Excellent saw with great safety, lite with good balance and excellent line of site. Brushless so powerful and easy to use. Each to their own but this is suitable to a professional or for a DIY person willing to invest in a better tool to achieve a more positive result. The guide is suitable but I would suggest making one’s own or buying the add on.I’m use to tools but tend to improve my own efficiency by making applicable jigs for repeat cuts.Longevity? Will have to wait but Makita is a good brand and I have many Makita tools amongst others.

I must say Screwfix not at fault!.I bought same model 2yrs 2months ago and it stopped working, Due to a mix up with makita warranty registration I had to get it repaired myself, only to be told by makita agent that because it is Brushless Model it is unrepairable because of all the electronics, I've had to buy same model again because my Guide Rail attachment (ÂŁ70) will not fit another model. TIP... if you want a cordless saw long term Don't Buy Brushless.

I have delayed writing this review until I had a chance to give the saw a serious workout. Having now sawn up a whole lot of 18mm plywood for various jobs, and just sliced off the waney edges of five 50mm thick by 2m long walnut boards for a large table top, I now feel able to do so based on decent evidence. The saw performs well, cutting cleanly and fast. I did all the sawing of the walnut boards on only one battery charge, which was impressive. There is no doubt to my mind that the thin blade in this saw is easier to flex than a standard c 3mm one, which I found meant that there was an increased tendency for the cut line to wander. Equally, a battery powered saw is much easier to stall in the cut if not kept running true, which means it’s a little harder to ... MoreI have delayed writing this review until I had a chance to give the saw a serious workout. I suppose one can’t expect quite the raw grunt power of a mains circular saw from an 18v battery. However, both these issues are more user error than saw defaults, and will be overcome with a little more experience,Build quality, balance and overall usability are definitely up to the usual Makita high standards.Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

I'm firmly embedded in the Makita camp because I already have LXT battery operated tools and would need a really solid reason to switch to another brand but all of the reviews I've read / watched for this saw have been positive with only minor niggles when compared to other top flight brands such as Skill and most of the reviewers admitting they had a personal preference. All that said, I've had a little used Elu mains powered saw for a long time and it's heavy, cumbersome and a pain to use.The Makita is none of that; it's relatively light, powerful, easy to use and has some great features. Useful feature number 1 is the air jet that keeps the cut line clear of saw dust, 2, the led light that illuminates not only the front marker but also the leading edge of the blade so following your cut line is easier. The safety switch is easy to operate with the thumb whilst pulling the trigger and the electrically braked blade means that the saw stops really quickly for improved safety. The first job I've used the saw on has been cutting out a dummy stile for some stairs and it's handled the 25mm MDF with no problems at all. The 1 mm thick blade leaves a very clean cut and cuts through the material with very little effort.Overall, I'm really pleased with this saw and would highly recommend it.
I bought this brushless & cordless circular saw as I simply 'wanted it' to go with the rest of my 18V Makita tool collection ...not because I really 'needed it' considering I already have a corded Bosch circular saw which is a little bigger and pretty powerful and have never given me any cause for complaint. No regrets whatsoever - this Makita runs like a dream, is light, easy to use and cuts beautifully. The quality of the cut and the ease of handling the saw really make it stand out. You'll have no issues cutting sheet timber or studs up to 2 inches thick and the battery power is more than enough. My only hesitation to give this review 5 stars is due to the saw being surprisingly plasticy and light weight. A couple of the adjustment levers could have been metal rather than plastic but the saw holds up well and I have no complaints at all. I would definitely recommend.
Hard to go wrong with Makita and this tool is no exception. Sturdy and well constructed with no shakes and rattles and really does what it says it will. There is a shavings discharge aperture that you can attach a vacuum to, but I didn’t use one. However the shavings didn’t bother me at all. Great view of the cut with right hand on the trigger and left on the forward hand grip. The saw was supplied with a thinner blade than the usual rip saw blade. Still tungsten tipped. Very useful for me as I was doing some kerf bending on 1” x 4” rail. I did over 110 cuts with no fade and still a couple of lights on the battery, so the much lauded brushless technology is worth the mention. Higher revs on the blade also made for easier cutting.Very nice piece of kit.
I used this for a smaller DIY job. The main reason I chose this model was the lighter weight and smaller size.I completed my project with one charge of an 5Ah BL1850 battery. There is no need for the B version of the battery as the saw has a built in charge display. There was plenty of power and it dealt with a bit of pressure being applied to the side of saw blade. For larger jobs I could see the need to swap batteries during the job.I replaced the supplied 20T rip blade with a 40T Crosscut blade to improve the cut finish. It was very smooth to use.The only criticism I would make is about the depth gauge; it could be more precise. I would recommend getting an old block of wood and making cuts to standard depths so you can use the block to quickly and ... MoreI used this for a smaller DIY job. Its become apparent that the way to go with power tools just has to be battery driven. My first drill was not a Makita but I realised what a brilliant solution it was for my jobs around the house. I learned that it would be sensible to unify the various tools I used which led me to examine who made what and who provided the best value and quality. For me it was Makita and this saw really has proven that to be true for me at least ! Super fast and well made. It has reduced the effort I used to employ for all manner of cutting jobs and of course the power is transferable to my growing collection of other Makita tools. Im sure others more professional than me have recognised that fact and you just have to look at their reviews to see why. Im very pleased with my decision.
Bought to replace an aged brushed Makita circular saw. It has ripped through a shed's worth of cladding and chipboard with no issues at all. Nice and compact/light, but seems to be sturdy too.The battery life seems excellent compared to my old brushed version (same LXT 5Ah batteries).I'm slightly confused at the bent hook thing on the front, it seems a little pointless to me. That said, I'm just a DIY-er that knows just about enough to be dangerous....The included blade seems to be really good for cutting timber. I'm going to purchase a higher TPI blade and see how it handles some aluminium box section when clamped upside down in a workmate, but I expect it will be excellent.
This is the review for DHS680Z:Very light, easy to use, very low vibration levels, powerful, very good battery life. First cuts were through a 2 inches acacia boards, which was pretty much at the thickness limit of this saw..and the cuts were made so easy and edges were shiny-smooth (used original blade).Second job was framing one wall, about 10 studs size, after both jobs the battery was still on 4 bars!Price was very good (since I got the battery and charger free part of a promotion of HD).I am impressed with the quality of this tool and I will buy more Makita tools.
