They are all fabulous. Yes, she is expensive but we plan on keeping her for the rest of our lives. In fact, we are about to put in a whole-house water filter just for her. I would never have made this kind of decision without the folks at Whole Latte Love who made the entire process easy. Their reviews were super helpful when I was deciding on which espresso machine to buy (this new set up was a birthday present for my hubby). Shipping was quick. Everything worked right out of the boxes. Our previous machine was a Gaggia Classic that got us through many years and hard use during the pandemic and is a great machine for the price but the difference in the "pull" and flavor is remarkable. Shock and amaze your friends with your foam skills after you steam your milk at the same time you're pulling the perfect double shot! Buy fancy biscuits to set on your saucer for your afternoon espresso! Go all in! Now please excuse me, I'm going to make my second cappuccino of the morning!
