The memory on this printer is total trash. I never know when it's going to work, sometimes it'll work by actual accident, but then when I need it - crickets. Sometimes turning it off and on again will do the trick and I'll get my document to pop out, but more often than not I end up going to my husband's office to get what I need. I would love to return it, but I fear it's been too long at this point. The scan feature is clunky, the coloring isn't great, overall, I don't think I'll ever buy another HP product after this experience. I feel totally burned, do yourself a favor - avoid this one!

I have owned and used HP printers for nearly 40 years. I purchased this printer a few days ago and had it delivered to my home. It was intended to replace an HP multifunction printer I had been using in my home office for about 6-7 years. It arrived on Jan. 17 and I spent about 3 hours on Jan. 18 trying to get it set up. The HP Smart app was a total disaster -- crashed multiple times, wouldn't connect to the printer, I uninstalled and reinstalled it twice. I finally got it to connect briefly and to print a test page but the printer would only print in black & white. I then placed a color photo on the platen glass and made a color copy. The colors were completely wrong -- nowhere close to the colors on the photo. The printer itself would not connect to my WiFi (the ... MoreI have owned and used HP printers for nearly 40 years. In short, I was completely disappointed in this product and the HP Smart app. I packed the thing up and returned it to my local Sam's store this morning. I've ordered a Brother and will never purchase another HP printer.

No problems setting up via keypad and network PSA.My Vue Scan software is far more effective than HP software although the HP software does work OK. It Just lacks features in orientation and scan control settings.Colour is off; too much blue and there is no way to adjust colour whatsoever. Why factory colour cannot be better balance beats me. With all the sophistication HP are capable of there seems no excuse. I suspect it is marketing as intentionally sloppy colour may encourage consumer to consider more pricey options. Problem is there is no way to test colour prints at retailers or online before you buy.One must rely on consumer feedback. That said, the colour coverage and detail is good and acceptable to the casual observer but not if you want your print ... MoreNo problems setting up via keypad and network PSA.My Vue Scan software is far more effective than HP software although the HP software does work OK. I wanted an all in one laser printer because often I don't print for days and inkjet printer clog up when not used. I'm very pleased with this printer and by far Sam's has the best price. Print, copy, fax, and scan works very will. I'm not interested in wireless printing so I never used that. I have always used a USB cable and that is I hooked it up. However, since all the other features work very will, I assume wireless works. The only thing, if you use the document feeder, don't use paper that has been folded. Make copies first and then place the copies in the document feeder and you will not have any problem. The printer includes the program Readiris so if you have a document you can scan the document into MS Word or other formats that you can edit. It works ... MoreI wanted an all in one laser printer because often I don't print for days and inkjet printer clog up when not used. Ive had it with messy ink cartridges and clogged printheads. Bought this color Laserjet because HP has made durable laser printers for decades. Im still using a 15 year old HP1320 monochrome laserjet, and hope this M479 lasts as long. Replacement toner cartridges are a bit spendy, but well worth it to be rid of inkjet printers. Copying and scanning work well a great multifunction color printer
Our office recently made this big purchase as the company is slowly growing. Weve gone through many HP printers and finally decided to invest in a bigger printer that would be great for faxes. Its only been 2 weeks and there has been no issues with our fax. The quality of the prints are unmatched. The toner is on the more expensive side but I do feel we are saving a lot more money now than we did with Inkjet printers.
This printer replaced an older inkjet printer that was showing its age. Poor printing and finally clogged nozzles. Print quality is great of course its a laser printer color is a plus for classroom handouts. Print speed is much better. Areas of improvement would be speed of scanning documents just scanned 150 pages and it took a while. This is our initial assessment so hopefully it meets our expectations for the next few years.
I purchased this printer a year ago and it performed well as a copier, wired printer, and wired fax, but I frequently experienced connectivity issues on the wireless capabilities. Several weeks ago, it was struck by lightening through my high speed internet modem, and the communication functions were destroyed, even though it would still power up. After realizing a substantial price increase in this equipment and reading some poor reviews, I was undecided about replacing with the same model. I eventually elected to replace with the same model, as I had costly unused toner cartridges that were compatible with this unit. The connectivity issue seems to be resolved with the replacement equipment. The connectivity issue seems to be resolved with the replacement equipment. It was easy to connect, worked properly immediately, and has stayed connected since setup approximately one week ago. Laser print quality is superb. I use as a light duty printer (100-300 pages per month) in a home office business.
I Spent forever trying to get this thing on the wifi. They have a phone which should be simple. It's not. When you have issues getting the app to find the printer it send you to their website. Then their website sends you to their app. Pathetic that they don't have a decent setup. The main problem is secure networks do not offer WPS. WPS is the only way to setup WIFI on this outdated printer.
avoid this model; multiple issues; searched online for help, drivers etc, poor color quality photos plus cannot really adjust with their programing, also smeared photos, no auto duplex and manual is a nightmare to use ( plus who wants to be jumping up ad down all the time); control panel is 'dark' - cannot see without a flashlight, ' not what I would expect' print options when you do a job; crashed my computer - i was afraid it had killed it -- lucky it did not; continually saying i am 'off line ' when i am not, then have to try to get answers, fixes to remedy problem over and over again; keeps dropping wireless connection; could not find a number to call for help from hp that i didn't suspect was bogus - and bots don't make it for online help, and i surely don't ... Moreavoid this model; multiple issues; searched online for help, drivers etc, poor color quality photos plus cannot really adjust with their programing, also smeared photos, no auto duplex and manual is a nightmare to use ( plus who wants to be jumping up ad down all the time); control panel is 'dark' - cannot see without a flashlight, ' not what I would expect' print options when you do a job; crashed my computer - i was afraid it had killed it -- lucky it did not; continually saying i am 'off line ' when i am not, then have to try to get answers, fixes to remedy problem over and over again; keeps dropping wireless connection; could not find a number to call for help from hp that i didn't suspect was bogus - and bots don't make it for online help, and i surely don't want to email for an answer and 'wait;' not sure what the 24 hour web help is -- unless they are talking their BOT HELP or community which also is no help! also ,, i think they got rid of some of their nice extras ( at least from what i read online, even though you can still find the links , beware of using them ). i downloaded a million fixes, drivers , and spent a million hours trying to make the thing work on a consistent basis; when it started shooting out multiple pages of garbage, I finally gave upi have owned many hp products that i was very satisfied with 'in the past' but this is not one of them -- and of course that was before the junk manufacturing era of throw away products of todaywant repeat customers - make quality products, and you will get good reviews and people will have confidence in your other name brand products and you will still profit even if you do not sell another printer right away to the same person - but you will to their friends!
