A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit, the Lodge Dutch Oven is an enameled cast iron classic that's great for preparing and serving memorable meals. WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables. MAKE EVERY MEAL A MEMORY. This Lodge dutch oven meets all my expectations! I loved it as soon as I took it out of the box! The shape & color of the pot are so pretty and the quality is apparent. Even before I cooked that bomb chili in it. I'm actually very proud of it. The expense is well worth it but I got a fab deal during Way Days. I was unsure of what size to get because I need it small enough for just me but also big enough for leftovers or company. I bought the 4.5 qt size and it's perfect. I couldn't be happier & highly recommend it!

I bought this to replace a very well known Dutch oven brand that was accidentally broken at a cookout. I haven’t had an opportunity to use it yet, but in my opinion it looks feels every bit as nice as the other one, but much less expensive. I love the red, again looks much like that other brand. It really doesn’t match anything in my kitchen, but it’s so pretty I’m considering saying to heck with color leave it on my stove top. I’m pretty fussy about things like that so for me to even think about it you know it’s pretty. First time buying anything from Lodge, but doubt it will be my last.

Only used this Dutch Oven twice, in the oven once then gas stove top. Holds a large meal and stays hot/warm through the duration of the meal. The enamel was easy to clean but the weight may be challenging for some people. I placed towels on the counter to prevent chipping or scratching the granite counter. The weight also makes sliding the Dutch Oven into the oven a bit tricky. The weight is not a surprise as I own other cast iron pans however the size and weight requires the bottom shelf of the fridge. I moved the leftovers into containers instead. I like this Dutch Oven overall but my wife prefers a multilayer stock pot for its weight but cost a bit more.

I am glad I finally bought it. I wasn't sure if I really need it and if it will be a pain to clean and take care of it. It appears it is very good for me when it comes to cooking in the oven and is not hard to maintain (read the manual that comes with the pot). I specifically mentioned "cooking in the oven" before because when it comes to cooking on the stove I don't really see the difference (in my case sometimes it is even worse) then in a regular pan/pot, so except the fact it takes longer and consumes more power, I do not see the benefit in this case. We also bake bread in it, I didn't even realize how nice it is not to bother with a water pan anymore - you just put bread in it, close/open the lid as needed and that's it. Also, what is very important to me, the food doesn't stick that much as I expected. I thought it will require much more oil, but actually it doesn't, maybe just a little bit more than usual works ok for me (and I don't eat oily food).I took the red one, 6 quarts. It is big enough (I bake a whole chicken in it without problem) and it looks nice (gives me a cosy feeling). Delivered as scheduled, very good packed, no chips (thanks Wayfair!).
I liked that the bread that I made turned out well.I don't like that the Dutch Oven discolored (from a beautiful candy apple red as shown to two different colors of burgundy - one for pot and one for lid). I called Lodge, and the Rep stated that this was normal and does not effect the cooking. I asked the Rep if this was listed on their website (that the Dutch Oven will change colors when used in oven), and she stated "no". I would not have purchased this had I known it would unevenly change colors.
It's very heavy to lift and maneuver. If you have arthritis, this pot would not be for you. Directions say not to use over high heat, which means you have to sear roast and brown vegetables in a skillet, then transfer to the pot (unless you ignore the directions like I did and just use medium heat). A pleasant surprise was how easy the enamel interior was to clean after 5 hours of cooking pot roast. Directions also say to save the little rubber bumpers that come with the packing "for storage." Probably means the lid and/or rim tend to chip if banged together. I have never had much luck with crockpot cooking for some reason, so for me this pot did the job well enough, browning tough meat and then braising it in the oven. The red finish is a very pretty color, not blue-blood red but a little more on the orange side.
I am happy with the purchase of the Lodge Dutch Oven. It is most suited to "everything cooked together" which saves me time and not having to be concerned about dinner. I own a Le Creuset but a much small version for smaller items but the Lodge will save having to have the oven on on hot days. Also I am an elderly women who appreciates the benefit of owning such a convenient and wonderful way to cook a good home cooked meal
Lodge is a well respected brand of cast iron cookware/bakeware, second only to Le Creuset in most rankings, but a lot less expensive. Not cheap despite that, but I love this one for baking sourdough bread among other uses. It has made all the difference in the way the bread turns out. It holds heat exceptionally well. Beautiful to look at. A classic in red! Easy to clean if you look after it and read the information about use. I hesitated to spend the money without knowing how good it would be, but am very glad I got it. It’s plenty big enough for a 2 pound loaf of sourdough bread or any number of stove top and oven recipes for up to 4 people. I would definitely recommend this Dutch oven. Ordering and delivery (curbside) were easy and fast.
Fast, easy order from Walmart on Lodge 6 qt. Dutch Oven in red. So pretty when I took it out of the box, but immediately noticed two tiny bubbles in the porcelain glaze in the inside bottom of the pot. This is a potential problem with just about any dutch oven made in China, which is where the Lodge Dutch Ovens are made to "their exacting specifications". Obviously quality control is not part of the specifications. Easy in store return to Walmart. I ended up buying a Martha Stewart 6 qt. dutch oven (which is also made in China) at Macy's during Thanksgiving Black Friday sale for a phenomenal price. The bubbles will eventually crack after use, allowing moisture to penetrate the lining. If you can afford it, Le Creuset is the gold standard. Made in France to exacting standards, and you pay appropriately! Lodge was my first choice because I thought all their products were made in USA in Pigeon Forge, TN. Unfortunately, only their cast iron cookware is made there. Take a chance on the dutch oven if you don't mind the possibility of making returns if you get one with bubbles in the glaze. I liked the look and the weight of the dutch oven. Price is definitely affordable. Lodge needs to demand better quality control on their products made in China.
