Great design and handle material

This axe is great for splitting and I anticipate great longevity. I thought my previous axe was excellent but it was hard to remove when stuck. I was surprised when the head broke off the fiberglass handle when trying to free it from a log. Based on the design of the Friskar and the material used in the handle I do not anticipate the same problem. I don't believe it is possible for the two to separate. That potentially solves the problem that is of greatest concern to me in buying and using an axe. I also like the length and shape of the handle. It was not cheap but it was worth it.

I don't think I'll need another axe.

Just an outstanding axe. Replaced when our wooden handle on maul finally fractured. The fact this has a lifetime guarantee is outstanding. It is so much more comfortable to swing, being lighter weight, with a handle that has a nice hold at the end of it (more pronounced curve than on our older maul handle) to prevent accidental slippage. Very effective splitting wedge angle, with a head which is smaller than the wedge to avoid any jamming. Wood just seemed to pop apart when splitting at cold temps. Overall so happy with this axe.

I like this axe. This is a good axe.

As I said in the title, this is a good axe. I got it for free, using Canadian Tire points. BEST use of Canadian Tire points I've found yet.The axe itself feels sturdy and well built. The head seems to be of great quality. I've used it pretty extensively for a few days and the edge is still nice and sharp, with no nicks or gouges (mind you, I've been careful to not hit anything that would knick or gouge the edge).I wasn't initially too sure about the straight handle, but have found that it is perfectly suitable for the axe.The manufacturer claims that the handle is shock-absorbing/reducing - I can't say I've compared it side-by-side with another axe, but I did accidentally miss a stroke and hit the log solidly with the handle. It works, it works well, and I have little doubt it will last a lifetime of use for me.

One Hit Wonder!

This axe is axellent! Took me awhile to get used to the longer handle, but it’s a sweet addition to my wood chopping game. Out of the box shaving sharp, held its edge over a few days of splitting 10 cords of wood. Easily splits most rounds in a single swing. I highly recommend this axe to keep you looking good while chopping wood!

Poorly designed!

I own multiple axes and was ready to test out a new style. To start I only use wood to heat my 2000 sq. foot house so I split alot of wood! Bought this axe and used once before exploded apart!? Not sure if there was a defect or just a bad design? The axe head came dislodged and sheared the side plastic of the axe head off! It shot the broken piece of plastic 15' and hit my wife in the leg. Luckily not an exposed part of skin! Very sharp piece of plastic! Never seen anything like this type of failure in an axe. But this is also a weird design. The only thing holding this axe head is about an 1/8" thick piece of plastic wrapped around the head. If they hold up their end of warranty I would try again to make sure not a fluke. But at this time I would not recommend ... MoreI own multiple axes and was ready to test out a new style. To start I only use wood to heat my 2000 sq. foot house so I split alot of wood! Really enjoying working with this axe
20 December 2022

This is a comfortable, ergonomic tool and so far has made fast work of splitting one and a half cords of Douglas fir. I've been able to split rounds close to three feet in diameter with just the axe, though of course it took a dozen hits to crack some of the knottier ones in half. The axe is still sharp and going strong, although there is a small chip at the corner of the blade. The handle is light but solid and has no problem handling torque when prying knotted splits apart.

I own a 27 ton hydraulic vertical log splitter. I have used a regular axe, a 4.5lb splitting axe, and an 8 lb maul. The gas log splitter is good for obvious reasons, but there are times when it isn't necessary to lug it out of the garage. For those times, there is the Fiskars 36" 6.3lb super splitting axe you see here. I was able to buck (455 husqvarna chainsaw) and split half a cord of wood in a half hour, with superlative ease using this splitting axe. Once you get used to the nice long handle, being 6'1" tall I need this length. What ever your height is however, this axe provides the key component to successful splits every time. Leverage. Get yourself lined up, use one log as a base, sit your wood-to-be-split on top of this, and land your sharp axe blade towards the outside edge. Doing so, I was able to split (green) red oak, osage orange, and black walnut like it was dry. No fuss, just 1 swing, 1 full split. The weight of this axe is what I would call ideal. It's not cumbersome like your 8lb maul is, and it's got enough weight to practically drop it on seasoned rounds and split them without even trying. The 4.5l splitting axe I used first, was great too. But when it came to more green wood, it struggled and gave some fuss when trying to cut twisty grain cherry, and white oak. The 6.3lb super splitting axe doesn't take no for an answer. You will not believe how efficient, and productive you can be with this simple manual hand tool. By the way, the handle is hollow.. so it eats up the vibrations and doesn't give you much feedback or fatigue. I missed a couple times on really hard swings. The handle showed no signs of distress, or damage on miss-strikes where the handle took the brunt of the impact by accident. This will happen from time to time, a wooden axe will break after just a few of those hits. So will a solid fiberglass handle. This hollow composite handle is just what the Dr. ordered. I gave this item 5 stars. You simply can't get a more useful tool of this quality for the money. You will wonder how you ever split wood before owning this.

Where have you been all my wood chopping life
23 September 2023

I have used many other basic axes throughout my life and have been satsified with my ability to use them and their own performance. After using this new axe I realize I've been missing better results all along. This axe really does make a wood splitting difference. The balance and weight are good. That combined with the shape of the head really make a difference in the split abilities this has compared to basic models I've used previously. Even chopping hard wood this has a noticeable difference. Super happy and satisfied with this axe and only regret is I wish someone had let me know about this one years ago.

Occasionally you find a product that is so much better than others that do the same job. This axe is one of those. I have a large maul that I thought would work at splitting 16" logs of ash that I had sectioned up from a feshly fallen tree. The maul, although very sharp, literally bounced off the log and did absolutely nothing. I discovered this Fiskars splitting axe on sale at Canadian Tire and the reviews were all 5-star, but was still skeptical it would be able to split my 16"ask logs. You only live once so I bought it and and started splitting. The first wack would leave a crack down the middle but the second split the logs effortlessly. All subsequent splits on remaining halves and quarters were one-wack effortless swings. It was so wonderful to use it even attracted my 6'-4" son off his video game to get into the swing and we chopped up a half cord of wood in a couple of hours. I also have the Yardworks electric log splitter, which does the job perfectly as well, but there's something more satisfying about using this axe instead, with no electric motor noises filling the air, and a bit of physical exercise to boot. If you need a log splitting axe, read all the reviews, they don't lie.

If you are a woodsman that has been perfectly happy with your current splitter, then be prepared for a big regret. The Fiskars 36" splitter will make you wish that you had bought it many years earlier. I am splitting wood more efficiently now, as a man in his 50's, than I could have done 30 years ago. I have split 5-7 cord of lodgepole, jack pine, ponderosa and douglas for the last 21 years by hand, but I have never done it so easily as I have done this winter ... all thanks to my beloved new Fiskars 36" splitting axe!At first, when watching reviews, I wanted the newer model with the rubberised grip, as I don't usually wear gloves, but the non-rubberised model that Canadian Tire sells has more than enough grip.
