Fujifilm 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 XF R LM OIS Lens
At 55mm, sharpness in the centre of the frame at maximum aperture is already outstanding, with the clarity towards the edges falling just short of excellent. Stopping down to between f/4 and f/8 raises sharpness towards the edges to excellent levels, whilst maintaining outstanding clarity in the centre of the frame. Zooming to 100mm results in an overall reduction in sharpness across the frame. Still, sharpness is very good in the centre of the frame at maximum aperture and good towards the edges of the frame. Peak sharpness is achieved with the aperture stopped down to f/8 for this focal length. Here clarity is excellent across the frame. Finally, at 200mm there is a further, slight reduction in clarity. At maximum aperture, sharpness approaches very good in the centre of the frame and is good towards the edges of the frame. Peak sharpness is again achieved at f/8. Here clarity in the centre falls just short of excellent and is very good towards the edges of the frame.

I bought this as a lighter, more compact alternative to the 50-140 f/2.8 lens, which is an excellent lens but weighs almost twice as much and is about 2 longer, which prevents carrying it in smaller camera bags for mirrorless cameras. This lens accomplishes these objectives it is smaller, lighter, and perfectly usable in most travel situations where variable ISO can compensate for the slower aperture. My only disappointment with this lens is the zoom creep. It is big enough that it will normally be pointed down in the carry position, and the lens extends quite rapidly by itself when carried this way. Manual zoom is not as smooth as the pro lenses like the 50-140, but is typical of others such as the 10-24, which is also a very good lens. Image quality seems very good to excellent depending on focal length, but I am still getting field experience with it. I don't expect this opinion to change. Overall, I am pleased with it as a compact lens that I will be inclined to carry more often. I only wish I could find a solution to the zoom creep problem. Maybe the old rubber band trick.

This lens is sharp, lightweight, well-built and capable of beautiful images. The image stabilisation is great and the lens can be handheld more often than not, especially in good light for stationary subjects. It focuses well when using the Fujifilm X-T200 body but take care when placing it on a flat surface because the lens will contact the surface instead of the camera body. This shouldn't be an issue on bigger cameras. You may notice some zoom creep when carrying the lens pointing straight down but it's not significant. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I was familiar with this lens before I purchased it and it has not disappointed. It has excellent build quality and its optics seem well above average. It's an excellent walking-zoom not too large and comfortable to hold and operate. I tried to like this lens as it is the longest lens I could afford for my X-H1. However, whenever I used it, I felt the results were very kitlike. I sold it at a loss, but I never looked back. I own many of the other Fuji lenses and they all feel like such great quality, the 55-200mm was no exception! It was wonderful to hold and use. OIS was great. I just didn't like the results. Very flat and uninteresting.
The reviews for this lens here on eBay are a little misleading. The XF 55-200 really ISN'T a fantastic lens. It's 'reasonable' in every way. It's a reasonable weight, reasonable size, reasonably fast, reasonably durable (although rather susceptible to dust) and creates reasonable results. In the mid range (both in terms of aperture and zoom) the results are pretty good, but at the extremes it doesn't perform particularly well. It doesn't perform badly, but it's certainly not excellent. But ... this is an inexpensive lens - especially if you get a used copy - and if you can find one for 250-300 (which seems to be a 'fair' used price) then it IS worth the money. It's definitely an amateur lens, and professionals will not be happy with the results, but for a serious ... MoreThe reviews for this lens here on eBay are a little misleading. When I think I can use my "kit lens" for *gestures vaguely at everyhing* I am made aware that it's going to be underwhelming compared to a specialized lens like this one. I use it for portraits and it's been amazing. Only thing better would be a prime lens, but I wasn't getting paid for these photos (sorry fam! you get what you pay for!). LensRentals are phenomenal, they go the extra mile in service-- from ensuring the item arrives very protected, to the ease of return. A million thank yous!
