I purchased this lens for wildlife photography and have been delighted with its performance. I use it with a Fuji X-H2s which together make a great combination. The lens is quite big for some of Fuji cameras so will really benefit a battery grip to balance and make handling easier. The only fault I would mention is that the tripod foot which although is a beautifully made part of the lens, unfortunately causes a balancing problem when using on a gimbal. This is due to the Arca Swiss machining of the foot not extending through the length of the foot, which means you have to use an additional Arca Swiss mounting plate to balance the camera and battery grip. So far I've only shot locally with the 150-600 lens, for two days, and not with my full tripod rig; only with the excellent 3LT monopod with Wimberley head (on the XT-4). I was worried about its extra weight and length compared to the 100-400, but in practice I found those differences trivial. This combination makes for aterrific birding assembly, for weight, portability, and image quality alike. IQ so far is intermittently extremely good (subject to the vagaries of such a handholding/partialsupport setup). The f8 limit at the long end requires (and rewards) pretty good light and extra care. For that reason I haven't tried it yet with the 1.4 extender. But I shot an egret with the kit above at about 75-100 yards andcaptured outstanding feather detail, and, as ... I'm no longer sure about the fate of the shorter lens, but I will absolutely keep the 150-600. For me it won hands down.

I've use the Fuji 100-400 for 3 years now, mainly for shooting wildlife. After reading the reviews I decided to buy the 150-600 to replace it. First impressions were its quite long compared to the older lens but it more than makes up for that with its internal zoom, to me this really makes a big difference to the handling.Apart from the longer reach, I'd say the biggest plus to this lens is the sharpness with the lens wide open, I've seen a massive improvement in my keeper rate in both pictures and video since I changed over, the sharpness has blown me away, really pleased with my purchase.I have to say because of the postal strikes in December I contacted WEX Newcastle instead of buying from WEX online and bought my lens from them. In short, legendary. If you understand the challenges of shooting with such a long lens given its capabilities, your capabilities, and those of your camera, you will probably love it no matter what the internet says. Because this lens is pretty incredible, actually. My scientific bookshelf test revealed image quality on my 26mp sensor that is maximally sharp and contrasty wide open through the whole zoom range, still great at f/11, with just a touch of softness creeping in around f/16, and a little more at f/22 (still usable, IMO). Stunning and sharp images. With great compression comes great bokeh. Almost no flaring. No sunstars either, sadly (or at least, I can't seem to make one). BTW if the lens is "soft" or "softer" at 600mm, I couldn't really see it (and I ... MoreIn short, legendary. BTW if the lens is "soft" or "softer" at 600mm, I couldn't really see it (and I tried given the internet's apparent consensus). In any case, the difference in reach between 520mm and 600mm is so slight it is almost unnoticeable, if that helps - and at that point, you sit at f/7.1, not f/8.Parfocal - wow, why isn't this mentioned more often? This lens holds focus as you zoom in and out. A videographer's dream and also useful for photography - I don't necessarily need to re-focus as I re-frame. Awesome.Perfectly damped and premium feeling build quality and controls. Aperture clicks are the nicest I've felt, the manual focus ring is one-finger precise, and the zoom barrel moves quickly but with just the right resistance. Slick, easy to remove tripod foot - so much better than the old designs. The build quality feels fantastic, plus the lens is relatively light and feels well-balanced on my gripped XT3. It's a bigger lens for sure, but it'll fit in my bag with camera attached if I just reconfigure it (too lazy so far). White paint legit makes shooting in summertime more comfortable. Love that. No OIS switch? Hate that. However, with a button assigned on the XT3, I can switch OIS modes super quick, arguably a better solution.OIS is highly effective. At 400-600mm, I'm doing just fine at 1/125, and well braced I can go even lower (important if one is trying to keep that ISO down). If shutter speeds are at 1/1000 or faster, I tend to shut OIS off. In testing I discovered OIS could ruin a shot on a tripod. Fuji's manual told me not to worry. Oops. I think they meant that, maybe, IBIS bodies like an XT4/XH2 can sense a tripod and lock up the OIS. For those of us