Fantastic quality. One piece of fine steel with an excellent handle that is solid and comfortable to use. Great for general use around the home or for trim carpentry where a heavy hammer is not necessary. "Made in America", sealed the deal. You cannot go wrong with an Estwing.

Bought to replace identical one I lost on site. Have owned the one I lost on site for several years. Considered buying a cheaper brand but I’d not be happy with it. Screwfix price cheap as I could find and in stock what’s not to like

This is the best framing hammer on the market in my opinion. I used the 28 oz smooth face for two years building roof trusses and the vibration control is excellent. Held up to setting a LOT of jigs by setting nails and truss plates. Dropped on concrete, thrown across assembly tables and it held up. I had the 22 oz a couple years before I bought the 28 when I built trusses at another manufacturer for a year and it was great quality as well, the 28 oz just makes any framing or carpentry work easier with the added weight.

Bought this to replace a leather handled 16oz Estwing (which always seem to fail at the plastic inserts at the top of the grip). Thought I'd go for the blue rubber handled type this time. Already have a 20oz version of this, but find it a bit heavy for general use. The 16 oz is just right, very well balanced and a joy to use. The claw works really well and will pick up nail heads that are really close to the timber. In my opinion you can't beat a traditional style Estwing claw hammer for quality. They're extremely well made and will deliver years of good service. Got this one at a keen price, so very pleased. A great buy.
Estwing, the king of hammers. Estwing when the world is full of nails and all you need is a hammer. Dare I say it... its the hammer amongst hammers. When your work is too legit to quit and its hamnertime. Seriously it's a good durable hammer commercial grade. Good weight not too heavy, ideal for framing. With a good strike not too much vibration when going into hard woods great for forearm ware.
I bought this for someone else as a gift but I did so because I have owned my own Estwing hammer for over 12 years now and think the design and appearance it at the top. I like the old design a little more, but it's close enough. So it's a single piece of high grade steel with an aerodynamic neck that leads into a full tang housed in a blue shock absorbent rubber-like plastic handle, you really can't go wrong this hammer. This hammer is called smooth face and it has some kind of clear coating all over the steel but I don't know what it is made out of. My hammer is a milled face and will slowly rust over time so the smooth face looks nice to own.
I have used Estwing hammers for 30 years now. They are always well made and virtually indestructible and made for the task at hand. I bought this size for hand driving 16p & 8p galv nails while reroofing homes. It replaces a 20 oz regular size hammer that has worked well but it seemed I was having to swing very hard to drive the 16p nails. The new 22 oz hammer is a little heavier & longer to put a little more oomph into each swing. The claws are well ground for pulling nails if needed. It is well worth the price!
I love it! I never had an American made hammer. This one made in Illinois is incredible! It's weight 22 ounces gets the nails in STAT!! Why buy a foreign made hammer? This one is forged out of one block of steel! I don't think anyone or anything could damage it! Unless you tossed it back into the vatt of moulton steel at the foundry!
The straight claw is more versatile. You could frame with the straight claw or do finish work. But if the curved claw is your jam then this is the hammer they will bury you with (because it's a lifetime tool). Don't mess up, buy a real hammer.
Bought the 28 oz hammer for its weight to drive nails into 70 year old oak framing. Been using a 20 oz fiberglass handle Vaughan hammer for 30 years on general construction and fencing but needed a little more weight and the Eswing was the only option. While it drives nails into the old oak it rings with a high pitch resonance as it passes your ear. Most annoying but fortunately I do not need to use it that often. Also the checkered face is too aggressive and needed to be sanded down a little just like the Vaughan. Even after sanding it you can still drive crooked nails.
