Dissapointed at this version.Clean channel is nice but not enough headroom.I felt amp was to tight sounding and middy.Nice features but what appears to be versatile is really just too much dirt.I returned mine 3 days after i bought it.Couldnt come close to previous 3 versions. At $899 it sounds like a good deal but many other amps in that price range sound much better. If you want over the top distortion its cool but very nasally sounding..

This thing has great feel and tone. Love the added reverb and the Clean channel is very dry. You can also make channel one a dirty channel as well by pushing a button. This thing has. a Burn button feels like a Drive pedal also had a noise gate and the !/4 power switch taking it down to 20 watts is tight. And yes I have a 5150IIIs as well and this amp has a different flavor but still rocks!!!

This is an 80s metal machine! Can it chug for high gain metal? Sure., but its not meant to! It achieves the brown sound on the overdrive channel but the real magic is on the green channel ., click the overdrive on there and you are instantly in Poison , Ratt ,Whitesnake , Skid Row land and its wonderful. Easy to dial in and the noise gate works great . The reverb is also phenomenal on here. This amp is a winner!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? This amp is fantastic! A variety of metal tones, hard rock tones, rock tones and even broken-up cleans for blues. The cleans are surprisingly good too, but I didn't buy this for the cleans :) Seriously an all-around solid amp and it's actually kind of affordable, imagine that!
Overall:Really pleased with the tones/feel this amp puts out. I'm playing blues, rock and hard rock. I don't play heavy modern and there are plenty of vids of it chugging. There was one clip I watched that showed it covering sonic ground that I liked. I bought it based on what I heard. My ears were not wrong. Dynamics of rolling off guitar volume/tone knobs is rewarding. Amp has a set of ballz. I've had an EVH 412 cab for years now. The Iconic sounds excellent through it.The Green OD channel is my fave.Only con I have is the noise gate. It has minimal gateing. Don't use reverb but it's ok.
Great way to get the 5150/6505 style on a budget. Amp tones are usable as is but, I really love hitting the front end with a BOSS SD1 as a boost. Adding 10 band eq into effects loop shapes the tone even more. Sounds great through Celestion V30 and GT75 2x12. 1/4 power switch helps for home volume levels, but I still use a reactive load attenuator.
James Brown being the designer for this amplifier took away any concerns on how it would perform. I've had mine for about a week and it's fantastic. The only thing I don't love is the clean channel. Not bad, but nothing special. Little flat sounding. Could be me even just needing to dial it in a little better. Everything else on it is fantastic! I love all the extra features; noise gate, 1/4 power setting, speaker emulator etc. It's just a great sounding amplifier for the price tag. Get one!
Really good amp for the money, if it was a grand I wouldn’t question it. Clean channel is extremely good far better than I was expecting it and will be useable for a wide range of applications.Gain channel is great but you don’t quite have the heavy chug of more expensive high gain amps. That said in a mix or live you’ll hardly tell the difference as the lower end is EQ’d out anyway and the bass is there. You’ll need an overdrive and extra noise gate however to get the best out of it, tighten it up and silence it better.Van Halen and the original 5150 designed James Brown really nailed bringing an affordable high gain head to market here, it’s not a cheap budget amp, it does everything you need… amazing value really.
Dude !! This thing is extremely loud. I play through a 100 watt Marshall TSL100 and this 80 watt head blows it away as far as power goes..I couldn't get it past 4 without it hurting my ears seriously. I returned it because of that reason. It is a very large head too..pretty good sound though and easy to use. You want loud...get this head if not get the combo but you better have a good back !
WAY TOO LOUD for home use..this amp just screams loudness. You will not sound like Eddie using this amp. it is very big and did I say LOUD !? at full power I couldn't get it past 4 playing through my Marshall with VIN30s - 4x12 cabinet. for the money a good LOUD amp a bit sterile sounding playing clean..It went back though so you can decide yourself...oh it has tons of GAIN too...TONS !! almost too much really
