I am reviewing the Kong Genius Leo, which wasn’t an option on here. This thing is SO. DURABLE. It’s probably as durable as a car tire. This is coming from someone whose dog loves to chew everything (including doors and walls). I like to put treats and peanut butter in here and then freeze it before I give it to him when I leave for work. It’s also cute to give to him when he’s bored and watch him toss it around, trying to get the treats out.

The Kong is one of the first things I bought my Akita/GSD mix after her after her adoption 2 years ago and has been her best friend ever since. She typically shows little to no interest in most toys, and on the rare occasion she takes a liking to something it usually doesn’t last long against her jaws of steel. The XL Kong though has stood the test of time so far with hardly any scratches to show for it. Her favorite is when it’s stuffed with frozen peanut butter, while she’s gotten quite strategic with licking it out the large size means it still keeps her busy for hours sometimes trying to clean every last bit of PB from the inside.

This toy is lots of fun! My 60lb Pointer mix has a ball with this toy. The Purina DentalLife small/medium chews fit perfectly in the Large genius. Over time he developed a method, and now it's about a half hour of tossing and chewing fun to get the treat out. They don't last forever. We've been getting about 2 months of daily use out of one. This is usually a supervised activity. So far when they've bit the dust it's been breaking apart at the rings but like others if you have a really aggressive chewer, the material is more brittle than other Kongs. Overall, this is one worth routine replacement here.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!! It is dangerous. I had SUCH high hopes!! I LOVE the Kong hard rubber toys because they DO last long for heavy chewers. I’ve had the pacifier and Kong treat ball through the last four labs and a litter of lab puppies with the puppy size pacifier too! In fact it was SO well loved by every puppy, I sent a new one home with each puppy. This Kong toy was completely chewed up almost to the middle in less than ten mins I was out of the room. With pieces all over the house— then I had to worry that one of my two adult labs had swallowed a part of it. I found out pretty quickly when she threw up parts of it, then had to watch her closely every potty trip for two days to make sure she was pooping ok. As far as the deal, buy one and get another ... MorePLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!! It is dangerous. I had SUCH high hopes!! I LOVE the Kong hard rubber toys because they DO last long for heavy chewers. I have a few of these in both sizes for my malamute puppy. I fill the larger one with kibble and it takes him about 5 minutes to shake it all out. Not exactly a way to keep him busy but it’s a lot better than the 5 seconds it takes him to inhale food from a bowl! It only holds about half a cup so I either refill it or put the rest in another toy. I do use larger kibble and some will still fall out of the large pretty easily. The smaller size is better for treats that he has to crunch up to get. Even at 50lbs, way above the recommended size for the large, his jaws barely make a dent in the large. The material is still pretty thick on the small so he had to learn how to crunch treats on other toys with thinner materials before he figured it out. The material is still pretty thick on the small so he had to learn how to crunch treats on other toys with thinner materials before he figured it out. For smaller pups with smaller kibble the small would be great for slowing fast eaters. Both sizes are great for wet food or wet food mixed with kibble. It can take him hours to get frozen wet food out of the large one. If you pack it full, food does tend to get stuck in the middle. He eventually figured out he had to bite, shake, or drop the toy to dislodge food stuck in the toy. It’s kind of a pain to fill but I find it easier to clean than the classic Kong if you have a thick bottle brush. He’s not an aggressive chewer with these kinds of toys so I’ve not had any durability issues. They slow his eating or keep him busy while I’m gone depending on the filling so I’ll definitely keep them in his rotation!
My pup doesn’t usually destroy any rubberized toys aside from the latex pigs that are flimsy and begging to be gutted. But Kongs and other similar toys from west paw stay looking more or less brand new even with heavy use.I saw the reviews on this but decided my dog isn’t one of those chewers (of this kind of toy) and tried my luck. We have had it a couple of months now but only used it maybe 4x. Today he decided to just chew the side off while laying right next to me and it only took a moment.I wish I had bought a second Qwizle by West Paw instead but I’m always looking for novelty and differences among toys like this to make sure it stays interesting.
Have to thank the postal service now which has improved massively over the last few months, so this arrived in Tassie within 3-days of ordering, as opposed to weeks, nay months, in the past! Our Kelpie had a Blue Kong Genius Mike which she loved and lasted her about a year +. It's a fairly versatile toy in that you can thread a rope through it and use it for tugging or throwing & catching games, or put a little peanut butter around the ends and she would happily chew on it for some time. She will often take it with her at sleep time. Hopefully she'll get as much enjoyment from this orange one as the blue. Thank you!
NOT INTENDED FOR HEAVY CHEWERSSo many of the negative reviews are because their dogs will chew items to pieces, this is NOT the item for you if your dog is like that. The Genius line of Kongs are intended for mental enrichment and entertainment, NOT boredom. While it is a kong brand, it is not the same heavy duty material that the standard/original kongs are. I have had several of this toy for years, and none of my bullies have destroyed them (they also don’t spend hours chewing on toys/random things because they’re bored, that’s just not the kind of animal they are).THIS WORKS BEST WITH KIBBLE, not large treats. My dogs love rolling it around and having pieces of food fall out! They also flip it end over end and get them out that way as well. Our standard dachshund loves to chew (and loves food even more). My hope was that this Kong would be tough enough to last a while. Nothing is indestructible, but my hope was that I’d get a couple months out of this. When we put some treats inside and watched anxiously. The good news is that it took a few hours and almost exhausted our dog, but in the end, she nearly bit off the end. I wasn’t too concerned with the ingestion of the material, but I was bummed that it was sheered off the top and it would not be the durable chew toy I expected.
Our girl loves this toy. It’s perfect for me to just throw some kibble & training treats in for when I don’t have any frozen kongs made and she needs to go in her pen. She loves her other treat dispenser ball, but it is much harder than this one to use in her pen. She is normally a pretty thorough chewer (destroys plush & plastic toys, no squeakers gone unremoved), but she hasn’t tried to destroy this one. Is usually a little bit too difficult for her if we try to put a bone in there, but sometimes she can get it out. Don’t put peanut butter in it though… too hard to clean
