I've owned at least one Leatherman tool at all times since 1996, when I got my first PST. I still have my Sideclip that was gifted to me 18 years ago. I've owned at least half the models that Leatherman has produced and can say with confidence that the Rebar is a fantastic tool. I've had my current Rebar for 5 years now, and I've beat the hell out of it. I'm on Sheath number 3, because I'm really hard on sheaths.I've used this tool for all it's intended uses and then some. There are weld marks on the pliers now, more dings and scratches than I can count. I've used it as a hammer, which it works well for! I finally managed to put a ding in the hard wire cutter notch about two months ago, after years of cutting hard things. It's still hardly noticeable. This tool ... Now it rides on my belt while I work at my desk day job and into the evenings and weekends, when I run my side business as a handyman. I've dropped it in the snow tons of times, and there isn't a speck of rust on it. I typically clean it once a year, and give it a good oiling with 3in1 oil. The straight blade gets sharpened and stropped about 4 times a year, and I've never sharpened the serrated blade or saw and they're still sharp as a razor. If you're on the fence about buying a Leatherman, don't be. With their excellent reputation build on years of trials, and perfect Customer Service, you can't go wrong. The only choice you have to make is which one to buy. I personally prefer the old box style of the Rebar over the outside accessible tools like the Wave. That's a matter of preference. I will say this: I use my Rebar with gloves and have no problems. My hands are medium to large, but the Surge is too big. The Rebar fits perfectly.

This is a very good every day carry tool. It has replaceable cutters on the needle nose section of the tool and will cut very hard metals. each of the screwdriver bits is very well machined and fits the screws just right. the files are sharp and cut cleanly. The knife edges are superb and I especially like the scalloped blade for cutting cardboard and leather. They keep a very sharp edge even with repeated use and are easey to resharpen.

As this is my second Rebar (the first being confiscated by a TSA agent...totally my fault), I have very little to offer that hasn't already been said about the tool's functionality. It is made very well and performs it's function flawlessly. If you are not familiar with Cerakote, you should understand that it is a metal coating, not a permanent treatment to the metal. It will wear over time. That said, to my knowledge there is no metal coating more wear resistant than Cerakote. Because of the design of the Rebar, the first part that will wear is the top of the handles nearest the pliers head. This is because the opening and closing of the tool causes the two halves to rub against each other. It's a very limited wear area but noticeable. It will happen pretty ... This will take much longer as the rivets are relatively soft.As long as you are prepared for this, the Cerakoted Rebar is a lovely and functional multi-tool.

