I've had this watch for a month now and used it primarily for hiking and running. Expensive? Yep. Worth the price? I say yes. Why? I upgraded from Fenix 5, so many features were familiar, but the 7X adds the Body Battery and Pulse OX functions, among others. You can customize (pretty much endlessly), including the touch screen function to be on or off, or on or off during particular activities. Didn't think I'd like it at all, but I do - makes the maps in particular easier to navigate. Love the flashlight feature, particularly the red light option (used it at night for star gazing to preserve night vision). The watch interface is a great improvement - a ton of info on the watch face, with the "Glance" ("Widgets" on the 5) customizable, as are all of the colors. ... MoreI've had this watch for a month now and used it primarily for hiking and running. Finally, the battery life is pretty amazing, as advertised - in my experience the solar feature seems to keep you from losing any battery life when you otherwise would, not adding to the charge, but my solar testing conditions haven't been the best. There's a first-thing-in-the-morning summary of sleep, recovery, preparation for exercise, calendar events and weather, complete with a little life-affirming quote (maybe sappy, but I like it) - like everything else with this watch, you can turn this on or off. The logarithms (no different for this watch than any other Garmin model), aren't the most accurate - Recovery Time in particular is vastly overstated; others have written articles about this, but that's not a dig on this watch (and frankly, I'm amazed that they're brave enough to try and estimate that at all and come as close as they do). If the watch got lost or broken would I buy it again? Yes, and quickly. Would I recommend it to a friend? Assuming they could afford it, yes, without reservation. I have tried pretty much every brand of performance watch at one time or another. This is my favorite, by far. Christmas is coming - tell Santa.

I was a longtime user of the Fenix 5x plus - and wore it almost every day for 4 years. The watch performed admirably across multiple events and environments. Wear and Tear led me to upgrading my watch, and I couldn't be happier. The user interface does leave a bit to be desired in terms of navigation, but once you've acclimated, the features, functionality and usage make the watch an independent fitness tracker and coach, without the need to rely on on a distracting phone. The solar functionality is great, and the software has been significantly improved. By far the most pleasant introductions are the morning summaries and body battery - quick, actionable glances to prep me for my day or close down the old day. Suggested workouts are also a welcome approach. ... MoreI was a longtime user of the Fenix 5x plus - and wore it almost every day for 4 years. Garmin asks you to commit, and returns your investment in spades. I look forward to my next Fenix in a few years' time.

Got this as a birthday present for myself since i’ve always wanted to have a built-quality rugged everyday use smartwatch and this is the very first smartwatch i have ever own and i am glad that i’ve waited a long time. Before purchasing it, I did my research and watched so many reviews on YouTube before making my final decision. To be honest, I was going to buy the Apple Watch Ultra but i’m glad that i didn’t because to me, the built quality is excellent! I was already drawn to this watch as if i’m meant to own this. Sure, the screen is not crystal clear like those Amoled or OLED. Although it would be nice to have them but for what it’s built for, i don’t think i need a beautiful Amoled screen. I really appreciate this watch for the way it is. Absolutely not! I can already see myself that i will be wearing this watch for quite a while. This will be a cool everyday use for me whether i’m at the gym, work, running, hiking, camping, attending occasional parties or events, traveling, or pretty much anywhere.

Excellent watch to switch to from Apple to Garmin. Has a lot of capabilities with a very good battery life. If you are an outdoor person this watch is for you. For me probably to much of a watch for me but still love it!If you are coming from Apple to Garmin it’s most likely you do a lot of things outside and want to be able to track it. Apple is capable of doing it running marathons golfing or just being out 4+ hours it’ll most likely be able to survive but then you will need to charge it if not just have a dead watch on your wrist until you can. I switched for this reason, run a marathon every year and start to finish out there for a long time lol. Watch will die as soon as I cross. Play golf as well and will die after each round. So instead of buying a new Apple Watch every year I’m looking to save on the long run with Garmin. After 1 month use the battery life is well noticed, now 30+ battery life claim, not really I’m sure if you turn off all the functionality and just have it as a wrist watch with no monitoring, I’m pretty sure it will last 30+ days. Now with all the sensor and on and all GPS and doing 3 runs outside and playing golf once a week, the watch will last me 7 DAYS, oddly satisfying. So solar is a great to help the battery not drain so fast, I wouldn’t say it charges it but say delays draining. Imagine a 2.5 gallon jug with a spout, if you opening fully the water is going to drain fast, if you open it up half way and maybe not puncture a hole it, still going to drain but not as fast. That how I look at the solar functionality.Touch screen thought I would have a tough time transitioning from Apple to Garmin touch screen, I thought I was dependent on the touch screen but find out