Worth giving it a go. Tofu is not usually something we eat as I am not a big soybean fan. I found this sample of 300g pack of slightly firm classic tofu easily in the fridge. It sells for $2. 29. I decided to make a simple dish to try it. I cut it into squares and put it between absorbent towels to absorb the moisture as it was very wet. Water is the biggest ingredient in this tofu, and to get a crispy finish you need to dry it out. The tea towels were soaking wet after a couple of hours. The tofu shrunk a lot in the process, as it is only 26% soybeans and mainly water. I then mixed it in a bowl with ginger, garlic soy sauce and cornflour then baked it on baking paper until crispy, about 25 mins. It shrunk a it can be used to add to many dishes but we just tried it ... MoreWorth giving it a go. Tofu is not usually something we eat as I am not a big soybean fan. It was tasty and crispy and the little ones liked it, maybe thinking it was a bit like omelette. It is great this tofu has 4. 5 health star rating and is made in Australia. Even though it was great to try and we enjoyed trying something new I donât think this will be on my shopping list.

Great value and taste. The Macro Classic Tofu Regular is a great value block of tofu. The tofu is made with 99% Australian ingredients (Water, Soybeans (26%) & Calcium Sulphate) and gets a 4* health rating. A 500 gram block is meant to make 4 serves, with each serve containing approx 6. 9 grams of protein. I buy tofu quite regularly and have learned over time that "slightly firm" usually means still pretty soft, not just for the Woolworths brand, but in general. Therefore, I was expecting the tofu to be soft, and it was. I can imagine that this isn't what you expect when you buy it for the first time and you think you have chosen a firm tofu. I found the packaging appealing but a little difficult to open without spilling any of the water. As I prefer a firmer tofu ... MoreGreat value and taste. I blended the tofu with a frozen banana, chia seed, blueberries and a bit of vanilla extract and it turned out delicious. I will actually be buying it again for this purpose!Overall, I would definitely recommend this product, as long as you're aware that it's quite soft.

Torrific. This is a lovely smooth tofu that's easy to use and is a 99% Aussie product. Yay. Thank goodness for hints and suggestions in Bunch reviews. I got great ideas on simple ways to experiment with this tofu and I'm ready for round two!At $2. 30 for this 300g pack, it seems like great value. In a stir-fry with noodles and veges it was certainly enough to make dinner for a family of four in a weeknight, but at this price it's very easy to add another pack for a hungrier bunch. Bunch reviews suggested to dry the block a little on an absorbent cloth. I then marinated and baked the cubes I sliced in the oven. The flavour reminded me just a hint of the agadashi tofu bento boxes I used to love. The peel-top pack was not easy to open and the block did not come out of ... MoreTorrific. The peel-top pack was not easy to open and the block did not come out of the container terribly easily, but I appreciate that the packaging was simple enough with the right integrity to keep the cube "whole" as it is still quite a soft texture to protect in transit. We were all very pleased with how tasty this simple unadulterated block of tofu turned out. Big credit to helpful Bunchfolk who described how to use it enough to give us newbies a kick-start. This was definitely a little challenge that was much appreciated as a product I would not usually buy, but now have a bit more confidence to try some again...

