Changing to a Battery Chainsaw

I have had petrol chainsaws for many years and decided to look at battery alternatives. I have been delighted with the performance of this model - it is quiet, much more powerful than expected, easy to use and much safer. No more pulling a cord or having a noisy smelly machine idling between use. It can tackle fairly large jobs and is a joy to use.

Excellent purchase

Ordered and purchased very easily and arrived ahead of schedule. Great chainsaw. Already have the smaller model, but this was purchased to cut bigger logs, which it does effortlessly.

Excellent saw.

First impressions are very good. Just as fast cutting as my husqvarna 137 bit without the noise and faff of petrol mixing. Just cut up a load of logs in the garden after my baby went to bed without waking him or annoying neighbours. That would not happen with the petrol one. With the 2.5Ah battery the weight is the same. With the 7.5Ah it is 1.7kg heavier. I have used a makita cordless saw and this is far more powerful. But is heavier and more expensive. 4 stars because it is expensive and a bit heavy with a good size battery.

Glad I bought it

Bought this yesterday, used it today, would still have bought it ! Pleased I waited for 18”, wouldn’t have wanted any lesser power.MUCH quieter than my petrol still MS260, but not as powerful.Only got 2 dozen cuts in 6’-12” logs from a freshly charged new 2.5 amp, now fitted 4 amp BUT while oil outlasted the 2.5, it was down to 1/4 full; a bleeper warning to check oil window handy for larger batteries/more cuts. High chain oil consumption could cancel out any saving on petrol ‘though. Uses MUCH more than my Stihl.Good value for those (like me) who already have rapid charger and batteries for mower. Would be rather expensive buying new batteries and charger.

Great Performance. 5Ah Battery Runtime Very Short

The chainsaw arrived in mid February. I bought it with the superfast charger and one 5Ah battery. I'm a domestic user with a large garden and variety of sizes of trees to cut back each year. I previously had a Greenworks 40V battery model which gave 6 good years of service but was developing problems. I read lots of good reviews about the Ego so i thought i would make a change.Health warning on any review of a new purchase: it's early days yet and this saw will need to give me 6 good years use to be considered good value for money.The saw feels good in hand with the battery in. The safety switch is reassuringly solid. The chain tensioner feels solid and seems to be designed to prevent overtightening. The saw cuts really smoothly. The self oiling of the chain seemed to work well.The battery lasted for precisely 20 minutes of almost continuous cutting - this struck me as really poor, however, when i turned around i realise i'd produced 3-4 barrows full of 12" long rounds which would have taken 30-40 mins and 2 x 4Ah battery charges with my previous battery saw.I've used it for 3 full charges of the 5Ah battery. Very impressed with the fast charger which fully recharged the battery in 40 mins. Also, when putting the 'hot' battery on the charger, it only took a few minutes to cool down for the recharge to take place.Overall this seems like a very good saw but very expensive upfront and short battery runtime.

Impressed byond expectations

Astonished at its abilities.Managed to cut up the trunk of a beech tree that was a good 4 1/2 feet wide and 5 feet tall. This took several charges of course but these were a series of 18" slices and the saw did it all without complaining.Realistically I should have hired a big petrol saw for the day but this was a test of my new 'toy: and it passed with flying colours.Also, and more realistically, it is ideal for jobs that involve sawing as part of the overall process such as fencing, trimming branches etc.I was sold on Ego products before but now am totally impressed.

Much better than I expected for an electric. Already have a Husky 450II petrol but fed up of messing about mixing/servicing etc and my neighbour complaining!This is quick, quiet and easy to use. By the time the battery is due for recharging, I've got a full load of wood which I then split whilst the battery charges. Within an hour, I can start cutting again.The only criticism is that the battery doesnt do anything close to the stated 450 cuts for 7.5Ah, more like 200, so either they were testing it on 1" diameter pieces, or the battery is not as good as claimed.However, for me it as a domestic user cutting between 8-16" diameter lengths @ approx 2m of soft pine, it does the job fine. So far, I've cut around 10³m of firewood.Time will tell on its durability ... MoreMuch better than I expected for an electric. Yes! I have bought another EGO.

I have an Ego tool collection of a mower, a 14" chainsaw, a strimmer, a hedge trimmer and 4 batteries. I will be buying more as this 18" chainsaw is every bit as good as is quoted and with my 7.5 ampere battery cut up a fallen birch and a fallen beech on my boundary with trunks of >200mm and 10+ M in height with energy left over. I do rate Ego equipment!!
