I bought this to make my own flours for baking. I have tried using it mostly for oat flour so far, starting with old fashion rolled oats. The process is painfully slow! It takes forever to get 1 cup of oats ground and the kitchenaid motor gets quite warm in the process. The flour was no better than what I was getting in the blender in a fraction of the time. The grinder is also difficult to clean and takes much longer than cleaning a blender. I will probably never use again.

I purchased the grain mill attachment for my mixer. 1st time using it I was a little disappointed in the operation. I since then have created a small table to set my bowl on so flour does not spread. I also have adjusted to the speed of the mill. I don't want to run it too fast and heat the flour up & destroy nutrients. This really is the perfect size for me and my needs. It is sturdy and well made. Easy to take apart and clean. Easy to attach & detach from the machine.

I was very excited when I received the email saying I’d been selected to test the KitchenAid Classic Grain Mill. I really wanted to love this product as much as I love my other Kitchenaid tool. However, I can only say that it disappointed me. The KitchenAid Classic Grain Mill. was loud, slow and didn’t produce a good quality flour. It took 3 or 4 passes to get an acceptable grind but nowhere fine enough for baking. It is also a pain to clean as a lot of grain or particles get stuck.

KGM Grain Mill Used on 325 Watt Artisan Stand Mixe
28 January 2021

I've had my stand mixer 15 years, have loved it EVERY DAY! I recently purchased by the KGM Grain Mill for my Artisan 325 watt stand mixer, as I wanted to start making my own rice flour. I already own other attachments that I absolutely love, as I eat a gluten free diet and the spiralizer and planer help me transform veggies in a way that they can be substituted for pasta in meals. When the Grain Mill arrived, I was SO excited. I followed the instructions and then put one cup of rice in the hopper. I turned it on, a scant amount of flour came out (about a teaspoon), then nothing. the motor was running, but none of the parts were moving any longer. I took the mill off, emptied it, took it apart, nothing was lodged in there. I put it all back together, turned it on. ... MoreI've had my stand mixer 15 years, have loved it EVERY DAY! Nothing works now... not even the mixer. I thought, "Did this grain mill kill my stand mixer in mere seconds?" I called customer service to explain what happened. The response was that they would offer a discount on a new mixer. I've already invested close to $800 in Kitchenaid products over the past 15 years... and this is how it ends? Kitchenaid expects me to give them more business? And, if I were to buy a new stand mixer from Kitchenaid, how do I know that the same thing won't happen again? Can Kitchenaid provide substantiated evidence that the grain mill attachment does, in fact, work with the 325 watt Artisan Kitchenaid mixer? As far as I'm concerned, I've just had a $800 lesson. I am an avid baker and cook, I relied on this machine several times a week. The benefit of the accessories were that it was ONE appliance, in lieu of buying separate appliances for mixing, spiralizing, planing and milling grain. So, not only am I now out of a mixer, but I also have $400 worth of accessories that are of NO use to me. I can't express how disappointed this makes me.. .my heart has sunk. I cannot in good conscience continue to support this company if all that's offered to a longtime customer is "a discount" on a new mixer. This is not way to do business, if you want to keep your customers. BTW - on the website, it clearly states that this KGM Grain Mill "fits all Kitchenaid Stand Mixers". Well... while it may be true that it 'Fits', it should be revised to say, "it fits all Kitchenaid Stand mixers, but we cannot guarantee that it will not cause your Artixan stand mixer to cease to function from that point onward".

Kitchenaid Flour mill attachment.

I purchased this appliance to have freshly ground flour available for making pizza dough. We have a number of Kitchenaid appliances including our stand mixer, and have always thought they were good quality. I have used it several times and found that even on the finest grind level I had to put the flour through twice to achieve a fine enough grind. It is easy to set up and clean. So far I am quite happy with it. It does get a bit warm after grinding 4-6 cups of grain but it is not an issue unless you insist on “cold stone ground” flour. The fresh flour definitely makes better and richer tasting pizza dough.

Overall I can recommend this attachment. I milled 6 cups wheat berries. It took awhile to mill all of it approx 45 minutes including a break to let the motor and the grain mill cool down. I used the smallest mill size. I would not recommend that you run the mixer on 10. When I baked the bread it was gritty, not unpleasant though. I believe if you only wanted flour every once in a while this would be great. But if you plan on baking regularly get a stand alone mill.

Sweet grinding action

So I went and bought some wheat in bulk, imagine my chagrin when I realized that it was still whole! I though to myself, how can I make this berry into flour? I thought about making my own stone mill but I don't live close enough to a river. Went to may fav store and bought this badboy, it made my huge wheat into powdered wheat and now I am happy

Waste of money

Extremely loud and slow. It takes forever to finely grind flour from grain. You have to pause to let it cool down because it heats your grains which will destroy the motor of your kitchenaid and defeat the purpose of grinding fresh flour as it denatures the proteins and nutrients at that temperature. I have complained to kitchenaid but they can't do anything because the product is inferior to begin with so this slow, loud device is working as intended. I'm an avid home baker and this cannot keep up with me. Read reviews of other grain mills before you make the same mistake I did.

Works better than expected!

I bought this because I can’t afford the spending hand mill and I needed to mill kamut berries. I am surprised that it milled a whole bag of Bob’s Red Mill kamut berries in less than 10 minutes and it wasn’t as loud as people said it was. It milled pretty effortlessly. I thought it was going to be hard on my machine but it didn’t seem to care. I have the 325/375 watt artisan 5 quart model. I still want a hand mill for emergency preparedness but this one is perfect for me. I make about a loaf a week. It is also sturdy and well made.

waste of money
18 August 2018

I bought this and was very disappointed. Waste of money. I used it to grind rice flour and not only did it heat my mixer up so badly that the gears were destroyed but the flour I grinded on the finest setting came out like granules and not powdery like flour. The granules will not absorb the water and make a paste. I have now replace my mixer with a kitchenaid commercial 8 qt mixer because I didn't want a problem with over heating again. I have not used the grain mill again though. I do have also a kitchenaid food processor and love it. It is a beautiful appliance on the counter and well thought out and designed.
