I had a casio g shock back in the 90s and i was pretty happy with it. The GW-5000u is an OK watch but it has a lot of down sides. It's a bit on the small side for me, the light isn't that good and doesn't work that great on the automatic mode etc etc. I think technology has probably taken over and smart watches would be a better option in many cases. I'm a huge watch fan and have many tool watches from sekio to Rolex. I haven't given up yet and I'll give it a month or two

I grew up with G Shocks as my first watch for a long time but I parted ways for more of traditional automatic leather band watch and have been wanting to get back into it. Granted the price is a bit high for a G shock, but I know these last a lifetime and take hard beating so In a couple years I know Ill have my moneys worth. I have a pretty small wrist I think about 6.25 maybe a bit bigger but theres not a lot of band showing and isnt as big as I thought it be so thats a plus! I am extremely happy with my purchase. Love the watch, came in quick, in a really nice box and even some small gifts. Top notch. I originally purchased the 5600, cheaper version, and was hesitant to spend the money on the 5000. Best thing I ever did. Has a little more weight because of the screw on back and the band feels like it much higher quality. Glad I decided to go with it.
These are great watches. The solar, atomic keeps in fully charged from the light and the atomic radio tower keeps it on perfect time. They are very comfortable to wear. The rubber on this one is much softer than a standard G-shock. This watch can be worn by most wrist sizes. They are not cheap but a very nice watch. This model reminds me of my first square G-shock with the screw on back.

The modern 5000 looks the same with the same sturdy build quality and black straps. The materials have been improved - Silicon straps instead of rubber. The feels smoother and more flexible and probably will last longer. The watch itself now have some features that didn't exist in the original model, like solar power charging and radio synchronization for local time (not everywhere). This is a great daily watch that will go with me everywhere without worrying about it. After all, it's a G-Shock! I bought the classic black colored one, but I noticed there is also a Stainless Steel one in various colors (Natural steel, Blue, Red, etc.). ... Made in Japan, sold stainless steel and screwed down back, soft rubber strap. The quality and finish of this watch over the standard G Shock makes it worth every penny more!
This is probably the best G Shock made to date. You really have to wear it and feel it on your wrist to feel the quality. Inside resin case is steel and has a heft to it. Resin band is higher quality and softer than your typical bands. I think it could be a little cheaper. All in all, perfect G Shock
If there were one Gshock to buy, I would recommend this model. It's a modern reinterpretation of the original Gshock first introduced nearly 40 years ago with the latest module and the most comfortable resin strap I have yet to experience from a Casio Gshock.
Always a fan of this looks but I feel little bit uncomfortable from its heaviness. Band is softer than other gshock watches. Almost happy with the purchase. Thank You
