The steak has the best flavor ever! After many years of cooking steak in a cast iron pan (How to cook perfect steak Jamie Oliver!), I decided to get this square grill pan. We were impressed, it was perfect! I also got a small pan which I use for omelets. They are fluffy and delish. I'm hooked and will be adding more to my collection. We bought this a few months ago and have used it several times. Easy to use. Good weight. Works beautifully!
Beautiful I purchased this cast iron pan to make steaks it’s a hidden gem made in USA . when you buy it first put vegetable oilall over the pan place it in the cold oven turn on the oven at 350 leave in oven for 7 minutes! Turn off oven wipe it down with a wet cloth you are all set ! I love it
The first time I used it it was to grill some chicken. I found that it was very hard to clean. It seemed that the bits of food that stuck to it were very hard to clean off. I even had to use baking soda but overall it just didn’t clean up very well. If I use it again I will have to put some sort of pad on it first. Probably one of those silicon grilling pads or something like that.
After having numerous broiling pans that were a pain to clean and didn’t look nice after months of use, this pan is a welcome change. It perfectly broils food and is easy to clean afterwards. It looks like new too after many uses.
I own a few non-enameled cast iron pans, and this is the first one that arrived with pits in the surface. I understand newer pans do not have the smooth surface that vintage cast iron often has. These are small pits rather than a rough surface, and I’m concerned about them filling with food. No way to get them clean without digging with a needle. Is this normal? I don’t believe so. Is it a potential hazard, or no big deal? Regardless, this pan probably should be a second. I’ll probably return or exchange if I’m near a store and can inspect a different one.
The size is perfect. However, although it claimed to be seasoned, it still should be seasoned again several times before use. I did not and after the first use and wash, and I did dry it, it still rusted the next day. I had to watch YouTube videos on how to remove the rust and re-season it a few more times. Have yet to use it after all that re-seasoning. It was tedious work.
Maybe I do not know enough on how to use this pan because the 2 times I have used it (and I am assuming the pan should be hot) there is more smoke produced than my exhaust fan can handle. The pan seems to be made fine, and I am sure it is something I am doing wrong. I need to find some guidance on using the pan.
