This is my newest lens for the GFX system, and I've only had it out a few times now, but I have been very impressed. The size and weight are great for a telephoto zoom on a medium format system. I actually really like the range, and if I can't get quite close enough, well that's where the 102 megapixels of the GFX 100s come in to play! I'm sure it would be excellent on the 50 models as well. In my limited experience with the lens I have found the photos I've taken to be very sharp with excellent colors and contrast. The build quality is also excellent and the OIS works very well. If I dropped this lens off a cliff, I would not hesitate to buy another.

It's taken a little time for me to use this lens enough to feel comfortable writing a review on it because it's not a focal length range that I really need all that often in my shooting. But the few times I've used it now, I've been REALLY blown away by the quality and clarity!Recently we had a really clean night with a full moon and I took it out to see if I could capture anything all that usable and, WOW! I was REALLY blown away with what I got when I looked at the images in Lightroom! You can see details in the moon that I didn't even know was there and could NEVER see with the naked eye! No idea if this is a good astro lens or now, but it worked with the moon and now I want to take it out and try! Great lens!

When I first saw this lens mentioned, I was fairly disappointed due to its widest aperture being only 5.6. However, after receiving this lens I totally understood why and realized what Fuji was striving for. Just to be concise, this lens is amazingly sharp, very light, has awesome image stabilization, and a perfect all-around lens. I am betting that Fuji saw that they had already produced the perfect 250mm lens and realized that they did not need to duplicate a mixture of the 110-120mm lenses and instead went after an awesome all around lens that can be carried pretty easily. It is extremely nice to have this and allows one to take very nice hand held shots at shutter speeds actually quite slow. When testing it out, I found that I could get extremely sharp shots at speeds as slow as a tenth of a second.I really do not have any complaints about this lens at all. The only thing that I wish they would have done differently is have made the lens foot have an Arca-swiss type plate so one would not have to attach one but that is actually quite minor. I very highly recommend this lens!

I purchased the lens and did my standard test and found an issue with the left side (I performed the test three times to make sure of what I was seeing) and decided that I was not happy with how the lens was performing. I returned the lens and purchased a second and did the same tests. With the second copy, at f5.6 the lens proved to be consistent optically across the frame at all focal lengths. When stopped down to f8 and f11 the sharpness improved across the entire zoom range. The second copy was perfect. I am pleased.

Optically, it is a good lens. However, the whole front elements including the rotating manual focus ring and, the seal will fell off along with the lens hood. If you're not in a flat ground, you may not be able to catch the falling Lens hood along with all the pieces in front of lens. It's because the whole front elements are made out of plastic and they are just snapped together. So, it dislodges easily. I encountered this problem numerous times but was able to snap them back then used gaffers tape to keep them together...However, this problem is not unique to me and I saw another photographer was having same problems.I'm a B&H customer and bought many cameras and lenses over the past 2 decades. I give a 5 because everything was well done. The rental process through the website, the delivery by FedEx, on time, and at the agreed location. The lens was in great shape, well protected inside the case, and it worked as expected. I rented to try the lens for a potential purchase, but I found certain issues with the lens that I didn’t like. I will not be buying the lens, but that has nothing to do with Lensrentals. The return of the lens went smoothly. I will be using Lensrentals again when the need arises .
Love, love, love this lens. I wanted a lens to photograph wildlife as well as landscapes and this is perfect for both (it won't get you as close to animals as the more powerful zooms from the x-series but for me the extra resolution compensates well enough). The lens is quite light, super sharp, the barrel does not extend and it's a fixed aperture lens (with a dedicated ring). These are the things that matter most to me and this lens has them all.

That to me seems just plain dumb on a system that hopes to attract pro shooters.
Upfront disclosure - I rented this lens to determine whether or not it fit my needs. It remains in my wish list - but I am on the fence about purchasing it as I think it is really a 3.5 star lens that is extremely limited.First thing to say - from an appearance perspective this is an f/4.4 equivalent lens in full frame terms which means if you are after creamy bokeh it isn't there unless you are very purposeful in setting up the shot to get it and accepting the limitations that come with needing to do so. 5.6 is 5.6 regardless of camera format in terms of the amount of light the lens lets through and as such it is not well suited for low light at all. It remains in my wish list - but I am on the fence about purchasing it as I think it is really a 3.5 star lens that is extremely limited.First thing to say - from an appearance perspective this is an f/4.4 equivalent lens in full frame terms which means if you are after creamy bokeh it isn't there unless you are very purposeful in setting up the shot to get it and accepting the limitations that come with needing to do so. 5.6 is 5.6 regardless of camera format in terms of the amount of light the lens lets through and as such it is not well suited for low light at all. Forget about it. Any thoughts of being able to use this at night, dusk or dawn without extended shutter speeds or high ISOs are pipe dreams. I do shoot outdoors at these times and end up reaching for my 110mm f/2. Part of the point of zooms is to facilitate mild compromises in the interest of carrying fewer lenses. This is not a mild compromise - it is a huge compromise and a big fail.The focal range on this lens is also very limited. At a peak of 158mm in full frame terms it misses a good chunk of the 150-200mm sweet spot needed for landscape and outdoor portrait photography. I find myself wishing for the extra focal length on a regular basis to prevent the need to crop on my GFX (I print very large pics in wide format - so I need every MP I can get). My wallet aches thinking about the $2800 discounted price of the 250mm and even buying that would leave a large gap in the prime focal range.This is a modern Fuji GF lens and that does mean it is high quality, very sharp and very tough. No complaints about image quality at all. I was very pleased with the shots I got. There is also some merit to the lens for certain types of photos. If you only need up to 158mm then certain landscape shots are very doable. I shoot those around f/11-16 most of the time anyway. In broad daylight or in the studio with proper lighting I am shooting portraits from f8-11 so the f/5.6 isn't a tradeoff in those situations. Though in fairness I suspect I would still reach for my 110mm as it may be the best lens I have ever used.Net-net is that this lens suffers from some of the same flaws that made some of us use our old medium format film cameras for very limited things while adopting 35mm cameras for the bulk of our work many years ago. Limited focal range and an inability to gather enough light in many circumstances is frustrating for those of us who have a huge investment in this system.
