Korg nanoKEY2 Keyboard Controller Black

The product worked fine when I acquired it, however, upon installing the drivers to gain access to the rest of the buttons, which didn't work, the product failed totally. I later found that the device will work if it's bound to one of the first midi ports in Windows, but I already had items bound to those, and the fix was deemed impossible as other devices had already used the rescources for the fix. Luckily I had another midi controller.

I previously owned an Arturia Minilab MK2 25 key which was a great product, but after a couple of years I realized I was rarely using most of the controls. I basically just wanted a small, lightweight and simple controller for writing melodies, bass-lines and programing beats. I've been using this for a few weeks now and absolutely love it! It's actually smaller than I was expecting and has a very slim profile which is perfect for slipping into a laptop bag or backpack and is still quite easy to play. Sure, you won't be using it to compose a symphony or perform complex pieces of music, but it was obviously never designed for that.

Convenient Korg Controller Keyboard.

At the lowest price I could find for a controller keyboard, the Korg nanoKey2 is very impressive. It only has twenty-five keys, but the octave shift buttons allow you to change the octave up and down, giving reach to the full range of notes for electronic music. It has neat pitch bend, sustain, and vibrato buttons, too. It resembles a computer keyboard in the flatness and shape of the keys and is even smaller than a computer keyboard. It works great with my electronic music software. It even picks up musical accent (velocity); so the harder you press the keys, the louder it is, and the softer you press the keys, the quieter it is. It comes with a software code so you can download some electronic music programs from the Internet; so if you do not have music software already, you can get some to use with the nanoKey2. The cable that it comes with stays in the socket very tightly and it will not fall out so easily. This is good so it will not disconnect on accident. Overall, the Korg nanoKey2 is a good buy for being able to listen to, experiment with, and record sounds in audio software without having to use the computer mouse and computer keyboard all the time to program commands and test out sounds. It is light-weight and its slim-line design is very convenient and saves space. It would be good for use with a laptop on the go. I find it a nice addition to my desktop home studio. It is perfect in function for its size. Very neat.

Good for ideas on the go

This is exactly what I need for laying down quick ideas when recording. The keys feel more like a keyboard for typing, but that's fine. The portability and convenience are great.

I absolutely love this thing!

I have had other iOS keyboards. The Akai had a 30 pin connector and would not work with an adapter and required you to take the phone out of the case to use it. My M audio drew too much power and did not run on batteries so I had to plug it in anytime I wanted to use it with my iOS devices. This thing is the most portable device I've ever been able to play real music on! It does not take much to get used to the keys. They are bigger than you think and feel like typing on a computer keyboard. I thought they would be rubber. It's got sustain, Pitch Bend, modulation, and octave keys easily accessible on the front and a simple little light to let you know that it's powered on. Now I can be creative wherever I am! I just had to remove the tray that fits the flute pieces and replace it with some foam. It even fits the cable and the camera kit adapter.

NanoKey2, Excellent for the minimalist.

I've had the Nanokey2 for roughly 3 years. With my experience, The keyboard is excellent for laying down a bass line or adding some synth cords or even adding in some drums using in a production program such as FL Studio. I moved into a house that's probably 400sqft, so Space saving is a must. Ihad an 88 key Kurzweil That i used for midi, but it was too big for the house. this little guy slides away when i don't need it and fits in front of my keyboard when i do. I had to purchase a USB extension to get it there, but after that, It's peachy. I love the fact that it detects pressure for velocity. Also, if you download the Korg software for it, you can edit the buttons! My biggest peeve with this device was that you had to hold the button for sustain, but once programmed with the software, it becomes a toggle instead of having. not only does it work with window, but it works with my S5 Active too! This device is one of the best purchases i've made.

Ok for it's price

I was not overall pleased with this product. The keys are very loose and klunky. Also does not come with any programs to work with - something I got confused by. It's a good size though and once connected with the right program would probably be able to do a decent job for the price that it is. Was expecting the keys to be rubber or something but are just plastic.

Pants to brilliance.

As a keyboard this is absolute pants. Used as a collection point for midi switching such as hauptwerks it's absolutely brilliant. Horses for courses, on the right course this small slim line unit will tick the boxes. If you want to play tunes on it you probably need to get out more. I'm using it for the piston settings in hauptwerks and by far this is a cheap and effective way of doing it.

Portable yes. The keys.. hmm.. well..

This is my second Korg Nano. I owned the first version a few years ago. While awesomely portable, you cannot help but wonder if you nails are going to make the keys pop off. They seem too high and quite flimsy. I would have expected better from Korg to be honest but its the best I can find at the moment. The keys just feel like cheap typical "Scrabble" keys like you'd find on a laptop. Maybe nanoKey3 will be better

Small and light, easy to carry around

This is my first Korg product. I got Korg's all 3 white Slim-Line USB MIDI Controllers. It all started with iMS20 app. I needed small sized midi controllers. Korg's Slim-Line was the perfect choice. Lets describe the product: The nanoKEY2: its very light to carry around, and easily fits in any bag. Great when travelling. The unit and the keys are made out of plastic and have a clean solid feel. I was initially afraid the unit might feel like a toy keyboard, but when I got it I was satisfied with it. I must say that in the pictures the keys appear bigger and wider in size, however in reality they are almost finger-width wide. It will take some practice to get used to. Finally, there are mini buttons on the right: octave(+/-), pitch(+/-), sustain, and modulation (also editable using the Korg editor software to match your DAW software or music app.)
