Arthur, my older Malte-Poo, had to have emergency surgery to save his life nearly three years ago -- due to multiple stones in his bladder. He couldn't urinate, was in pain, barely able to stand and almost toxic by the time we rushed him to the vet. After his surgery, we were advised that he should ONLY eat this and drink distilled water -- NOTHING ELSE by mouth for the rest of his life. We were told that even doing that, there was a great likelihood that history would repeat itself. It hasn't. I'd like to think this expensive food has something to do with that...After realizing that we would be spending more on our dog's food than we do our family's groceries for a week -- we found that Chewy carries prescription diets! It is cheaper (still expensive, but not Chewy's fault) and effortless -- and more, has been an absolute blessing during the pandemic. I credit how easy Chewy has made it that we are 100% compliant on Arthur's diet -- other than our naughty cat sometimes sneaking him a tidbit of her food by knocking it off her perch. Finally, I want to respond to the criticism by another reviewer that the price has increased without notice. We have been buying this via Chewy since 2018 -- and I reviewed all my orders to July 2021 -- it has remained the same price. It is more than $20 more through my vet's clinic -- and they don't deliver it to my home every month. Moreover, every. single. month. I get emails that remind me that my auto ship will soon be filled, and to check to make sure everything is correct. Even if the price had changed dramatically, I would easily be able to see that and change my order and avoid the charge, if I so choose. I can only speak to my experience, but Chewy's customer service has been nothing less than exemplary in the four years I have used them.

My dog had structure crystals and nearly constant UTIs, so his veterinarian recommended this food. We tried Royal Canin, but it was making him vomit. He unfortunately wouldn’t touch the Pro Plan UR food. So that just left Hill’s. It has my least favorite ingredients of the 3 brands, but my dog is eating it and tolerating it pretty well. My only complaint is that it includes beef– he’s sensitive to beef, and it sometimes causes GI upset. Especially considering that this food is labeled “chicken and rice”, it would be nice if the main protein was chicken. Other than that, it’s pretty good (and that’s an issue specific to my dog). This food is definitely a loaf, it’s very dry. I add water to get it to more of a pate consistency.

I’ve read many of the negative reviews and I’ve not had the same negative experience that some of you had. I will say that when it ones to wet canned food, it all depends in where you buy it because if it is not kept in a temperature controlled environment, it can become rock hard or like a liquid milk shake. Yuk.My 11 yr old dog had several bladder stones removed and must remain on a Urinary Diet. My Vet gave me 3 cans of the Hills Urinary canned food and I ever thought my dog would eat it. I mixed it with some of the Dry Urinary diet and he loves it!His sibling who has no health issues and is extremely finicky has been eating it and loves it as well. This is my first time purchasing from Chewey so we’ll see how it goes once I receive order. Hopefully all will ... Our dogs were prescribed this food by VCA, but they do not like it at all. It's like moist/dry clay, and smells horrible. It also gives them diarrhea for days! Went back to regular food, but I have 2 cases of this extremely expensive food that I cannot use. The vet has prescribed 3 different Hills foods (Sensitive stomach, sensitive stomach and skin, and urinary care). They all seem to not do what they're supposed to do, or they make our dogs sick and mess all over the house at night.
I only ordered this because her regular food (chicken with vegetable stew) is out of stock. My dog has to have urinary care dog food. I think Hill is having issues since no one else has her regular food either. The chicken I substituted is extremely dry and unappetizing. My dog doesn't like it and I have to add vegetable broth to get her to eat it. Not a Chewy issue but flagging for others who may not have tried this food. I know that other dogs may love it but mine doesn't
My dog was put on the Hills C/D food by her vet after being diagnosed with a UTI and struvite bladder stones. She needs to eat this for a month to dissolve the stones while being treated for the UTI. She eats 2 cans a day, so an expensive meal plan, but still less expensive and less invasive than surgery. At first she ate the chicken pate and the chicken stew version and was doing fine, but after a few cans she decided she didn't like the pate anymore. It's a low protein, higher fat food but dry and crumbly out of the can. Even softening it up with warm water and microwaving it couldn't peak her interest. At least she will still eat the chicken stew, with coaxing. However, I now have nearly a case and a half of this pate that she hates. I even tried to bake treats ... My dog is on a urinary diet prescription dog food for his urinary stones. I always order CD urinary food from chewy for his prescription food. This time the food is the can is hard as a rock the first can of the case I opened. So I threw it out and opened another one and it's the same. The food is hard as a rock and almost impossible le to get out of the can. I'm not sure if that means the food is bad but threw it out and will return the rest of the unopened cans. I usually order the chicken. Qne vegetables flavor of this food and not the plain chicken flavor CD urinary food. But it was out-of stock.I will return this and wait for the chicken and vegetables flavor to come back In stock. Because this food is unedible for my dog.
I’ve been feeding this to my dog for over a year. She never gets too excited about it, but she eats it. Not anymore!!The last case I bought seems different, right down to the new lid design. The texture is dry and crumbles when i spoon it out.The bottom line is that my dog refuses to eat it now no matter what toppings i add.I called Hill’s Customer Service today and was told what I think is a cockamamie story about freezing temperatures and blankets that failed to keep the cans at the right temperature in the warehouse. Hmm, I’d expect better quality control of a big business manufacturing a food product. So, I was assured that my comments would be bumped up to Quality Control, but that I couldn’t talk to them myself because ‘they’re not trained to deal with the ... (?)I’m hoping the vet can suggest another food to control stones and UTI’s. Something with cleaner ingredients.
We have a 6 year old female cocker spaniel that was recently temporarily placed on this C/D food. We were feeding her farmers Dog food which she absolutely loves so needing to change her food even for a temporary basis was of concern. Out of our two dogs she is so picky. We initially purchased this food from our Vet to try it and Wow! Molly love the food and can't wait till her next feeding in the evening. The dog food is very dry in the can so I cut it up and add a little warm water to it. I give her half a can in the morning and the other half at night. So far she appears to be doing great.
This expensive-prescription canned dog food was unacceptable. The pate was so hard and dry, it is difficult to get out of the can. It required cutting with a knife. Then because it is very dry it crumbles . Although we tried to mix it with the regular stew formula we still had left, our dog also had some stomach issues. In addition the packaging was inconvenient- no pull tab. Chewy was great about returning and there’s a credit pending (we will get credit when it is received/returned) Our regular Hills prescription food has been out of stock/unknown when it will be available. We had to switch to another prescription brand.
