Both of my large dogs have been on this for 4 years and love it! Sampson is 9 and a flat coat retriever mix. JuneBug is 4 and a Newfoundland mix. Sampson had to go through TPLO surgery 3 years ago and has recovered so well with this food and the Cosequin supplements. So much so that we decided it was best for JuneBug to eat the same diet being a large dog as well. I believe that with these changes we have avoided a possible additional surgery on his right leg. He lost the weight he needed to on this diet. I still add fresh ground turkey to their dinner every night, but they get this the morning, dry. The price of the food has saved me thousands in surgery bills. Nothing is too good for my kids. We only have them a short time, why not do the best?

I bought this food for my three year old dog, Norman after he had been recommended by my Vet, after his diagnosis of Hip Dysplasia and Degenerative Joint Disease. Norman is a German Shepherd X Husky, who has struggled with his weight as a result of being unable to be as mobile as most other dogs his age, as a result of his hip/joint problems. We have tried countless brands of dry "diet" food, with very little success. Norman turned his nose up at most kibble that I placed in front of him and it felt like an uphill battle to find something that would both satisfy his medical/dietary/preference requirements. But when we tried this, he would have eaten the entire bag if I'd have let him! I have noticed a significant difference to Normans mobility and I've been able to loose his weight and maintain him at a healthier weight, with every visit to the Vet being a positive one, with Norman having lost more weight. This food, alongside his medication has been brilliant for him and I am so pleased we were recommended to give it a go!

I have been feeding Hills for years to my dogs & cats. When I took in a overweight Cocker with food allergies I knew what food was my choice. Not only has she loved the food, which for her in trouble anyway, she feels fuller and has great stools & coat. She seems to feel fuller, not so much begging, she has lost weight and has more energy. Hills is backed by science & research and I trust Hills to give my pets what they need. I have a 17 yr old dog that has eaten Hills his entire life and still has the energy he had when he was 4.

I am very skeptical of hype & advertising but I have to say I was stunned at how good this food is & how much difference it has made to my 12 Year old Labrador movement & comfort. She was overweight when I got her & due to arthritis I couldn't take her for long walks to lose the weight, this food has helped her lose some weight that helps with the arthritis & also makes her feel full so she's not always begging for food, once when I ran out of the food and was waiting for the delivery, she couldn't even get up onto the lounge & as soon as she was back on the food for a few days, she was running around and playing again. My recommendation in two words- Miracle Food.
We have two large older dogs on this dog food. The twelve year old dog went from 122 down to 113 in two months. But our ten year old dog has not lost one single pound. She is still at 125 pounds and she was getting 4 cups a day and now 3.5 cups split into two meals. She is hungry and begging for more. Her name is Meatball. We feel so sorry for her but she HAS to lose weight somehow. This dog food is way to expensive not to work. But Crystal who is two years older and less active and gets more food has done great. She will be at her 90 pound goal in about 3 -4 more months.
My dog has been fed the Metabolic diet before and after the formula was changed, as was the taste. Fortunately, my dog likes both versions. He's been fed this diet, at 2/3 the amount of recommended volume per day, and had an initial weight loss of 3 lbs in 2 months, but then his loss stopped, even though he's exercise and volume of food has not been increased. He's been on this diet for 3.5 months has only lost 4 lbs. He is supposed to lose 14 lb, so this diet may not be the effective one for my dog. I will reduce the amount of the Metabolic dog food, again, that my dog is being fed. If he does not lose any more weight within a month, I will stop feeding this expensive food to my dog.
Already feeding my Maltese Shitzu this combination out of two bags. So happy it's together now. My has most of its teeth removed so now I splash a small amount of water on top to get them soft before she eats them. Decent sized pellets. Has been helping with my old mobility not so much the weight loss, I don't think anything is for weigh loss just keeping her healthy.
I reviewed this food six months ago and just wanted to give some additional feedback. Our Staffordshire Terrier is still being fed the Prescription Diet Metabolic Lamb and Rice Formula. Prior to this, he had been on the Metabolic Chicken Formula dry food, but we switched him due to some sensitivities to the chicken that were skin related. The chicken came in a larger kibble, and offered a more satisfying crunch. The lamb formula is a much smaller kibble, and he often times doesn't chew his food well. I have spoken to the Hills Science Diet folks and it doesn't sound like a larger lamb based kibble is in the cards for now. We do allow him some fresh string beans as a treat, but nothing else. He is fed twice a day and continues to maintain his recommended weight. ... MoreI reviewed this food six months ago and just wanted to give some additional feedback. I have spoken to the Hills Science Diet folks and it doesn't sound like a larger lamb based kibble is in the cards for now. We do allow him some fresh string beans as a treat, but nothing else. He is fed twice a day and continues to maintain his recommended weight. There were several points that I wanted to bring up, in hopes of helping other dog owners. The food seemed very expensive to us in the beginning. Had we followed the feeding guidelines on the bag, it would have been not only astronomical, but he would have been overfed. If you are looking to help your dog lose weight, it is important to know what his recommended caloric intake is per day, based on your vet's assessment. Once you have that number, you can do the math and figure out what it is appropriate for your animal. The other point I would like to bring up is that our dog seemed to be hungry even after his meal, and would basically pick up his bowl and toss it as in a tantrum. We ended up playing around with the amounts we were feeding him, and found that, if we increased his morning feeding, he was not seeming as hungry at dinner. This is working. He gets 1 1/2 cups of food in the morning, and 1 1/8 cups of food at dinner. Based on these amounts, he is getting his appropriate amount of calories, and, although he his system works like clockwork and he knows exactly when it is 5 PM and time for dinner, he is satisfied. It took us several months to cost out the price of his old food versus the Science Diet food. We determined that, once the third bag of Science Diet food had been purchased, we had started seeing a savings. This food has been a blessing, and although it took some time, the benefits have been great. We have just started our younger dog, a pit bull terrier, on the Metabolic Chicken Weight Management/Mobility food, as she has had two CCL replacement surgeries in the past year. Will update on that later.
She was our first Beagle mix rescue (about 2 y.o.). She ballooned from 37# post-heartworm treatment and adoption to 50# in less than a year before we caught on to the fact that Beagles REALLY like to eat. (No - they really are not always starving to death, regardless of what kind of act they put on !) We spent probably 2 years trying to get her weight back down but couldn't seem to keep her satisfied. Our vet then said that he would prescribe Metabolic for her. In the space of maybe a year, she dropped back down to 42# and levelled out. Better yet, she was no longer begging for food constantly. She ate, and was satisfied. Great results. We kept her on it for the next 8 years til she passed. In extreme cases where nothing else has worked, I will recommend this product.
My Siberian husky went from a skinny rescue dog to an obese adult within two years of me having her. My doctor put her on this food three months ago and she's already lost 10 pounds. We also no longer give any snacks or treats in between feedings and are very diligent about portion size of the food. I also gave the same food to my lab mix who was overweight and now with in four months she is at perfect weight the vet said having lost 15 pounds. This product does what it says. And they do actually stay full which is what my vet said would happen when I questioned the portion amount being so small. He said that whatever was in the food made them feel fuller and they are not begging for food . I don't know the miracle mix of what is causing this but if you have an ... MoreMy Siberian husky went from a skinny rescue dog to an obese adult within two years of me having her.