Good versatile tofu. Whilst I've eaten a lot of tofu before I haven't cooked with tofu before so I was happy to try Macro Classic Tofu. This one was found in the refrigerated section of my local Woolworths Metro in the city. It sells for $2. 30. It is the smaller packet at 300gm. There was also a larger packet next to it. This one is the Classic Tofu - slightly firm (with a firmness of 2 out of 4) The tofu is fresh, with a best before date of just over one month. It is made in Australia from at least 99% Australian ingredients. It is suitable for vegans. Great source of protein and fibre. The ingredients are water, soybeans (26%), firming agent (calcium sulphate). There are 2 servings per pack (150gm each), and is 102 calories per serving, 8. 2gm protein, 5. 6gm ... MoreGood versatile tofu. The storage instructions say keep refrigerated at 1-4 degrees. After opening, change water every 2 days. Use within 3 days. I was surprised to see this tofu is actually one block of tofu in the container. I usually see smaller squares of tofu found at the asian grocery stores. The plastic "lid" was a bit difficult to pull away from the container. I found this tofu easily came out of the container after I pulled the sides of the container away. I listened to the advice from other Bunchees and sat the tofu on a paper towel to absorb the excess water over a couple of hours in the fridge. After that time the paper towel was fully saturated. I wanted to try cooking the tofu in a few ways to see which way I liked it. Someone said to treat it like halloumi cheese and grill it. So I sliced off a couple of pieces from the end. I fried one directly on the frying pan. The second piece was dusted in plain flour and shallow fried in some oil. The 2 pieces are in the photo below - the one that was put directly on the pan is at the top, and the one that was fried with flour and oil is at the bottom. The first one that was fried directly on the pan formed a nice skin but that stuck to the pan. The one that was dusted in flour was a winner because it had a nice crispy skin and the inside of the tofu was soft and creamy. I cut the rest of the tofu into cubes and made a laksa with chicken. I fried off the laksa paste, added coconut cream and brought it to the boil. Then I added the chicken pieces and tofu cubes. I was worried about the tofu breaking in the process. I checked that the chicken was cooked. The tofu had floated to the top of the pot. They mostly held their shape, with with the corners of the cubes coming off when I was stirring the pot and scooping it out. The tofu took on the flavours and spice of the laksa really well. Overall I enjoyed eating this tofu. I find you can cook it in a variety of ways. I like that it is made in Australia. It is fairly cheap at $2. 30 and next time I will get the larger container.
Not even close to slightly firm. This tofu is labelled as âslightly firmâ and that itâs âgreat for stir friesâ. Even the picture on the packaging shows lovely little tofu cubes. These are all lies! There is no way this is anywhere near even slightly firm. It is definitely silken tofu. If you are planning to put this in a stir fry or salad, and expect it to hold its shape like the REAL firm tofu, you will be disappointed. However, I did make a scramble with this with some spices and soy sauce, and it tasted fine in my salad.
Bland as I expected tofu to be. Have never bought or cooked tofu before but wanted to try this as a way of introducing soy into my childâs diet. The different types of tofu available confused me as to which one I should buy. I ended up going for this slightly firm, classic tofu as it was unflavoured. Some of the flavoured tofu had a multitude of ingredients listed which I wasnât happy to give my child. Even this one contained a firming agent (Calcium Sulphate) which may be required for the process of making tofu? ââď¸The packaging suggested that this tofu has a firmness rating of 2 out of 4. Itâs all new to me!Googled how to prepare tofu in a nice enough dish for an infant. Decided to make a tofu noodle dish with capsicum and pineapple. First cut tofu into small chunks and then fried them in some pineapple juice as well as soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce. After sauces had thickened set aside the tofu, prepared the rest of the ingredients before adding the tofu back into the dish. On its own the tofu was still quite bland even though it was coated in the sauces. It had a firm yet soft consistency but did not break apart easily. I wasnât a big fan of this tofu but I have read that the pre-flavoured macro tofu in the range do taste quite good. For all I know, this is what this tofu is meant to taste like. Made in Australia from atleast 99% Australian ingredients 4 star heath rating âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives The serving suggestion image on the packaging was inviting and the written suggestion of âgreat for stir fry dishesâ was positive in that that was how we used it!Cooking instructions stated âpan fry before adding to your dishâ. Iâm unlikely to purchase this again but that is only because we donât routinely cook tofu.
Not a fan. So we arenât tofu eaters in this household, none of us have tried tofu before so I have nothing to compare it to. I was actually a little apprehensive about trying it as Iâve heard plenty of negative things about it. So a little unsure how to cook or prepare the tofu, I decided to pan fry the tofu with a teriyaki marinade and if successful I was going to use it in a stir fry. I was put off by the appearance of the tofu, it was like a blob of watery processed nothing. I cut it up into small pieces and pan fried it for about 5 minutes with the marinade. Okay the taste, it was unpleasant to say the least. The taste of the tofu itself with the teriyaki marinade wasnât actually too bad but our issues lay with the texture of the tofu. I understand this is slightly firm tofu, I found it broke apart easily when I was cutting it up and upon chewing it I felt it just fell apart and was a lumpy watery feeling in my mouth, it wasnât nice. Reminded me of lumpy yoghurt or something that curdled. I could only manage one taste. Iâm actually interested to try the firmest type of tofu to see if I like that since as I mentioned earlier, I didnât mind the taste of the tofu.
Love this TOFU. Not hard and not too soft. This tofu was fantastic for warming through my cooked Cauliflower and Tofu Curry. If you're looking for the recipe. I got it out of the 2022 e-book. It was very delicious and I like to think the tofu is similar to cheese once warmed through. It was especially delicious with all the spices. ***I forgot to take a picture of my purchased Macro Tofu Packet. Not bad, but also not much flavour. The first thing I found was that the packaging was harder to open than other brands, but I also liked the plain style look of it. I used it in stir-fry tonight and was expecting the usual tofu flavour that comes from the brand names. Unfortunately this one seemed to have no flavour. Other family members found the same and instantly recognised that it was not the usual brand I buy. I would not buy this again because I like tofu, and enjoy the flavour which this does not delivery.
Nice Tofu. I wouldnât usually buy this brand for tofu but this regular (firmness) is not bad at all. It doesnât break as much when I cooked it in a dish. I cooked it with tempeh and some pork belly and onion. (i would usually go for firm tofu for this dish). Good thing is the dish was approved by my household. It was also quick dish to cook, it took me 30mins from start to finish, cooking the rice and this dish. Picture attached for the sauces used + a little of Knorr seasoning. I would try to cook it for a Mapo Tofu dish as it has the perfect firmness for that dish imo.