with older camera bodies, an OIS switch with an option for panning would have been a godsend, alas, we didn't get that. The AF switch is useful. Great. The focus limiter is also useful. Fuji's menu system, notably, allows a custom focus limiter, if you want to try to speed things up even more / shoot through objects otherwise within the MFD.Obviously, with a superzoom like this, the focus motor is probably a less important factor than your super shaky hands and shutter speed choices. That said, AF seems very fast and accurate, the linear motor is nearly silent (I do hear some OIS whir, aperture noise at times in super-quiet places). The main issues relate to "busy" backgrounds and the MFD - when hunting insects, 8 feet can feel like a lot. Trying to shoot through foreground elements can push the lens into hunting. But when it does hunt, it settles itself quickly. Overall the AF feels very "red badge", which is to say, excellent. I'm sure on newer bodies with subject tracking options, it may be even better. In low light, it slows down a bit, but this has been true of every lens I own.In short, if the holy tetrad of shutter, aperture, ISO and focus all come together, this lens can make stunning and sharp images. But that's also the hard part, of course, depending on what you're doing. With excellent image quality, handling, and AF, I deem this lens legendary - with no obvious weaknesses, it will usually not be the main reason you did not "get the shot", IMO. It faces some (barely) "faster" competition from Sony's 200-600 and Nikon's excellent new 180-600. But it is also the lightest, it has the broadest zoom range, it is made in Japan, and-arethe others parfocal? Lots of value here.My sample images include one accidentally shot at ISO 12,800 - anoverexposed dragonfly shot recovered by lightroom's "enhance" feature, with a good result (in hindsight, I would have made it grainier). That's green grass right behind the tack-sharp rose (shot at 600mm), obliterated into smooth bokeh (ISO 1250). The other dragonfly was shot at 1/1500 and ISO 500 - super clean and great color/contrast (and I could have dropped that shutter way down - oops). The hummingbirds are SOOC jpegs cropped in-camera that were shot through a dirty window, using slower 1/250 or less at ISO 800-1600. No portraits shared to protect the innocent, but trust me when I say you could count the eyelashes. I can't wait to see what I can accomplish in portrait/landscape/sport settings.Any cons? Well, I would have preferred a fixed aperture to make manual shooting a little easier. It would also have been cool if I could program the buttons to do other things, like activate OIS or "pre-shot ES" for example. But otherwise, this lens is killer. Highly recommended.
Great image quality, no chromatic aberration at all! Super light . tripod collar included, shoulder strap is very handy. Fast focus. Continous tracking birds in video (xh1) at 600mm , no issues. Focus breathing, yes. But only on static objects while using high focus sensitivity. F8 at 600mm kind a dark, but other lenses you need to close up to F8 to achieve same sharpness. So maybe for someone who prefer less price to work around the inferior lenses, skip from Fuji at all.
I rented this lens to see if it was something that was going to blow away my Fuji 100-400 mm zoom. The short answer for me was no. Here are some reasons. Your mileage will vary depending on your needs. I am an avid amateur bird photographer. I often shoot under canopies, and most of my subjects are 10-30 yards from me and moving rapidly. Some bullets based on how I use a zoom:- It cannot be collapsed. I carry my X-T3 and lens on a neck strap. The longer 150-600 means it beats on my leg when hiking. If I retract the 100-400 and lock it, it is quite a bit shorter, which is better for hiking.- The 150-600 takes more room in my Think Tank wheeled travel case. This means I have less room for other lenses.- The 150-600 is heavier by 230 gr or 0.5 pounds. The ... This means I have less room for other lenses.- The 150-600 is heavier by 230 gr or 0.5 pounds. The 100-400 is heavy enough on five-mile hikes.- The lowest F-stop is higher than the 100-400. Even though the 150-600 has a better reach, there has to be enough light to support reasonable shutter speeds for hand-held photography. A few experiments in abundant light conditions proved that the 150-600 reached farther, but this doesn't help me when shooting under a dark canopy where light is minimal.- The 150-600 is a beautiful and well-constructed lens, but I am staying with the 100-400 because of the type of photography I do in reduced light conditions, using it on long hikes, travel, and for other reasons listed above. The 100-400 is the better of the two lenses for my needs.