Every lens design choice reflects a compromise between features, qualities and costs. Fuji made smart compromises - which may not comport with everyone's needs or preferences. In this lens, image quality is wonderful and the OIS is excellent. These largely make up for (i) middling focus speed, (ii) weight (not outrageous, but frustrating the weight loss goal of a mirrorless kit) and (iii) f3.5 max aperture. But, however achieved (optically or electronically), the freedom from distortion is the most distinguishing feature; see photo. The rectilinearity of this lens (and the 10-24mm) are remarkable and immediately apparent even if unconsciously so, and complement my preferred style of imaging. The rectilinearity of this lens (and the 10-24mm) are remarkable and immediately apparent even if unconsciously so, and complement my preferred style of imaging. The OIS and Auto Aperture switches are subject to accidental change while changing lenses, and might well be a bit stiffer - but this does not detract from the overall quality of the lens. I will rarely use manual focus so a bit of tape over the switch could fix that for me. As noted by many, zooming is stiff, the functional opposite of my Canon 70-200 f4L. This yields no slippage, but delay in targeting your subject. Most importantly, this lens is capable of using all of the resolution of the 24 megapixel sensors.
The XF 55-200mm is what I consider a medium zoom. It's great for bringing subjects within normal shooting range closer. After a couple of shoots -- an extended one at noon today -- on my X-T2, I find that capturing quickly moving subjects is difficult. Still, roughly 95% of my shots today are usable. This lens doesn't produce the kind of razor-sharp images that I get from the 56mm f/1.2, but that's a prime and zooms can't compete. The IQ is what I'd expect from and X-series zoom. It's small enough when not at full zoom to serve as a travel camera for anyone who doesn't mind the weight. It's not overly heavy, but after an hour of shooting, I began to feel the weight in my wrist. It's not overly heavy, but after an hour of shooting, I began to feel the weight in my wrist. It has enough reach to capture subjects that are relatively distant, and at the shorter focal lengths it can handle pretty much anything on the street. The reach saves post-production time by limiting the amount of cropping that a shorter focal length might require. I'm awarding it 5 stars because it performs as advertised. I'm primarily a still shooter and have only lightly tested its video capabilities. The variable aperture in the zoom range may be a limiting factor, but I'm guessing that one could work around it. Like the other X-series lenses in my small collection, I like the look and feel of this lens -- solid precision.
I have made the jump from Canon to Fuj, to the point I have given a chunk of my gear to my daughter headed to college next year (still in distance to borrow as backup!) I set up a family photoshoot with some friends to try out the camera complete with a wild 3 year old and apathetic 13 year old. It worked quite well and was easy to change between f stops and shutter speed as well as lenses. I love the ability to move the focus point with the joystick without removing my eye from the eyepiece. I was taught on my dad's Olympus and Pentex film SLR's and the operation came right back. I use the eyepiece 80% of the time and love the ability to see playback without putting the camera down. I love the compact style, the lighter weight lenses, and the quiet motor. I mainly shoot indoor sporting events, nature photography while backpacking and photojournalistic life events such a portraits, weddings and concerts. I was a bit concerned with the battery time so I ordered 3 extra right off the bat. At some point I may get the battery grip, but honestly, have no problem keeping up with switching batteries to avoid bulk and weight. I really am pleased although I've had it out just one day. Any difficulties have been user error. I am sure there will be some negatives at a point, but this fits my needs nicely. Just short of 5 stars for price, but glad I switched.
Haven't had this lens for more than about a month, but here are some initial thoughts. It's quite sharp, which is well-served by the OIS. The adjustment rings work nicely, though the focus ring is a bit narrow. Design considerations probably necessitate this. The fact that the aperture ring hasn't visible numbers on it has been no problem at all. My main complaint is that the telescoping portion of the lens always drifts down, but this, as my above quibble, has no impact on the very fine quality of the lens itself. Terrific purchase at the current discounted price, which I've heard is due to a new model that's supposed to come out in the near (?) future. Don't have any idea of the new price.
