My cat has a predictable “MO”. She ate the first 2 cans of this so I was overjoyed, but that was it. She had just gone through a period of not eating or going to the bathroom. After applying some medication to her ears, she started eating again and our vet prescribed this food, but unfortunately this food gives her diarrhea. She quit eating it and is only eating dry food now. I tried to save money and bought a 24-can case, but this never seems to work out. I’m sure there are other people with “finicky” cats, but this just drives me crazy. Hopefully, she’ll finally stick with the dry food. This review is by no means “panning” this cat food. The older my cat gets, the more trouble I have finding food that pleases her.

Our vet prescribed i/d wet and dry in April due to one cat having intermittent diarrhea with no medical cause. All 6 cats have been eating (and loving) this food since we started them on it. Lately, the wet food has been inconsistent - some of the cans contain food with a very soupy texture. The food literally just slides out of the can. At first, it was random cans within a single case. Then I got a full case from Chewy and a case from our vet that were entirely soupy. I did contact Hill's, who assured me in a very generic e-mail that the soupy-textured food is safe for consumption. I don't feel comfortable feeding them from those cans. I will continue to feed the cats the food from the "normal" cans that I have left, and have asked my vet for recommendations for a ... I'd still recommend this food because all 6 cats are doing great and they enjoy it, just be cautious with the inconsistency! So 4 stars - only because of the change in consistency. Otherwise, this has been a 5 star food in our house!

This food is great when it's not in a can that has had the seal broken. I feed two to four cans of this each day, so I go through a case pretty quickly. The case that I'm in right now, the bottom row doesn't even have labels on them and the cans are BADLY dented. Not all of the damaged cans are unusable; some of them are still well sealed. However I'm throwing away between one and three cans per case. Chewy, are you intentionally buying damaged cases, or is Hill's sending you bad product? It's apparent from some of the other reviews and photos that this is a wide-spread issue. BTW, I feed several other types of Hill's Science Diet canned and I have never had problems with those. Recently switched to this food and my cat was happy with it. Then suddenly with the last shipment I noticed that the consistency was soupy and chunky - not smooth. I tried to mash the chunks with a fork and noticed the texture was coarse, as if sand were in the mix. Anyway, my cat will not even lick this food now. I luckily had other cans of food leftover - a different brand digestive care - that she's eating just fine. I know that Chewy will let me return the 2 cases, but it's still a hassle when I dont have the packaging anymore. I did not expect this experience from this brand and at this price point.
My vet prescribed this for my cat. This shipment was not the same as previous. Opened the can and it immediately gave off a bad smell. The color is gray and it was mushy. It normally does not smell bad (for cat food), is usually a brownish color and is firm. After trying the third can in the 24, all the same gray disgusting slop, and my cat refused to eat, I have returned it. Now I am faced with a dilemma. Order more? Right now I’m struggling with what to feed my cat! This product is too expensive to have this issue.
My cat was very sick recently w/a bacterial liver infection & pancreatitis. The vet told me she’d have to eat the I/D Digestive canned food. He gave me a sample can. It looked like regular pate canned food. She loved it. I ordered it from chewy & it had a wet, mushy texture. The 1st ingredient listed on the can is WATER. She has to eat this food, it’s expensive and something in Hill’s recipe has changed. She’s eating less of it now. They need to stop whatever change they’ve made.
First of all, the food is fine, my cat eats it but the price is outrageous. The reason for 3 stars is with the way it is packed by Chewy employees. For such an expensive food, you would think a little care would be taken instead of putting the case in a box a little too big with no cardboard lid on the case or any air bags, paper, really anything to help to keep it from banging around. For once, no cans were popped or severely dented BUT each can’s lid has a star shaped dent in it from banging on each other. I’ve returned many dented cans in the past and each time I’m reassured the complaint would be passed on. Sure. Things just don’t change.
I opened the can and it was not right. Watery red brown liquid surrounded segmented clumpy meat that was red pink in the middle. It did not smell right either. It went straight to the bin. Happy to upload a photo. We haven't had any previous problems with this food and our 13year old IBD cat, on medication eats it and has put on some weight so I still recommend the product. My Tabby kitty spent her first year of life in a shelter in a small cage. She had a respiratory infection when I adopted her which she now suffers with in her Senior years periodically. Recently she started vomiting after eating or she would have explosive diarrea. My vet recommended trying this food. I was very surprised that she ate it pretty quickly after switching her to it. The vomiting and diarrhea subsided and as long as I make sure she eats ONLY this food she does well. She was used to her to getting cat treats as well as small nibbles of bland table food and Friskies canned food and dry Purina Indoor cat food and ate that for years with no issue. She can no longer do that. This food is a life saver for my kitty..
My cats have eaten this food everyday for a few years and very happily. One cat is a rescue and has had a difficult stomach issue. This last case they are not eager to eat. They do come back later but they never really finish it. They used to eat every last bit right away. There has been some change to the formula and they don't like it as much. (I do feed them other types as well and they continue to love their other food. For the price I'm now paying I'm disappointed by this change.
