Furminator Deshedding Tool for Dogs, Large / Long Hair

During the summer months I start with a shedding blade, then move to the Furminator deShedding tool. My dog is only 34 pounds, but his undercoat has an undercoat, which has an undercoat of its own. He's a Husky / German Spitz / Spaniel mix (mostly Spitz, thus the size). I can shed him for hours and still pull hair off of him. While this tool doesn't make short work of the job, it Does keep the hair together so I don't have to chase poofs around the yard. When I go over the same area for too long he'll shift his weight and that's when I know I was a little overzealous and it's time to move to a new section. The tool is especially nice for his mantle. It leaves the top hair long and pretty while thinning out the fluffy stuff underneath.

This brush is more than perfect. I have to Big Skt bernhards and they are loosing tons of hair. This brush Can remove so much hair thats inceedible. And Then there are actually anotjer function too- it can remove hair from your carpets / door mats better than the vacuum cleaner . Skt Bernhards has a lot of white long hairs that tha vacuum cleaner is having a struggle to remove . So I always brush my door mat before vacuuming and then it’s nearly clean from hair. I have tried so many comes and brushes but this one wins the price for being the most effective Thanks a lot for this amazing invention

Furminators are a must for me now. At least once every few months we have a proper groom (when my labs start to shed) and this is the tool for the job. I would warn though that due to the size, it’s not easy to get into small places and can be tricky to wield around wrinkles/bumps- so I have a little one I use for tricky bits (and our cat) and I leave the legs and face to a softer brush. This thing is made for buisness! That means you have to be far more careful than with some tools. It grabs fur really well so it’s important to slowly go from the top to the undercoat, or you may end up pulling your dog’s skin. Similarly too much pressure can scratch the dog, although our’s have never bled/visibly been hurt- so it may just be uncomfortable when it’s too close to the ... MoreFurminators are a must for me now. Being light is very important- you get used to the motion to lift the hair off by raising the wrist at the end of the stroke too. I have had three Furminator tools like this over the years and two of them have lost a tooth each- I haven’t a clue when but it’s something to be aware of. They’re great quality and the grips/button are similar to a really nice bike’s handles. I can’t recommend them enough. Just go easy with how often they’re used- our black lab looked like the night’s sky for a while with the amount of dead skin I was brushing to the top of his coat every day. This is your once a week/fortnight tool- not your daily maintenance.

I have been a Furminator user for 12+ years. After owning a husky, I learned quickly which brushes were going to be the best! The brushes themselves are durable and long lasting. I have had one of them I’ve been using for over 8 years. They remove undercoat and tangles so easily. The hand grip is comfortable. The best feature is the button that clears out the bristles and drops the hair right off so you can keep on brushing. My dogs all love getting brushed with their Furminator brushes! ❤️🐾

I have a german shepard and she sheds soo much. especially around spring time it’s like there’s hair all over my house. I got this brush and use it once a day (sometimes every other day) for just a few minutes and it’s a noticeable difference. When i sweep my floors I can fit the amount of hair in my palm compared to before it would take up the whole dust pan everyday. Her coat seems thinner but it’s great because it keeps her cool in the heat. in the winter i use this once a week so it doesn’t pull her undercoat out but just maintains the shedding

I have a husky/ golden doodle mix, so he needs a lot of grooming. I brush him often, and when I first started using the Furminator, it seemed super great! Sooo much hair was coming out... except at times, it almost seemed painful for my him (like it pulled hair out it shouldn'thave), but it definitely seemed to be effective. However, I'm a little hesitant after using it more often. Every time I use this comb, it pulls out a huge amount of hair... even after combing him multiple times in a row, it constantlypulls out a ton of hair. It seems to be more of a thinning tool than a de-shedding tool. I tried it on my own hair to test... terrible idea, highly DO NOT recommend using on your own hair... hurts like a mother!!! And pulled out a decent sized chunk in the process 😂😒 I most definitely don't regret buying the furminator, and I would certainly recommend this product to other dog owners... just take into consideration how you are using it (how hard you're pressing down, being able to feel it hitting a snag in the fur, the areas of the body you are combing over, etc.), and also how often you are using it... It is only to be used 1-2 times a week, and no more.

I was skeptical about the Furminator, because the metal "teeth" seem rather sharp and dangerous, but, surprisingly, they are less dangerous than a razor blade, though, I wouldn't want to drop one on open flesh! My finicky dog, who doesn't like to be bathed or cut or blow dried, etc, doesn't seem to mind the "scraping" from the Furminator. Using short, gentle, combing, action on her fur (i.e., no more than 4" at a time), a LOT of fur is removed that ordinary combing/brushing misses, and it works on both straight and curly fur (my dog has both). After about 10 strokes, you'll need to remove the collected fur from the Furminator, but, you'll get used to doing it after a few times, and it becomes almost an automatic part of the combing routine. I would not use it on extremely fine or short-haired breed, as it could hit their skin and bones, nor would I use it on or those with frou-frou do's, but, otherwise, the Furminator works great for my dog, especially during shedding seasons! I am very pleased with it!

My dog is long hair and sheds a lot of hair all of the time! This is product is so useful with the shedding and so easy to use! Every time I use the brush I always end up getting so much hair off my dog, it doesn’t pull at the hair it gently takes it off. My dog’s coat always looks loads better after using the brush. I have had the brush 4 years and it’s still going strong. The brush is easy to clean by removing the hair.

Blade Quality Concerns

We purchased a Furminator deshedding tool several weeks ago to assist in grooming our Australian Shepherd. After reading the instructions we proceeded with a bath, brushing, dematting and deshedding. The initial deshedding removed an enormous amount of undercoat, it worked really well. Afterwards we noticed the blade on the deshedding tool had several broken teeth. Apparently the teeth were brittle, made of inferior materials or had micro fractures in them from the manufacturing process.

Worst tool to buy for your pets

This product is absolutely awful!!!! Please don’t buy this and use it on your animal! Furminator is a tool that acts a a razor so essentially you are take off your pets top coat of hair when that’s not even part of the coat that sheds it’s the bottom coat. In the long run you’ll ruin your pets hair causing it to mate and causing your pet not to shed properly and making them super uncomfortable. Please do your pets a favor and never buy any furminator deshedding brush. (Recommended: metal pet hair rakes, metal bristle brush)
