After all of the hype and good reviews for the camp dutch ovens, I was really disappointed with the quality of the 2 dutch ovens I received today, 11/12/19. I got them for a lower price when I saw it fall. No wonder. The rim of one pot is irregularly shaped, so that when you press the edge of the lid on one side, the lid pushes down and you can hear it close on that side. Then if you push down on edge of the lod of the opposite side, the other side pushes down. You can actually slide the lid around a bit once its one. Also, there were dents or marks on the surface on various spots both pots and both lids. As if it got hit with a lid lifter intentionally, or possibly accidentally. This passed quality control with chips/nicks in the seasoning and on the surface. ... While this may happen in use, I don’t like getting a damaged pot when ordering from Walmart.com as a new (not used or refurbished) product. The quality control is not anything close to what was described by reviewers. There are a lot of negative remarks about “made in China,†however, made in Indiana is not one but better than Chinese products I have seen. I’ve owned other Lodge pans and griddles, and they were great. So I was expecting equally good quality in a camp dutch oven.I’ll be returning these, even though they were bought at a lower price. If these 8-quarts were sold at a lower price than the 4-qts because of a batch of defects, that should have been disclosed. I almost gave one of these as Christmas gift. How awful it would have been to not have opened it and sorr of ruined someone’s gift with a lemon.Buyer beware, I guess. Now I have to repack and mail or drive to a Walmart and wait in the return line that is as slow as the U.S. post office. Maybe even slower.

Perfect Dutch oven from Lodge. I love my cast iron and this is no exception. Very sturdy and a big enough size for all of your cooking needs. It heats up perfectly and holds the heat easily. Not only do I use the Dutch oven for soups and chilies but I love to use mine to bake while camping. Lodge is an excellent line of cookware and I have quite the collection. I highly recommend giving this cast iron Dutch oven from lodge a try.

I have this Lodge Lodgic 8qt. Camp Dutch Oven With Lid and I cook just about anything in it when we go camping. It is just like having an outside oven in a firepit. They are on the expensive side, but well worth it if you go camping and cook your own food. You can cook anything from eggs to pizza to cobbler in this Dutch Oven. I would recommend this Lodge Lodgic 8qt. Camp Dutch Oven With Lid for anyone to use.

I made a mountain man breakfast this particular day for some of my family. The meal was very good indeed and devoured quickly. The only drawback was, and had nothing to with the oven, as it is already murderously hot here as summer showed up early and could not wait for the dish to finish. As it cools down to more bearable temperatures I will be using more of my cast iron frequently. I have always had excellent results with all.
Typically baking is done in shallow. 12 inches is from the top rim. Since this is the deep, the cook surface is around 10.5 inch diameter. Deep is great for cooking roasts, chicken, turkey breast, stews and for baking a cake or making popcorn! A full box cake or from scratch. I do Bundt cakes in it by greasing and flouring a #6 can (vegetables can). Cakes and popcorn can rise a bit. If you are doing biscuits or an upside down pizza, you need to double up on the charcoal on top--it's a long way down since heat rises.
Great Dutch (Camping) Oven. We used it for our scouting campout. We actually bought two, one for dessert and one for meal. The scouts had never cooked with a Dutch oven so it was a great learning experience for them. We can’t wait to go on more campouts and more Dutch oven cooking. It holds the perfect amount of food for 8+ people. We used liners to help with clean up.
This a beautiful Dutch oven but I can see reasons why some people wouldn't like it. It's HEAVY compared with stainless steel pots the same size. If you don't like heavy pots you'll hate this one. This pot has legs because it's meant to use over a camp fire. The legs will not stand on an oven rack. Don't even try. It will just tip over and make a mess in the bottom of your oven. It won't work over a stove eye either. The legs hold it too far above the heat. The box says pre-seasoned but everyone that is familiar with brand new cast iron knows it needs additional seasoning before use. I sand mine down to the metal and start from scratch and put on 6 coats, baking each coat for an hour. It's a lot of work but worth it. I can't wait to use this Dutch oven. It's great ... LOVE IT!E-Z Clean-up thanks to the preseasoning right out of the box.I use it in my Big Green Egg all the time. Keep the lid slightly cracked to let in some more of the smoky goodness. I've done short ribs, meat loaf, chicken, pork chops, pot roasts and more. Never needs to re-seasoned as long as you follow clean up directions. This is the best accessory any grillmaster can ever get.
I have only used this once but it did not disappoint me.The seasoning was even and uniform when I took it out of the box. It stood up well during the first use.A recipe book with heat control instructions was in the box with it.
Wow, this is one hefty beauty to cook your a whole chicken and other meats. I got this deep DO rather than the classic 6 quart (shallow) one so I can cook taller cuts of meat without having to trim them down. For a long time, I hesitated in buying this style of camp DO since I was worried about the legs tangling in my stovetop grate but that was a needless worry. I just remove the grate and put the dutch oven directly on the flat drip tray. In this configuration, the DO sits about 1/8" above my grates so no worries about not getting enough heat from the gas flames. For oven baking, I just put a 12" feed pan (or a cookie sheet) under the DO to provide a flat surface for the legs. I also take off the top rack to give me more room for maneuvering. This DO comes with a ... MoreWow, this is one hefty beauty to cook your a whole chicken and other meats. There are also simple DO recipes for newbies and a chart of how many charcoals to use to reach a desired temperature. Since this is a deep DO, be sure to add 2 - 4 more coals to the top & bottom to better heat up the taller interior. Most of the charcoal charts are geared toward the shallow DOs.
