"Great for splitting wood, fits great on belt, and is perfect sharpness for doing around the yard stuff. The 14 in size makes it great for splitting wood. I really like that has a nice curved handle so it can be maneuvered through the wood easily. The weight is heavy enough where it doesn't make it too hard to swing and chop the wood. I have used for kindling and made some play swords out of branches."All this per my 10 year old son. He worked hard to earn the money to by this. He looked up hatchets and their reviews. This was the one for him. I love seeing him walk around the yard with it on his hip. So far no neighbors trees felled without permission-crossing my fingers.

I had one of these and abused it terribly for about 20-25 years, and the only reason I bought another one was that my son lost it on a camping trip. Great hatchet, the steel takes a little effort to sharpen and I can't get it really ultra-sharp, but it holds the edge a long time, and those are the perfect steel qualities for a hatchet. Recommend giving it a wipe with 3-in-1 oil or WD40 for storage after use, because this kind of steel is also very rust prone. Handle is more durable than it looks. I bashed mine with a hammer far too many times after I got it stuck, and the handle never loosened up or anything. It's a really superior product to most of the others for what, an extra 5 or 10 bucks. Hope the new one is just as good.

So the goo stuff left behind after removing the stickers is on there forever, FOREVER. Even by summoning the power of Gray Skull it will not come off and everything sticks to the goo residue. I even tried Goo Gone and scraped it with a credit card to no avail. Only the fires of Mordor could remove this demon spawn goo. Had they used this sticker glue on the Morandi Bridge in Italy it would have never fallen down... The hatchet is great otherwise...

Hatchet has nice size, heft, materials and general overall quality. The handle is very nice "out of the box" and i have no reason to believe anything about this hatchet won't hold up over time. There were 4 on the shelf when i picked this one out and i will say there was some variation in the edge quality and handle finish but luckily for me i could compare and pick the one that was best - none of them were what i would call unacceptable. i did spend a few minutes touching up the edge with a wet stone when i got it home.Regarding the sheath: you have to slide the hatchet up and out (the length of the handle has to be fed up through the sheath). i don't like: 1. that the length of the bit edge slides across the coarse sheath material when doing this; 2. that you ... MoreHatchet has nice size, heft, materials and general overall quality. The sheath has been replaced with a nice leather one of the design where sheath simply slides over the bit edge and a strap then goes around the handle to hold it on place - better protects the edge and quicker and easier to use.
I bought this thinking it would find a home around the fire pit making kindling and tinder for the Solo Stove Bonfire. I discovered over a few fires that dry sticks and twigs caught fire much more easily than oak firewood split down to small dimensions. The oak is so dense, that even though dry, it takes insane amounts of heat to ignite it.But the hatchet has been very very handy in limbing underbrush when bundling it for the trash. Very glad I have it. Much faster than using pruning shears.
Start with a solid chunk of 100% American steel and add a true, functional design...Forge it, temper it, balance and polish the curves clean and smooth...Complete with a matching, natural leather, banded, ergonomic, handle grip...andfinish the craftmanship by sharpening the blade by hand...Kindling, logs, tent spikes and everything, in between; this axe will perform andoutlast them all and shows you live life on your terms...Estwing quality is professionally renown and a excellent choice for your legacy...
I was really excited to throw one of these into my shopping cart as they are American made and currently out of stock everywhere locally. However, upon arrival, I had noticed that there was a couple small knicks in the blade, one being very noticeable. I wasn’t too discouraged, figured I would just take it to a sharpening puck and take care of it myself, until I noticed a hairline crack running through both sides on the head of the axe! I believe the small knicks are caused from the metal grommets in the sheath it comes with as the blade of the hatchet physically rests against it when sheathed. Pretty disappointed in this product.
This is it!!! This little hatchet can be found in any garage, tool box, camping gear, survival kit in the world. This axe has not been changed since I was a kid. I am 59 years old. I bought my son his years ago and my daughter hers last week. Both hunt, fish and camp. The leather bound handle just fits right in your hand. Not very large in diameter but comfortable and yet strong. Estwing is made in the USA!!! Estwing has not changed the design of their leather bound handle because if it ain't broke don't fix it and the best part is your not going to break this ever. Buy it, use the crap out of it and let the grandkids inherit it.
This axe is well worth the $35 it costs and it will stand the test of time. I’ve had this hatchet for over 10 years and it still works like new. The full metal fram is durable and the leather wrapped handle is just beautiful! This is something you can pass down to your grand kids if it’s well taken care of and is truly timeless. My only complaint is that they now come with a nylon sheath rather than the leather one. And props to Lowe’s for always keeping them in stock!
Wow! A great Estwing hatchet!., 13.5 inch! Stays sharp, easy to sharpen! A great product, last hatchet lasted over 30 years., Really nicely designed too! cool!
