Absolute genius, no mounting, battery or wiring. Because you can cast it out you can see what is in your casting area, rather than just what is under your kayak unlike a conventional fish finder. But here is the genius part, you can use it for bank fishing. What a game changer

I have been incredibly impressed with this little unit. Light and mobile with good sonar. Picks up depth, temp, and fish quickly and well. The mapping works great and will be a game changer on small unmapped ponds and lakes. I have not used this in my kayak yet but have no reason to believe that it won’t perform spectacularly, as it has worked well casted and ice fishing. Between size and price I can’t believe that this unit hasn’t put entry level flashers out of business. Only down side is it does where down my phone battery semi quickly (in a couple of hours), but this is most likely due to use in temperatures 10-40 degrees F and the fact that my phone is 5+ years old. All in all a great product that I would recommend, I would also splurge for the GPS model if you ... MoreI have been incredibly impressed with this little unit. Light and mobile with good sonar. Pretty cool little unit. Works great on flat water! I am on the Great Lakes. Does not give a very good reading in waves and is not very good on really rough water. Make sure that whatever you are going to use it with has a daylight screen (can still read screen in full sun).

Received the Striker fish finder a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to use it. I charged it at home, downloaded the app and took it out on the water for a few hours. The app and device worked well. Over an hour in the water and the battery hardly moved at all. I didn’t catch anything, but I saw fish.
Used this while ice fishing this winter, worked good!Been using the Garmin Striker4 about 5 years ice fishing and on my kayak. Compared the two this winter through the ice, both worked great.Only con of Garmin Cast was occasionally I believe ice would make the connection misread, not too big of a deal, just pull it up tap it off and worked great again.Nice not to have to carry battery, case etc.Really didn’t drain my phone down past half charge, using it all day in a tournament at -4 morning that warmed up to 30’s during the day.Going to see this spring if it’s capable of being trolled from kayak and read correctly.Hope this helps someone.
I used my brand new striker cast twice in the summer, got it out for some ice fishing and it wouldn't work. Upon inspection there was a crack from the bottom, where sonar is, going up to where the white top meets the darker botton. There was water in the inside, probably why it didn't work. I have no idea why or how the crack got there? I was very careful to not drop it or bang it around. I'm 72 years old, and don't have any young kids around that would be playing with it??
I bought this for the local ponds (~10 acres). The sonar works great and paints a clear picture of where the fish are hanging out. I found two new spots the first time I used it and caught fish within the first two casts.I'm still trying to understand how to use the mapping tool correctly.
I towed this behind my canoe and was going too fast — it kept disconnecting. It did find fish and. Gave me an accurate view of the bottom. I feel as if it will be better used with a spinning rod when striper fishing later this year
Worked on first cast. Located fish, bottom, and weeds as expected.Did find a pesky problem on occasion. It would periodically go into a skipping mode where it seemed to skip a beat by giving me a blank return followed by a good return. I would fiddle around with the line by tugging and switching modes, but couldn’t seem to resolve the issue or identify what was causing it. Could be the gain or some other setting but not sure yet because it was my first day working it. Overall I am satisfied that it will locate fish for me, just not sure it will catch them for me yet. Will need to determine what is causing the skips before I give it a 5 star rating.
Super Easy to use, charges fast and has not gone dead yet and I have fished for 6+ hours. Starts up right after hitting the water and has a nice and simple readout that can be understood by novice or advanced sonar users. The pricepoint is great as well. I am casting from bank with a 6'9 Medium Fast with 20lb Braid. I WOULD RECOMMEND A Heavier action and Medium Heavy Rod, but it works well even on this lighter srtup.
