Looking to replace shears that served me well for 20 years . Old school wooden handles and solid steel blades , they were ideal for trimming hedges and bushes and live branches up to about 5 mm thickness . Pretty standard stuff , any branches bigger than that and I would use a lopper instead . I spent the extra and bought these telescopic Fiskars shears . First impressions were that the design is great. Very comfortable and very well made , the telescopic handles engage and release well . But I was pretty dismayed to find that the blades deformed and became jagged during first use . Was trimming and cutting hedges that fell inside the Manufacturers recommendations so it was pretty a disappointing result . I'm going to hang on to them and sharpen them myself , as all ... MoreLooking to replace shears that served me well for 20 years . But they still 'aint like they used to make 'em .

The ratchet devices on both handles stop the handles slipping to a shorter or longer length when you are trying to trim a hedge on top of step-ladders. Previous shears had a twist device to 'lock' the handles in place but it often failed in an annoying way. You can't concentrate on shaping a shrub or a hedge when your shears keep changing length! The blades are sharp but it's still wise to carry secateurs in your pocket for cutting woody or dead stems which are too thick for shears. The bolt at the crossing of the blades needs tightening now and then but that's not a problem.

I purchased these shears three or four weeks ago now and I am very pleased with them, very robust, well made, a pleasure to use and if they are anything like my Fiskars secateurs then they will remain sharp for a long time! The telescopic handles are very useful indeed, when they are fully extended I don't find them too long. Fiskars are a great brand, one of the best, I have been using their equipment for the past year and have received many positive remarks about them from those who are aware of the company's reputation. I would definitely recommend these shears!
Super-sharp and very good quality (and price!). Am gradually replacing all my old (inherited!) tools with Fiskars, as am finding them exceptionally good value and quality. They are also very easy to use, whatever strength you have in your arms (not much in mine!). Teenage sons all keen to help in garden now, as these are super sharp and make pruning the laurel hedge a doddle!
I am a big fan of Fiskars products and these are no exception. I needed some shears that were telescopic but ones that click into place than having to twist in place as my hands are not strong. Twist lengthening handles tend to stick or wear over time. I have some telescopic loppers which have the same extending mechanism and have lasted for years. The blades are very sharp and the shears themselves are not too heavy for me. Very pleased with my purchase.
Razor sharp blades. Extendable handles. Very happy with the product. Cuts grass superbly well. What else can I say to make up the twenty five word minimum.
These are excellent quality and very handy. Being able to adjust the length of the handles makes these really handy when shaping larger shrubs and hedges. The blades are really sharp and made of quality steel. Highly recommend.
I like Fiskars products. More expensive, but much better quality. Gotta be careful not to ask too much. If you try to cut really woody plants more than say, 5mm in diameter you can deform the edge. I then had to file back the edges just to get the shears to close. Still I like this product.
The extendable handles allow you to reach greater distances safely. Very sharp blades, easy to use. Excellent product. I would also like to thank Angi at Your Christchurch branch who was extremely helpful in buying these.
