I've had this watch for a month now and used it primarily for hiking and running. Expensive? Yep. Worth the price? I say yes. Why? I upgraded from Fenix 5, so many features were familiar, but the 7X adds the Body Battery and Pulse OX functions, among others. Didn't think I'd like it at all, but I do - makes the maps in particular easier to navigate. There's a first-thing-in-the-morning summary of sleep, recovery, preparation for exercise, calendar events and weather, complete with a little life-affirming quote (maybe sappy, but I like it) - like everything else with this watch, you can turn this on or off. The logarithms (no different for this watch than any other Garmin model), aren't the most accurate - Recovery Time in particular is vastly overstated; others have written articles about this, but that's not a dig on this watch (and frankly, I'm amazed that they're brave enough to try and estimate that at all and come as close as they do). If the watch got lost or broken would I buy it again? Yes, and quickly. Would I recommend it to a friend? Assuming they could afford it, yes, without reservation. I have tried pretty much every brand of performance watch at one time or another. This is my favorite, by far. Christmas is coming - tell Santa.

I was a longtime user of the Fenix 5x plus - and wore it almost every day for 4 years. The watch performed admirably across multiple events and environments. Wear and Tear led me to upgrading my watch, and I couldn't be happier. The user interface does leave a bit to be desired in terms of navigation, but once you've acclimated, the features, functionality and usage make the watch an independent fitness tracker and coach, without the need to rely on on a distracting phone. The solar functionality is great, and the software has been significantly improved. By far the most pleasant introductions are the morning summaries and body battery - quick, actionable glances to prep me for my day or close down the old day. The watch is beautiful, looks great on your wrist and the battery life is incredible.Here comes the bad, if you have tattoos on your wrist the sensor will not read your pulse properly, which basically makes the watch useless.The watch is not able to track my sleep, or any exercise correctly. I've had the 7x for about a month and absolutely love it (like I have my 3, 5x and 6x solar). I wont go over this monster of a watch because there's enough already out there on the topic. This upgrade has improved upon the couple of things I personally wanted improved. 1) The touchscreen makes navigation SO much easier when working with maps 2) Although I'm in between plans, I have high hopes the improved satellite connections will make interval training much more accurate on track days (delay for pace to catch up was frustrating!) 3) BT headphone connection is much better! No more lag so far.Also, a couple things extra worth mentioning. 1). Although not an issue with the 6x because the battery was already good, but it's worth mentioning. Wow! I got this watch a few weeks ago mainly for hiking so i can follow courses I make and download to the watch. Since then I have been using it for more and more things. One thing that I thought (before I got it) that was a little gimmicky was the built in flashlight on the 7X. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I use that every night now when I don’t want to wake my wife or newborn up when I am up at night. I never use the light on my phone anymore. The red light makes it so nice ti see what I need without having a bright white light.So far my only real con is the screen backlight brightness is not able to go high enough. I hope that Garmin will add Solar and a much ling lasting battery to the Epix in the future and/or a much brighter backlight to the Fenix so that it was easier to read in lower light situations.The battery life not lasting even the daylight hours on the Epix 2 is the reason I got the Fenix 7X Solar.If the Fenix had a brighter back light (maybe) one that adjusted to preferred settings using the solar sensor that would help a lot. Especially for those of us over 40.Enhancement requests:I think there is a market out there for a jumbo size version if the Fenix where the actual screen part if the watch was closer to 50mm instead of 35mm. It would allow for much greater detail when using the watch outdoors during activities when you only have a split second to look down at your watch.Also some more customizable sounds would be great. I find it annoying sometimes when I look down at my watch and it is just an email or some app notification instead of a text message.This brings up my only other con for this watch. Not being able to filter what apps on the phone show up on the watch is kind of annoying. There are only a few apps like messaging or other important ones that i want on my watch, but i am stuck with all the others that come along as it is all or nothing.There needs to be a way to control what apps and messaging notifications make it through to the watch and what sounds they make. Even for basic things like text message there should be a way to filter out contacts you do or dont want as notifications on your watch.Also while it is not a critial feature it would be immensely useful to be able to create preset text message responses similar to the way you have presets on the inReach devices.All in all I really like the watch even at the $1,000 price tag. If you guys are looking for people to review compare future devices let me know.

I tried several third-party nylon straps, and while they were much cheaper, they had several issues. While they said they were for the 26mm lugs on the 7x, the reality is that it only applied to the connector and the straps were generally 20 or 22mm in width. My experience is that is left the watch in an unstable state on my wrist and it was easily snagged on jackets, pockets, or just about anything.The only real gripe about the watch itself is that you can't increase the font size on the complications. And, as a nice looking high-quality time piece for my everyday wear - it looks great! I'm not sure if I'll ever use all of the functionality the Fenix has to offer - but that's okay. I'm sure I don't use all of my iPhone, either. As for size and weight, it is slightly larger and heavier than my FR 935 (and the new FR 955), but within a day or two of wearing it and getting used to it - it's not an issue. I wear it all time, including when sleeping. We already know Garmin battery life is amazing so I take it off occasionally to charge it. I'm 6'0'' / 190 lbs. So far, I'm loving my new Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and would absolutely recommend it. PS. I use the flashlight all the time! Who knew that would be a thing? The screen also comes into its own with GPS maps where complete maps are shown rather than the breadcrumb trail which I’m used to.I was disappointed to find that temperature is no longer recorded during swimming. Garmin has deactivated this to preserve a component found to degrade with exposure to chlorinated water when active.Spotify & music control seems extremely difficult to set-up and Garmin Pay is only compatible with a few UK credit cards of which I have none. Garmin Fenix 7 Saphire Solar - well it's pretty much the most expensive smart watch that I looked at, and I hoped it would exceed my expectations as a result. The positives are it's a great looking stylish watch with innumerable configurable watch faces so you can go classic, digital or even have a photo of a loved one as the background. It has immense battery life, a really bright built in torch that I've found useful several times already (you just double click a button and boom you have serious light), gives feedback on sleep, heartrate and heartrate variability and steps taken, etc. It tracks all the sports I do and my version came with both a chunky leather and flexible rubber strap. I'm not sure the leather would like my regular swimming, plus it's not the ... MoreGarmin Fenix 7 Saphire Solar - well it's pretty much the most expensive smart watch that I looked at, and I hoped it would exceed my expectations as a result. The positives are it's a great looking stylish watch with innumerable configurable watch faces so you can go classic, digital or even have a photo of a loved one as the background. It has immense battery life, a really bright built in torch that I've found useful several times already (you just double click a button and boom you have serious light), gives feedback on sleep, heartrate and heartrate variability and steps taken, etc. It tracks all the sports I do and my version came with both a chunky leather and flexible rubber strap. I'm not sure the leather would like my regular swimming, plus it's not the sort of strap you'd want to be taking on and off frequently due to its stiffness, so I'm sticking with the decent looking grey rubber one for now. Garmin menus have never been particularly intuitive for me (I've had a couple of forerunners and bike navigation devices), and that is no different here. It's frustrating that you can't make and take calls on your watch (there's no built in microphone) nor can you use it to remotely control your camera (there's an app but it compresses and saves the pictures to your watch) like an apple watch can. So for the price I'm a little disappointed but think it's the best out there currently for what I need it for (mainly tracking walking, swimming, running and cycling) as well as monitoring my sleep and overall health. If the Fenix 8 adds an OLED display and you can use it to make calls from then that would be a big step forward.
