This one replaces my last one which developed a pin ***** hole and had some leaking when filtering but would not try anything else. 1 litre generally gets you 800 ml of filtered water and doesn’t get you 1 litre as water accumulates around the filter and doesn’t easily squeeze out

Good product, easy to use. Filled all the lads water bottles using the Katadyn BeFree.Quick, portable, does the job. Water going in was pretty clean Mt snow melt in Sth Is NZ, so not high risk, but better safe than sorry for remote area hikes.5 Star

After some research, settled on the Katadyn system. My first use was out on the trails. It was so easy, quick and simple. I love it. Allowed me to refill my water bladder, rehydrate and keep going longer. Can't recommend them product highly enough.The service from Oz Backcountry was equally impressive. The product I was looking for at a reasonable price, good quick shipping.
Easy to use. Enough volume for everybody. Only need this filter amongst an entire group. Hang it from a tree and everyone can fill up and still have lots leftover. Simply dunk it to refill and its ready to go again. Just dump it out when packing up and its ready to put away. Would recommend for any group trip. Canoe, backpacking, you name it.
I have tried many gravity filters over the years and the BeFree blows them all away. Way faster flow, far easier to clean (just shake the filter full of water restores flow rate) and half the weight and size. Really like how the quick release attaches direct to my hydration bladders to refill them on backpacking trips and even all day Mtn Bike rides!
Used this for six days in Algonquin. Really great to set and forget, assuming you have a reservoir that stands or can be suspended to receive the filtered water. It kept four adults well hydrated on top of coffee, oatmeal, rice, etc..Only downside is that with the the turbidity of most Ontario lakes, filtration speed drops dramatically after about 5L. It's very manageable: You just need to commit about 250mL of each filtration run to cleaning the filter either with the swish or cup method. But it is worth knowing ahead of time.
After using pumps, chemicals, and other methods for many years, this gravity filter wins hands down for speed and ease. It's literally an on-demand solution - fill the bag in a river or lake, hang it up, and clean water literally pours out the other end whenever you want. There's no waiting, and it's just fast enough to fill big pots, bottles, and reservoirs without being annoying.Our family used to use a 4L MSR Dromedary, but the 6L bag saves a few trips to the water source and is still small and light enough for backpacking for a group of around 4 people. Great price as well - this is a good value!

I carry a small 1L BeFree bottle anyway which uses the identical filter element and so provides a backup filter for the gravity unit, (though I have not needed to use it as such.) Works great with a HydraPak for a clean water reservoir. I use a pair of 3L HydraPak seeker bottles to receive the filtered water and can quickly provide six liters of filtered water to my team. The Katadyn filter hose includes a quick connect fitting that connects with the HydraPak plug-n-play fitting for quick and easy connections and receiving water container swaps. We bought this to utilize in the BWCA. As a family of four, it was our main source of clean water while we were up there. Unfortunately after running 15 gallons of very clear water with no visible sediment this filter reduced to a trickle after gallon 15 and then only drops when attempting to fill up the the five gallon water container for the fourth time. You cannot count on this filter setup for any prolonged hiking or wilderness adventure. Very disappointed in Katadyn and this product. If the other group we were camping with would not have been a long, we would have all been sucking out of a life straw for the last 3 Days of our trip..... there's gotta be a solution to make this right.....this filter isn't it.
