This is the only kidney disease prescription wet cat food my cat will eat. She loves another brands dry food but I understand that dry food is not as good for her. I wish this flavor came in the smaller size can. She eats such small portions at a time and won’t touch it if it has been out for more than 30 minutes. My cat only eats it when it's fresh out of the can, because this food doesn't refrigerate well; as another reviewer noted—it changes the smell once it's been in the fridge for a day or two. I hate to waste so much of it, especially given the hefty price.

I have this food on auto ship. This case of cat food has a different consistency and my cat has been vomiting since this new shipment. I worried that I was sent the wrong food, so I examined the can. It has a new formula. I was given no notice that the formula changed or would be changing. Cats need gradual food changes. Since giving her this new formula, she has been vomiting every day. It’s heartbreaking to see your 20 year old 6 pound elderly cat vomit from her food. Shame on Chewy!

My cat devoured the tuna pate she got in the sampler pack, so I ordered a box of them. So far, out of seven cans, one was just like the sampler pate: it popped out of the can easily and was solid with a firmer texture, and she loved it. She would purr while eating! However, the remaining six cans didn’t come out of the can at all (they have to be scraped out with a spoon), were not solid and had a much soupier texture like a pudding, and had a dark ring around the center. My cat won’t touch these at all. I’ve had to throw out nearly every can. I’m disappointed by the lack of consistency, especially for such an expensive product.
When your cat is limited to only a few choices for kidney prescription food, It's pretty crucial to find something they like. Had limited success with Royal Canin, so decided to try the Hills. Not only does my cat seem to enjoy this, but also seems satisfied with the k/d dry kibble prescription and after time has passed, seems more perkier and has gained some much needed weight. Hills has extended the life of other previous senior rescue cats imo. The best thing though overall, is the extreme seriousness that Chewy takes in making sure that prescription food arrives pronto. Never more than two days from the order placement, and from previous rescue seniors prescription needs, I do have a lengthy history of dealing with Chewy prescription food. I trust Hills and I ... It was going good at first but now that a few weeks have passed my cat seems to not be enthusiastic about eating it. She was before, but not so much anymore. I know it’s not an appetite thing because she still gets excited to eat her other wet food. I’ve started to mix the two together to get her to eat it which has sort of been working. I’m not sure if it’s just the tuna flavor that she doesn’t like (since she never acted like this with the chicken) or if it’s the kidney diet as a whole. My cat’s pickiness is the only reason for the lower rating but I do feel like my cat has been doing better since switching her to the kidney diet. My apartment kinda smells like tuna though cuz it’s got a really strong odor.
Given the price of this food I would think Chewy would package it more carefully. Half the cans are crushed and many have the seal broken. I had to throw out 5 cans. I usually only report half my trashed orders to Chewy as I think that’s fair because some cans are salvageable, and this happens often. I know they usually replace trashed cans, which I appreciate. But with the expense of this food and some medical urgency, to not put it in a cardboard protector is crazy. Save your time and money and just get this food from your vet.
After my 13 year old buddy was diagnosed with kidney disease we transitioned him over to this food that our vet prescribed. It takes a lot of coaxing to get him to eat it. Idk if it’s because his appetite is compromised due to the disease or if he just doesn’t like the food. We’ve tried the tuna pate & both the vegetable & tuna stew & the vegetable & chicken stew. None of them wowed him. He won’t even touch the dry food. The only other option to try in the Hill’s brand is the chicken pate which we may try after our follow up visit. Otherwise we will have to try a different brand. I do feel he eats it better when freshly opened but the price point makes it hard for me to toss it when he loses interest in eating it.
About a year and a half ago my beautiful cat was diagnosed with Kidney disease. My vet told me in order to sustain her life I had to immediately switch to a special diet specifically for cats for Kidney disease. I tried all the different brands that were available but my Jazz showed pretty much no interest in them. . . Until as a last resort I gave the Hills prescription diet K/d pate cans a go. My cat loved them! She was finally showing interest in her food again. I was so happy to find something she wanted to chow down. She only eats small meals so one can lasts a few days. Jazz loves the soft texture of the pate and she definitely prefers the tuna flavour, occasionally she is willing to eat the chicken ones but tuna is her favourite.