that touch screen is nice I don’t use it a lot. Since now I have options to use buttons in some respects it faster and some are slower so having the ability for both or neither is a really good touch lol. During activities I turn off touch screen, since I found out showering with your Garmin water droplets will activate touch screen and lets just say I had to reset my watch since it was set onto something I couldn’t figure out how to unset (day 1) lol. So Activity no touch, general use touch. I don’t shower with my watch was just testing it!Now I do have some gripes with the watch and its not a perfect world but its still a 5 star rating for me. Watch face settings are hit or miss, if you like overload of access and information you have it, but if there are a few things you really want it seems it doesn’t have that number for me, it’s either to many quick accesses or not enough. I know with the face with all the quick access you don’t have to use it, but that’s like going on an elevator for the first time and not touching all the buttons for all the floors.Biggest gripe is Apple Music, not sure who to blame but I’m not switching to spotify. I have a family plan with spotify and it works great except for on this watch. But on my runs or my work out at the gym where I really do not want to bring my phone, I would like to be able to listen to music or podcast. This probably has effect me enough to where I still have my Apple watch and instead having the bands on them, I disband the Apple watch and put the face in my pocket to work out or go for a run, so I don’t have to bring my phone. So I basically have made my Apple watch into an Apple Nano 8th edition lol.Overall this watch is great and my initial hesitation on missing the touch screen has been drowned out by the battery life and button functionality. With the Watch face on Garmin doesn’t really break the watch for it’s just more of an annoyance that has grown on me. Apple music obviously I would love to live in a perfect world where everyone works together peacefully, but that’s not the world we live in, sacrifice survive and adapt is the world we life in that all we must do!
This was a gift from my wife a few weeks ago and I love it! I was lukewarm towards smart watches as I'm a long time Rolex fan and battery life on most watches seems to be kind-of short. However, this Fenix 7x Solar provides more tech than I've been able to figure out in 3 weeks, easy to use, all the Garmin map/GPS/Altitude stuff that makes Garmin great; all the health monitoring and a fantastically good battery life, I'm getting somewhere around 25 days of battery charge, at least as best I can tell with it being this new. I like the touch screen functionality, it works but if you accidentally brush up against something the screen isn't activating, it knows when you want to interact with it and otherwise stays on the main screen. The flashlight is very handy; it's a very functional watch and I'm not giving up my Rolex, but will interchange these as needed. I am very impressed with this in the 3 weeks I've had it and still on the learning curve with respect to everything the watch can do. It also easily integrates with my phone and I've added the applicable Garmin apps to match with the watch, just a great smart watch. Oh, it's also waterproof. Great adventure watch!

New HRV functionality is terrible—it will completely ruin any of your recovery metrics and makes their iffy sleep metrics even worse. Wish you could disable it.
I recently purchased the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar - and absolutely love it! I've been using Garmin products for years and have always had good luck with the products and company/customer service - so choosing Garmin over other competitive brands/products was never really a consideration for me. As a multi sport endurance athlete, prior to the Fenix 7X, I wore the FR 935 (and 910XT before that). My FR 935 worked fine - no complaints. I typically train every day so switching from dress watch (Rolex) to sport watch is not ideal. So for quite some time now, I basically wear my Garmin watch every day. I typically train every day so switching from dress watch (Rolex) to sport watch is not ideal. So for quite some time now, I basically wear my Garmin watch every day. (I still love my Rolex and wear it for special/more formal occasions) What attracted me to the Fenix 7X was the sapphire crystal. I wanted all the functionality of a multi-sport watch and something that looked like a nice/high-quality watch, as well. (The Gorilla glass holds up pretty well, but after a while, mine started to look a little rough). I was a little concerned about the size and weight of the 7X as compared to my FR 935 (or new FR 955) and did as much research as I could before pulling the trigger. I finally made the decision to go with the 7X Sapphire Solar - and absolutely love it! As a multi-sport watch it's awesome! And, as a nice looking high-quality time piece for my everyday wear - it looks great! I'm not sure if I'll ever use all of the functionality the Fenix has to offer - but that's okay. I'm sure I don't use all of my iPhone, either. As for size and weight, it is slightly larger and heavier than my FR 935 (and the new FR 955), but within a day or two of wearing it and getting used to it - it's not an issue. I wear it all time, including when sleeping. We already know Garmin battery life is amazing so I take it off occasionally to charge it. I'm 6'0'' / 190 lbs. So far, I'm loving my new Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and would absolutely recommend it. PS. I use the flashlight all the time! Who knew that would be a thing? Good luck - and I hope this information is helpful.
