Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Dry Dog Food - 7.98kg
I simply must find out why my pet seems so sluggish. So I go to the experts. Hills Prescription Diet k/d Canine Kidney Care dog food is formulated by veterinarians and nutritionists to support your dogs kidney health. Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. There are many causes for kidney, or renal, disease that result in a variety of uncomfortable and life threatening symptoms for your dog. The disease may develop either suddenly or gradually, and may a result from other diseases, changes in health, hereditary tendencies, and nutritional factors. Prescription Diet k/d Canine Kidney Care therapeutic food for dogs is clinically proven to extend and improve quality of life in dogs. It contains reduced phosphorus to help maintain healthy kidney function, as well as reduced levels of protein to help alleviate kidney workload. Reduced sodium helps maintain normal blood pressure. Blood flow to the kidneys is boosted by increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids, while increased levels of B-complex vitamins compensate for vitamin losses in the urine.

Veterinarians recommend reduced protein for dogs with kidney problems. Science Diet makes Prescription Diet Kidney Care that shows protein at 12%. An 8.5 lb. bag costs about $45.00. That is $5.37/lb. It requires a prescription. I bought it from my veterinarian. Science Diet also makes a Veterinary Recommended Adult7+ small bites at 15.5% protein. This is still reduced protein in that most dry dog foods have protein well over 20%. This one costs $37 for a 15 lb. bag. That would be $2.46/lb. It does not require a prescription and costs less than half of the other one. I bought it at Petco. Query: Is it worth buying Kidney Care k/d to have 3.5% less protein in the kibble? In my opinion, probably not. Any thoughts on the matter?

Our 15 year old Staffy has been on this product for 18months. We initially thought the 'accidents' inside were due to an operation that kept him immobilised for 6 weeks. After a visit to the Vet we found out he had kidney damage. Although it took a few weeks for him to get use to the taste of this product (an so we added some mashed sweet potato) we can now leave his dry food next to the bowl of dry food for our other dogs and he prefers (and I think knows) to eat his. We have not had one accident in the house since. He is happier, healthier and this product has definitely extended his life. Highly recommend.

After my senior dog got diagnosed with kidney disease about a year ago, our vet recommended Hill's Prescription k/d Kidney Care Dry Dog Food. I was worried my dog might not like the taste since she's the pickiest eater... Luckily, my dog really loves the taste if the food and after switching to Kidney Care, my dog's blood tests have improved. I'm so thankful to my vet, to Hill's and to PetCulture. We have this item on AutoDelivery and have scheduled it with a few weeks overlap as the product can sometimes be out of stock on every pet shopping site.

My dog has been eating the hills k/d food for over 2 years. After the recent change in recipe she will no longer eat it. My dog NEEDS to be on this food to keep help her kidney disease under control. Why did they change the formula? I've been buying this food on an automatic delivery schedule for over a year and the last bag I got was the new formula and my dog hates it and refuses to eat it.. Now I'm stuck with a bag of food that cost me over $100 that my dog won't eat.
My dog has been on the k/d food for over 2 years but doesn't like the new recipe. I made sure to make a gradual change from the old to the new recipe but now she is refusing to eat her food. She needs to be on the special food due to her chronic kidney disease. She liked the old recipe and would gobble it up as soon as I put it in her bowl but since we got the new k/d she won't eat. I don't know what to do, I have a bag of dog food that cost over $100 that my dog won't eat. ]
I have a 13 year old lab who has developed kidney disease. He has always loved his food and licked the bowl. When I started adding this food he started leaving food in his bowl. Now that he is totally on K/D i add lots of the canned and he still won't finish a bowl. Two days ago I smelled the food in the bag. It smells awful, rancid. My vet assured me that it wasn't out of date. I'd like to know how other owners got their dogs to eat this! PS The price is outrageous though that would not stop me from buying it if he'd eat it.
Our dog has been on the dry k/d chicken food for about two years. My husband did not notice the sticker about the change in the formula. With the new food, she took from the morning feeding to the afternoon feeding to gradually eat it. We started wetting the food which helped. When she first rejected it, I searched online for word about a change in the food, but did not find anything. Last week I searched again and found the notice. We found some food left from the former formula and she ate that fine. We will try another brand of kidney diet food.
We tried to introduce it slowly to our dog in increasing portions over a several days to no avail. I'm sure it's a good product produced for its intended purpose, but Hills need to work on making it more palatable. My dog would eat just about anything, but not this. The pellets are quite oily to touch and have an unpleasant odour. If your dog has kidney disease it's worth a try. Maybe buy from somewhere where they offer a money back guarantee if your pet rejects it.
I am submitting my review based on my new experience purchasing this great product through Petcircle. At first I was hesitant to use online purchase, but Petcircle followed my delivery, which I have received in great packaging and condition. I am happy with the whole process and obtainability. Thank you Angela, Petcircle. Til my next purchase for my beloved GS dog, thank you. Happy Customer. Ann
Why did you change the formula? I just bought an 8.5 lb bag from chewy with surprisingly new formula. Recently had bought 17 lb bag- now it's old formula. Vet said I need to transition old to new slowly over # of days. The 17 lb bag is now wasted. Why did you change formula? Notice new formula has chicken vs.pork fat etc.