I have two Rebars. The first one was purchased brand new in original package at full price about 9 months ago. This current one was purchased new, open box at a substantial discount. I also should note that the first one came with the nylon sheath, this latest one came with the leather sheath. For some reason I prefer the nylon. Things I really like about the Rebar: Good set of tools. The ones that are supposed to be sharp are very sharp. You get a plain edge blade, a serrated blade and a saw. Can't ask for much more. All tools lock, even the smaller ones. Unlike most Leatherman multi-tools, the Rebar has an actual 3D Philips head screwdriver with a decent length. That's a huge plus. Unlike most Leatherman multi-tools, the Rebar has an actual 3D Philips head screwdriver with a decent length. That's a huge plus. It's also the right size so it can accept a 1/4" barrel style bit adapter. Major plus right there. Nice plier head with replaceable wire cutter blades. The whole thing feels well built, not too heavy and well balanced in the hand. Also sized right. Not too big, not too small. Things I do not like about the Rebar: Does not have spring loaded pliers. Does not come with a pocket clip. Does not have outside accessible tools. It must be opened to get to anything. Does not have scissors. Lastly, the way that the frame is constructed, the edges can dig into your hand if squeezing hard on the pliers. Lastly, while the current cost is not totally unreasonable, I would be much more comfortable if the retail cost was about $20 less.
This is, oz. for oz. the best multi tool you can own. Has the big, supertool pliers, all the tools you need, they function well, doesnt pull your pants down and is well under 100 bucks. Ive been carrying leathermans since the 80s and have many. This is my favorite, light weight but has everything you need, carry it everywhere. Not as fancy as the others but do you really need a pair of scissors? Only thing I miss is the leather sheath which you can buy once this one wears out.
I am an engineer by profession and currently work for a construction company as a project engineer. Along with my job I have many hobbies and projects. I love the outdoors and try to do all my on work on my vehicles and equipment and always have a host of diy projects around the house. For the past month I have been contemplating a multitool for the small footprint and the ability to carry pliers and screwdrivers at all time. The leatherman tools with the replaceable cutter was a no brainer for me. For my primary blade I carry a Case Trapper and occasionally a kershaw or benchmade so the knife being easily accessible was not a big deal for me. So add all that up and the rebar seemed to be the most bang for my buck. I have owned the tool one week now and I absolutely ... I have owned the tool one week now and I absolutely love it, I have tried to use this for as many tasks as possible and it has performed flawlessly. If I am working on something I leave the tool open in my back pocket for easy access. he only improvement needed on this tool is the addition of a pocket clip. With its small size i think it would be a great addition but its not the big of an issue for me. All in all great tool, I bought the stainless steel rebar I wanted the coyote version of this tool but decided to spend a little less money on the front end to make sure this tool would fit the bill. It has so I see another rebar in my future.
I've considered myself a devoted Leatherman user after 19 years of DAILY use with my Leatherman Supercool (1997). It was a wedding gift and served me brilliantly until it was stolen from my luggage in Munich two months ago.My best friend decided to surprise me with a new Rebar. I was totally impressed, appreciating the extra sharpness of the blades, replaceable plyer cutters and a grip that no longer hurt to squeeze (my only Supercool complaint).Unfortunately I broke the small screw driver tool, prying off some balsa wood that I'd temporarily nailed to the fence I'd just built. This blew my mind because I'd done prying much harder than this with my Supercool with no problem. But from the looks of it, the metal in this Rebar tool seems cheaper, more brittle, like a ... This blew my mind because I'd done prying much harder than this with my Supercool with no problem. But from the looks of it, the metal in this Rebar tool seems cheaper, more brittle, like a cast metal - not like my Supercool steal, which I could see bend but never break.I'd like to know if a warranty would cover this. (Leatherman folk, can you let me know please?) And if the new Supercool 300 also uses this metal. I'd go with whichever is stronger. Thank you.I really hate to write a negative review for Leatherman because I love Leatherman. All those who know me consider me a Leatherman freak. I wore mine everyday for 19 years - even to weddings.
I bought this tool two months ago, to supplement my Leatherman Surge. The Rebar is significantly lighter than the Surge, and cheaper to replace should it disappear overboard. I like the replaceable cutters, good plier ergonomics, but opening a knife blade is most definitely a two handed job, potentially hazardous, and not something to do on the deck of a pitching boat. Remaining tools are well selected - but I miss the replicable saw/file blades of the Surge. My first purchase was a Leatherman Wave, which I bought for my wife in 2000. I also use various rigging knives, Solingen cooks knives, Victorinox knives, and Joseph Roger's Sheffield pocket knives. None of these knives have rusted.I am surprised disappointed that my Rebar has rusted. The file blade is particularly prone, and here, I suspect, the rust is functionally significant. On the opposite side of the Rebar, the saw has a rust stain, and the remaining tools are flecked with rust. For me, rusting is a real "deal breaker", and especially so, since this was completely unexpected. So, despite the good points of which this tool has many, my confidence in Leatherman is shaken. Hence, a minimum rating of one star.
I wrote a review some years ago when my Rebar was new and would like to update it. I still carry my Rebar on my duty belt in my duties as a police officer as well as at home, and have lost track of the number of times it's saved the day. As the years have gone along, it's loosened up ever so slightly, but is still stiff enough to my liking. I can testify first hand to the sharpness of the saw, which cut a nice, deep wound in my knuckle when it slipped from a branch that I was cutting when setting up a tree stand. The knife blade has cut countless snacks open, and does a phenomenal job on a block of cheese! I own a few different Leatherman products. I will admit I have been a bit spoilt with a charge and wave being my first and second multi tools. My partner bought the rebar for my birthday and I did no want to be rude or have her feel as though she had got the wrong multi tool. The cost of the rebar is a bit lower so I think she felt there was little difference between the rebar and the other tools like the wave. The two main problems, and there are many, with this tool is lack of interchangeable bit holder and you have to open up the tool to get out the knives. Sounds petty but actually these two issues are huge. The time it takes to get to the blades takes an incredibley long time in comparison to other Leatherman products. Sounds petty but actually these two issues are huge. The time it takes to get to the blades takes an incredibley long time in comparison to other Leatherman products. The lack of Interchangeable bits sink this product. I could maybe live with the blades issue but that coupled with the the fixed bit makes this product useless to me. I find my skeletool is more useful. The rebar is sold as a full size multi tool but honestly there are far better tools in the Leatherman lineup for only a little bit more and it has no weight or size advantages over the wave or charge. The smaller products that Leatherman have on offer I feel are almost more useful. The problem is the Chinese multi tools are on a par with this tool with functionality and usefulness at a fraction of the price. The product does not feel like a premium product either. I am not sure what I will be doing with this tool but not a lot is a definite. Sorry Leatherman but you make amazing products this is not one of them.