After lugging a full-frame Canon 5diii and 300mm 2.8 withextender for 10 years, I finally decided to switch to a smaller, lightersystem.I went with the Fujifilm X-T5 and the Fujifilm150-600 lens. This setup is literally half the size and bulk of the Canon system (don’t get me wrong, Canon is a great system), so now I can carry the entire Fuji system in a small Flipside 300 backpack without suffering.Saying goodbye to a mirror and pentaprism was scary, butafter trying several iterations of tracking and focus settings, I believe that this little system is every bit as capable as the full frame setup – at a fraction of the cost.I’ve had “pumper” zooms before and I don’t like them becausethey get sloppy after time and I was never comfortable with the weather ... That’s why I decided on the 150-600; it’s all internal zooming. I should add that I prefer primes over zooms generally, but there have been times where I was glad to be able to zoom this lens out for composition. Full zoom at 600 mm provides a crazy amountof reach when combined with the crop sensor, but I was surprised at how useful this lens is because of the stabilization. I use a gimbal head monopod typically, but this lens is totally useful hand-held!As far as the speed of the lens – yes, it’s slower than a $5000 f2.8 prime telephoto – but in reality I would never want to shoot one ofthose wide open anyway, at least not for wildlife. And shooting in overcast or rainy conditions is totally do-able with this lens (it’s water resistant and the camera’s sensitivity is very good) but who wants to look at images without the sparkle and pop that decent light provides anyway – unless there is something really crazy going on?So for me, an aging enthusiast, this lens represents a real bargainthat performs without compromise.
I just got this lens last week. B and H sent it on the first day it was shipped. I used it with XT2. I also have the 100-400 mm Fuji lens which recently needed some repair. It is very light and fairly long but fits well into a regular backpack. This may be one of the lightest lenses with this reach. The image quality is excellent. Autofocus is modestly fast. I felt it was better when shooting video than still images. There is significant vignetting at 600 mm. There is some distortion at the periphery. I felt the 100-400mm was superior at every distance compared to this lens. So you get this lens for the reach. If 400mm is adequate I would prefer 100-400 mm lens even though it is heavier. While I've only had this lens for a few days, maybe 100 shots, I can already say this new tele has exceeded my expectations in every way. Red Badge worthy build quality and IQ. Sharpness edge to edge throughout the focal range. Amazing stabilization. No problem shooting handheld at 600mm.If I had to pick one nit, it would be the F8 maximum aperture on the long end. Certainly not a deal breaker, but worth noting. Modern sensors with low noise high ISO make it almost a non-issue.The only other review thus far mentioned terrible vignetting and minor distortion. I went back and reviewed my shots and must disagree. Vignetting is minimal, distortion nonexistent. I'm shooting on an X-T4 running the latest 1.5 firmware, which I'm assuming is correcting in camera, where ... Fujifilm Xf 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR Lens (X Mount)
Fujifilm is expanding its lens portfolio with the Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR super telephoto zoom lens for X series mirrorless system cameras. The lens complements the award-winning camera system for its outstanding image quality and compact design, which is also renowned for Fujifilm's unrivalled colour reproduction. The XF150-600mmF5.6-8 offers the longest focal length of any lens currently available for the X series, with a zoom range from 150mm to 600mm (equivalent to 229-914mm focal length). With the tele-converters already available, the range can be extended to an additional 1200 mm (equivalent to 1828 mm KB). Super telephoto lenses are prone to optical aberrations that lead to a loss of image quality. The optical system of the XF150-600mmF5.6-8 therefore comprises three ED elements and four super ED elements, which ensure high imaging performance over the entire focal length range. The fast autofocus ensures that the lens focuses precisely at the decisive moment. Despite its impressive performance, the XF150-600mmF5.6-8 is surprisingly light, weighing just 1,605 grams, and remains extremely handy thanks to the non-extending zoom mechanism. This makes the zoom lens the ideal choice for wildlife and sports photography, where it is often necessary to shoot from a great distance.
