First of all, don't compare the performance with a full sized mains power saw. Once you've got past that, you'll find it's an effective handy sized unit and very useful. One other thing - make sure you're using the correct blade for the task in hand!

This is my second mini Sawzall - they are very handy and light weight for small jobs. My only complaint is the two machine screws that hold the blade head on - they become loose often and have to be constantly checked. Providing a metric allan key or some red loc-tight from the factory would definitely help. All in all a great tool

Arrived quickly and in original box with instructions and a saw blade. Works really well, way better than a cheaper copy that I tried, as they say buy cheap buy twice This cuts with ease, doesnt get hot and overall I am really pleased with it.

I bought mine a couple of years ago and am very happy. I use it with a pruning blade in the garden. I am a woman of short stature and it extends my reach/ is light enough to hold with one hand. I found using a manual tree saw too tiring. I can also quickly tidy up the fallen limbs for disposal. Some maintenance is required from time to tie - this is tightening the spring loaded blade retainer - by tighten two small nuts - curiously the on- board Allen key doesn’t fit and I separately purchased a 2.5mm hex key.
It's not as powerful as the full size saw. But It's compact, it's good for small spaces. When you need to do a bodge cut, it gets you out of trouble. After all it's a recip sawIt would be nice to have a speed control, it's relatively budget. What I do think it really good is it has x2 triggersNever thought that would be useful until I tried it.
I would have to say the best features about this Makita Reciprocating Saw is the lightweight as well as the output impressed me as well. It can go above the recommended specs, not too much -- if you were looking for a similar output to that of the larger model, I would say this one can get the job done just as well.
Reciprocating saw is ok for DIY projects, but when you want to use it at job, you will notice that it have not enough power to cut joists quick. It looks sturdy, well made and very compact. In my opinion it is good product, just not for daily use at job.
Fairly gutless, tried using it for pruning tree branches with a good quality pruning blade and it struggled. Still better than a hand saw but I expected a lot better
Good product for my needs (cutting PVC onsite)If you deal with bigger, tougher jobs, get a bigger tougher saw.
This is a handy tool to have. The bigger version sits at home in the shed now, as this is more convenient. The new trigger on the 'barrel' of the saw is very comfortable to use and helps you press it firmly against the whatever you are cutting - this is essential as otherwise all that happens is the blade moves your hand up and down instead of cutting the timber! So why three stars? Build quality is poor for makita. I have had to replace the machine screws that connect the blade holder to the tool several times. No point getting it repaired under warranty just for them to shear off again. Ho hum. I would prefer to pay more money for a more solid tool. Maybe they will iron out the faults for the next generation.( cf multitool)