Since buying this 7xSapp.Sol. I had the please to store 25 Watch faces, Spotify, and a few widgets. Other than the watch faces, (coolest part) this Fenix is definitely NOT worth the 1,000.00 plus taxes price point.. Wait til this goes 30% off.Why do you ask?? Well the battery life is not even close to the specs they put in writing.. I’m getting 19 days and that was a selling point for me…that 1month time span was like… oh yeah… but NO.The Connection issues with my iPhone are super annoying… I can’t go into the other room more than 20 feet from my phone and it drops connection.. or sometimes just drops randomly is it’s doing that..I’m constantly having to reset the watch, uninstalling the connect apps, resyncing the device, reinstalling the apps, connect back to ... MoreSince buying this 7xSapp.Sol. You have to just use your phone as the source people… Save the music app and download another face… That also goes up quick being your only limited to 25-30 data points or apps.. Needs more memory, all of a sudden we’re back to the original MP3 player.. I could bring up more issues, but as for the build quality.. it’s below average… the top right corner button constantly sticks and is inaccurate to the commands.. all buttons are very sticky, but this one does not work.. Also around the corners of the week face, when I wear to sleep, the corners of the Watch where the lugs or screws sit, I get fabric hairs from sheets rubbing underneath the front face.. it’s like the bezel is not screwed down tight and the edges catch.. had to use tweezers to get “hairs” outta front case bezel… The Solar charging and the flashlight are very gimmicky, Amd then lastly the screen is terribly bad at reading colors it seems as off most color shades are all about the same except the green blue or red… (standard color spectrum). I do have a replacement coming set aside all these problems. Hopefully, Garmin gets it right……….Eventually they may.. With that being said of the review, REI did make it right with a few gift cards to their store for the shipping issues, takes like 6-8 days to receive, due to a battery being in Watch they send standard ground… PERIOD..REI did send me a open box item… sold as new. That was no bueno as well!! BUT, again made good with the issues we are experiencing and gave us a percentage off the purchase.. Cushioning the purchase, we have decided to keep good with REI,MAD PROPS TO REI’s service!! and riding out the storm with Garmin, as they continue to make tiny steps in the overall software development of their devices…PS- no watch faces transfer over to the new device if you need to replace.. Only your health data transfers over… So all your apps widgets or faces need to all be reinstalled and reconfigured.. gotta figure a way to save that into the connect app or connectQ, backup and sync data… ya know..But hey… MORE MONEY.. MORE PROBLEMS.
Purchased a few weeks ago and taken it on a couple of summits and hikes. I’m familiar with the Garmin InReach so was a little surprised this required a new app and new website to build your maps on. The watch requires 3 apps. Being a tech person I’m still frustrated and lost navigating the apps and menus so could not imagine how many features many will pay for but never use due to the complexity. Solar charging seems useless while wearing and seems the only way to benefit is by removing it and laying it out in the sun for a few straight hours. Disappointed too that the charging cable has not switched over to USB-C seems like they’re leaving room for a next generation. Screen is not very bright when lit and at max brightness and seems to lack contrast when in the ... MorePurchased a few weeks ago and taken it on a couple of summits and hikes. Screen is not very bright when lit and at max brightness and seems to lack contrast when in the unlit mode. One easy improvement that might exist I just can’t seem to find it would be a guide or index explaining what information each data field provides you when setting up your data screens and even better an image of that data field. On the plus side the strap seems high quality and the DLC finished Bezel has withstood a few bangs against rocks without chipping so that’s a great surprise. I think the watch is the best in its class but has plenty of room for improvements
I found the spo2 to be very inaccurate most times it would say im in the low 90s and im really at 98 or 99 garmin needs to really improve the accuracy i know its not a medical device but clsiming a 1-2% accuracy and being off over 5% is ridiculous i bought this watch to replace my fenix 5x plus sapphire which was more accurate than this watch. The solar charging is about as useless as it is on the edge 1040 solar battery had to be charged weekly with only sleep spo2 active and maybe 3 1hr long activities using best accuracy gps settings. At the end of the day i had to return it because the spo2 was too inaccurate and thats kind of a major reason why anybody woukd spend that much money on a good watch. I do love the sapphire watch faces they are basically scratch proof i had my fenix 5x plus sapphire and have slammed it into many sorts of metals and concretes including crashing my bicycle and the watch face remained unscratched over the years that ive had it i wore out a watch band even thats how much i used it. The 7x was just not up to par with the 5x. The toych screen made it a lot easier to use than the 5x however on the 7x you couldnt search for things on the map by typing in a store name or wven filter anything the onky option was show everything nearby then scroll on the map and tap on it which is frustrating cuz it does not load fast at all garmin should enabke you to send locations to the smart watch for navigation same way they do for the car gps units using garmin smartphone link or include a way to search in the connect app as they now allow you to use ur phone keyboard to type in what you want on the watch or enable a search field. I may buy it again.
