Awesome bit of kit. Used petrol for years. Although this one felt slightly heavier it was still good size weight for my use.2 x 5amp batteries and trimmed trees for about 2hrs. That the benefit of battery, when not using it then it does use fuel. There's a auto off function which works really well. 1 for energy use and 2 more importantly for safety. As it doesn't make a noise you get a false sense of security. But as you have to switch it on again before pulling the trigger, it's get you back in the room!Spent prob a year procrastinating on buying this, but should have just gone for it. Like a hot knife in butter.

Plenty powerful enough to handle even quite large logs and very smooth and quiet in operation. Very easy to clean and adjust. With the 5Ah battery pair I had a good hour of cutting (including time for positioning, stacking etc) and some charge left over. It's a good replacement for my previous petrol McCulloch. The only niggle I have with this saw is that the chain oil flow is very low with the brand I was using, even on the maximum setting, so I may need to find a less viscous chain oil option.

Great lightweight chainsaw, that’s ready from the off (or in this case ‘on’). Quiet in operation but very efficient. I recommend getting high power batteries (5 or 6Ah) for longer operation. You’ll need extra chain oil as the small bottle that comes with it doesn’t last long.

An other top quality LXT Makita tool
18 January 2023

Good chainsaw around the garden. Batery lasts longer than expected. Has approimately the same power as my Sthil 181. When pruning only runs when you want it to, bo buzzing twostrowe engine in the background beween cuts and no pulll start.

Lightweight with decent battery life

Another Makita tool that uses the same battery,{X2} GREAT idea. Powerful enough for the job and battery life is acceptable because of the convenience and lightness. Double charger is also useful.

To sum up In 3 words, poor battery life. Functionally it's fine, cuts well, it's light enough and has the convenience of a petrol saw and without the fuss of storing and mixing up the fuel. Battery life is atrocious, however. I used 4ah batteries and got around 5 minutes of cutting time which made this saw almost completely impractical for my purposes of cutting up a 50cm diameter tree trunk. It might be ok for occasional small jobs but beyond that I would recommend a petrol saw. They are cheaper and the hassle of storing and mixing fuel is negligible compared to the sheer frustration and downtime of waiting an hour and a half battery charging time to get 5 minutes use

I work as an arborist and was looking for a saw to use at home in a domestic setting to process fire wood and this saw is perfect for that. The saw is very quiet and the battery lasts longer than I expected, I can usually produce enough log rounds to stack a pallet two layers high on a single charge. I would highly recommend it for any similar application but for more industrial applications I would stick to a petrol saw as they do have more torque and a faster cutting speed making them safer when felling and allow for a higher work rate.In summary, if you already have Makita batteries and want a saw for light/domestic use or if noise is a concern I would happily recommend this saw.

Overall I am pleased with the saw and its build quality. It has enough grunt for a small saw, and even using the low capacity 3.0Ah batteries that I already had it is good enough for quick jobs. It's balance and wieldability isn't quite as good as my small Stihl, but its big advantage is that I can use batteries compatable with a wide range of Makita products. Noise level is relatively low too.

Pretty good for domestic use. I opted for an electric chainsaw to make use of the batteries that don't get that much use on the other tools. A pair of 5Ah Makita batteries last around an hour continually cutting 250mm(ish) long by 150mm(ish). Mix of soft and hard wood.

Very good for occasional, light work
13 August 2020

Very easy to use chainsaw for what I need it for: cutting planks and logs for burning on a fire. Small and quiet. I like the fact that is it powered by rechargable batteries. Not for heavy duty work, though: if you are planning to cut down large trees, for example, I would get a more powerful machine. For light work, though, I am very pleased with this machine.
