Goes mouldy. Note: My review is based on purchasing the item, not a bunch sample I bought a block of this cheese and before we could use it, mould had grown within the unopened package. I returned it to Woolworths who replaced it, saying that there must have been a small whole in the packaging allowing air in. Unfortunately the second block also turned mouldy not long after opening. I personally don’t believe that this cheese is left to mature sufficiently. I have bought this cheese many times in the past but my recent experience has left me disappointed. I wonder if it is now being sourced from a different supplier?Sadly I won’t be buying this cheese any more as it is wasteful to have to throw so much of it away.

Basic but good value. Update Jan 2021. I have been buying Bega Strong and Bitey for ages now as I'm not using as much cheese as I used to when I received a sample of Hillview. I am not as much of a fan as I was - the texture is very soapy and the flavour very mild. If you use a lot if cheese for children or teenagers this cheese will do as it is cost effective but if you are looking for a proper "tasty" cheese this is not it. I am going to struggle to use the 1 kilo block up as even in a cheese sauceas you can tell it is an inferior product Original reviewThis is not a cheese for a cheeseboard but is good for kids cheese sandwiches, toasties, pizza, cooking, etc. Its a mild version of tasty with slightly soapy texture but is perfectly palatable. GREAT VALUE PRODUCT. I have bought and used this product before it became a product for review. I think it is a great tasty cheese, and a wonderful size. I use it is sandwiches or salad plates and it very good for grating and heating for use in dishes like lasagne instead of other cheese. It has a healthy "bite" to it, not bland, and is not crumbly when you slice it, so it is good on biscuits with other toppings for a snack. I love that is does not have any preservatives in it and will continue to buy this product, it is a great family size block. Everyone in my household loves. Tastes better than some more expensive cheeses.

Tasted OK, good texture and value for money, but made in NZ. I grew up on a dairy farm. I used to help Mum milk our cows before and after school and on weekends and holidays too. I had to help Mum drag the heavy cream can to the front gate and lift it up into the cream stand for collection. All our milk and cream went to NORCO and to this day I always buy NORCO milk. Unfortunately NORCO doesn't make the variety of cheeses they used to, so I always buy other good Aussie cheeses. This Hillview Cheese tasted OK but I prefer a much stronger tasty cheese. I mainly used it on toasties and to cook with because I found it was too bland for a snack on a dry biscuit, etc. It was good value if that's your thing, but given the bush fires, droughts and floods that our farmers ... MoreTasted OK, good texture and value for money, but made in NZ. Not so Tasty. I found that this Hillview Tasty cheese while it did have a smooth nice flavour it really wasn't as strong of a taste as I would have liked it to be. I like my tasty cheeses to be a bit more tasty and have a little bit of a flavour than what this one did. We cut some up and had it with crackers and yes it was good and for sure not over powering but just lacked that extra taste that all of us were expecting it to have. Later on that evening we grated some and melted it on top of some bruschetta which with the extra toppings made the whole meal very nice. The packing was good and the product was very fresh as well. Would I buy this one again in the future? I might have to pass and go with one with a bit more flavour next time.

Good sized value. Large block, almost too large for us, prefer a smaller size, however, good for grating on top of Shepard’s pie for eg. Would be concerned it could go mouldy before I finished it.... Had a long expiring date, almost 7 months from nowhealth star rating not the best. 1. 5 ..... vegetarian symbol means nothing to me, would not persuade me to buy / not buy. Made in NZ interesting, not Australian brand .... source of calcium written on label, we all know cheeses are that I would hopeprefer a more tastier sharper cheese in smaller block, great for families who eat a lot of cheese

It's alright. I bought this cheese when I did my shop as my extra tasty cheese block was out of stock I've had it shredded in my spaghetti bolognese last night for dinner & sliced in my salad sandwich for lunch today, I also like having slice's of it on it's own although my extra tasty cheese is still my favourite this is alright, it makes it hard to shred it being a 1kg block would like to see these in 500g block's if I've to purchase them-I won't buy the pre-packaged shredded cheese when I can easily do it myself, it's priced at $9 for a 1kg (estimate) block & nicely packaged.

Great value. Our household goes through a lot of cheese and it is not exactly the cheapest thing to buy. We have it for breakfast, lunch & dinner! I am always looking to buying the one on special or best value for money. This large block is one of the best value due to price & size. We also buy the grated bags of cheese in this brand as well. Okay so it is not your Cracker Barrel or Mersey Valley for taste but for an everyday cheese on sandwiches, stirred into sauces or grated over a meal it is perfectly fine. I’m not going to be putting this on a cheese board but it certainly is perfect for every day meals. Happily buy this product

A lovely mild cheese. This is my favourite cheese by far. I am not a fan of strong cheese so this is perfect for me. Not only is the price great $8. 00 for a kilo but it is so easy to slice and the ideal size for fitting corner to corner on your bread. This is great on a cheese platter and makes delicious toasties or just on its own. I love the flavour and the texture and will continue to purchase. It does not last very long in my house. For those that like a mild cheese I would recommend 100%

Mild taste. I bought a big block of this earlier in the year as it was a low price. I was hoping to find an alternative cheese to my usual brand, whilst saving money. The cheese was very mild compared to my usual brand. I grated it and used it in lots of things, sauces, scones, lasagna, cubed for crackers. Its an okay product if your budget is tight and you don’t mind a milder tasting cheese, but for me the cheese was too mild. I haven’t bought this cheese a second time.
