First off, packaging was standard JBL style. Nicely done and left me feeling it was something higher end. I never really had a use for a microphone before as the standard ones on laptops and cell phones were good enough in my opinion. But upon using it to video chat with some friends and family, i did not suffer with not being heard at times. I admit to mumbling, but even that should be heard. I don't game online or stream things. Honestly, my online presense is boring. Product quality is nice. Not like super high end feeling with crazy materials, but nice enough to stand up to some oops scenarios. Setup was easy. Plugged in the unit and my laptop picked up on it. I never really thought to have a microphone before, but the product did change my mind.

It was very easy to install and connect to the PC, just plug and play. My son don't need any help. He used the microphone for gaming and for his YouTube videos. To turn it on and off you just have to tap on the top and the colored ring at the bottom will show you green - on or red - off.My husband tried the microphone also for telephone conferences at work. Luckily, the base-stand is already configured, so there's nothing you have to put together - plug-n-play, plain and simple.Included is strong a 6-ft. USB to USB-C power cable. Once plugged in, you notice that an LED light as the base of the microphone (but not the stand) which turns green. It gives a nice glow that will fit the vibe of any gamer or regular streamers' room.On the front of the microphone, there is a knob which controls volume of the gain input and the volume which in turn controls the brightness of the LED light. Basically put, the louder the volume, the brighter the light. The knob, which is also a button, clicks and when clicked changes the color of the LED light. For me, when I would click it, I would see the color change momentarily, but it would always revert back to green which seems to be it's default color for when the mic is hot (live). The button also serves as a funtion when held for approximately 1-2 seconds to switch between cardiod and omnidirectional. (*My demo video was set to cardiod only; I tested the omnidirectional setting after uploading my video).The mic itself feels solid and made of a durable material, yet it's lightweight and sturdy. I find it to be the perfect height and width as it's not too bulky for my recording space. Along the bottom of the mic, there is a headphone jack and the USB power port. Part of me initially wished that the USB port had been on the back, but I've grown (since my recording) to like it's position as I now find it to not be in the way.It was truly plug-n-play for me - I think my PC may have taken a moment to install a driver like it typically would for any newly recognized device, but nothing long or unordinary. Upon turning on my recording DAW (digital audio workstation), I was able to choose this mic as my recording input device and immediately test this baby out. I spoke as far back as about 18 inches to getting right upon the mic, to speaking into the side and to the back of it, too (on the cardiod setting). All of this was without a pair of headphones plugged into it, too, by the way; so with that said, me turning the knob which controls the volume had no bearing on my recording since I wasn't using it as an output with headphones - which I think had a bearing on the color of the LED light continuously reverting back to green during my initial test.I discovered upon playback that the ideal distance from the mic to speak into it would be between 3 to 6 inches back, depending on how loud you're projecting. If you have a loud, carrying voice, maybe 6 to 10 inches back would be ideal for you.Sound-wise, I personally loved the clarity of the mic as well as the low-end. My natural speaking voice isn't the deepest, but even my lower speaking register gave a nice, warm tone when I played it back, without sounding muffled. I think for live-streaming or for a podcast that the sound of this mic is impeccable. I love listening to podcasts during my down-time and this mic makes me feel confident that if I wanted to jump into that industry today that I wouldn't have to seach for the "right mic" because I've already got such a top contender, sound-wise.Testing out the omnidirectional setting, it truly does capture a consistent sound no matter which direction you speak into it from, which I found to be convenient. This would hold well for a multi-person ran podcast if needed without having to invest in multiple mics for each person.The top of the microphone, to my surprise, is a mute button. Looking at it, you'd have absolutely no idea. I myself didn't know until I read the manual and tested it. There's no 'click' sound - you sort of just tap it and you'll see the LED light turn red to indicate that the mic is cold/muted.Also, sound-wise, the environment I recorded in was an almost silent room and the mic picked up no distortion or unusual ambiance sound - it captured the normal sound of 'dead air' I'd expect any mic to pick up, so I was happy about that.All in all, I give this mic a 10 out of 10. I've used many a mics in my time, and I have zero faults with this one. The sound is clear and warm-sounding and works for the intentions as made by JBL. When I tested it with my favorite pair of headphones (the JBL Club 950NC), it sounded marvelous.Great job, JBL - you've done it again!

As someone who works in IT, remotely from home - you can never have too many or too good of a microphone (or speakers, etc). I think most of us have had that person or coworker speaking over the phone or in a meeting and they sound like they are in a fishbowl or 300 feet away - no issue there with this microphone.I typically enjoy the build quality of JBL products - not much different here, it is solid (won't tip over easy) - with a metal base that is padded and can swivel. Can't really ask for much else with a microphone of this style.It is a little on the big side for my taste - but I have OCD and enjoy as clutter free of desktop real estate as I can get (hence monitors on monitor arm).The LED light is a nice touch and can be changed - not much to report ...
