The old gel formula was my holy grail, so I was super bummed it was discontinued. I gave this formula a shot after a convo with a kiehls employee assuring me it would be just the same - even better! This product is terrible. It’s incredibly waxy and hard, never truly dissolves, and after 3 uses it breaks me out in a full red rash from forehead to chin. Since the product is so thick it takes up to 48 hours for the reactions to settle down and I’m left with patchy rough skin. I finally figured out this was the culprit in my routine and am beyond disappointed. This skincare is an investment for me considering the price tag. Kiehls is close to losing me as a customer all together.

I actually really love this mask, and it is one of the very few that don't cause breakouts for me. I have super dry skin usually, so sometimes when I apply this, I have a quick second of the burn, which fades within a minute. That's usually how I can tell when my skin is EXTRA dry. If I'm doing well with my skincare, general hyrdration, and its not too cold/dry out, I do not get the burn. I can leave this on for hours and it does not bug. A lot of people mentioned this being clumpy, but it's made to be that way. Just like you would with expensive moisturizers, make sure to rub this between two fingers before applying to heat up. Anyways, I love the chunk! It's different and feels like a natural mud mask. Glad they didn't overly water this down to make it more liquidy.

In my never ending, years long quest to find anything even close to the best moisturizer ever, (I’ve now come to accept that it has actually been discontinued, so, so angry), Kiehl’s Creme d’Elegance, I tried a sample of this. Yes, it’s a weird consistency at first, but rubbing it between my fingers softened it right up. It still isn’t even as close to the magic of the best moisturizer on the planet, HOWEVER, adding a few drops of Trader Joe’s Marula Face Oil to the mix creates a super rich moisturizer which is as close to Creme d’Elegance as I’ve been able to conjure. I wash my face with cleanser, first, before applying this product.I also enjoy the fact that this is very much a “put it on and not worry about it” type of cream. And with this I unfortunately just can't get past the consistency - it's very thick, almost like petroleum jelly and just sits on the surface of my skin. I'm used to sleeping on my side but once this is on I just dare not as it will end up all over my pillowcase. I had been using the Laneige sleeping mask, but it just wasn’t up to the task of dealing with my even dry over since it’s winter in Wisconsin skin. Enter this little jar of miracles. No more scaly skin when I wake up or little bits flaking off throughout the day. Wind chapped cheeks are no match for this as it sooths and smooths.The texture is a bit odd at first reminding me of putty in consistency and smell. Once I had it in my hands it quickly began to soften and it melted into my skin as I applied it. This definitely isn’t something where they are using a naturally fragrant ingredient and calling it fragrance-free since it doesn’t have a chemical “fragrance” added. This is truly fragrance-free so there is nothing scenting the product in any way. I can see why that could be an issue if you want your products to smell good; however, if like me, you are super sensitive to smells (I couldn’t last an hour in the Fresh rose sleeping mask because it was just too overpowering) than this just may be the mask for you.
