If you look at the reviews on this, you'll see that Marmite is extremely polarizing. Its tag line is that you love it or hate it, and that is 100% accurate. If you check out their website, they've actually done research into why that's the case. They found out that certain genetic markers actually dictate whether you like or dislike Marmite, which is pretty cool because it means that it actually tastes different to people depending on their genetics, much like (disgusting, soapy) cilantro.I feel so bad for people who dislike it. It's similar to soy sauce in saltiness, but it also has a very rich umami as well. Almost like concenrrated bouillon. It is so good when used right. For other Americans who may not be familiar, it's usually served on toast. So toast up ... MoreIf you look at the reviews on this, you'll see that Marmite is extremely polarizing. It tastes very strong and a little bit goes a long way, and that's good because this stuff is pricey in America. My favorite way to use it is as listed above with a little bit of peanut butter on top of it.

Because apparently it's one of those things you either love or hate. I tried Marmite for the first time today. I had asked a few people who have eaten it what it was like before trying it and every one of them recoiled in horror and told me it's disgusting, so what were my first impressions? Well I was surprised to see that it has so many B Vitamins I like that about it and the sniff test revealed a rather beefy aroma which I also liked. Then the finger dip... first hit was big and beefy, what an intense flavour! I wasn't too sure if it was just too much for me. Next - what to do with it? Well I love bread and olive oil and I normally have it with Balsamic Vinegar so I decided to try this and substitute the balsamic with the Marmite - I liked this the flavours ... MoreBecause apparently it's one of those things you either love or hate. Then I went for the toast option, brown seeded with a skim of Marmite - the flavour was definitely stronger again with this and I found with the first bite I wasn't sure if I would finish it but with each bite after that I kept thinking the same but I still kept eating it! plus one of the people who told me it was disgusting came in during this and I asked them if they wanted to have some and told them it was full of B vitamins to which they pulled a face and reluctantly took a bite, and suddenly they perked up and said it was really nice! and that they were going to start eating it! So there you go, one convert and a newbie who doesn't love or hate it but who would definitely eat it again.

It may be said that only the weird Brits actually enjoy this stuff, and indeed, it is often the first solid food spread on bread and butter, given to infants. But to be without it when one craves the comfort of hot toast and Marmite (and a cuppa tea, of course) is a form of torture. Please continue bringing into the US. Don't make me come up there!

I love this stuff. So tasty and a great source of vitamins etc. I am very particular with how to spread it though. For those of you who are not sure whether you like it (or even don't like it but have some left), try mixing a little with some butter/vegetable spread. I like it with vitalite. Maybe a third of marmite with two thirds of spread. Mix it by spreading a little butter/spread on the bread/toast first (stops the marmite ripping the bread), then add the marmite (you'll need to experiment with the amounts) and mix using the knife by spreading over and over in the same spot, then spread the mixture over the rest of the slice. I see some folks use it in a stew or soup. Think I'll give that a go too!
When it comes to Marmite, people often say that you either love it or hate it. Well I am one of those people that love it! So when I found out that you could get Marmite in a reduced salt variety, I was really excited to try it. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting it to taste as good as original Marmite - But I was completely wrong!Marmite Reduced Salt tastes as good, and in my opinion is even better, than original Marmite. It has all those umami qualities that you love and expect, but with a tiny bit less of the bitterness. Marmite Reduced Salt is really smooth to eat, but still packs that typical Marmite satisfying tang.I've tried other 'reduced salt' products before and been left a bit disappointed. Marmite Reduced Salt is really smooth to eat, but still packs that typical Marmite satisfying tang.I've tried other 'reduced salt' products before and been left a bit disappointed. I'm really happy that Marmite Reduced Salt is not like those products. It keeps the spirit of the original, but makes it more healthy by having 25% less salt per serving. One other unexpected difference that I found, was that Marmite Reduced Salt has a slightly smoother texture. This makes it a bit simpler to scoop out of the jar, and much more easy to spread on your favourite foods. My favourite is to spread it on a French bread baguette with a little bit of butter. It mixes so well and tastes delicious - especially if the bread is a bit warm so it all melts together.A friend of mine stayed over the other night, and I made some toast and Marmite Reduced Salt for breakfast. I didn't tell them that I used the reduced salt version. I asked them how it tasted and they said it was great. I then revealed that I used Marmite Reduced Salt. They were super impressed by the way it tasted, and could never had told the difference!I'm definitely a new fan of Marmite Reduced Salt. You get all that same wonderful Marmite taste but with 25 per cent less salt. It's just one little thing to help my family and friends live a bit healthier without sacrificing on taste!Marmite Reduced Salt - l Love It!
I have been eating Marmite on virtually a daily basis for the past 45 years. I am a confirmed Marmite addict!I was a bit unsure of a lower salt version in case it tasted different from the original. On opening the jar it smells the same, looks the same and so I moved onto the ultimate test, Marmite on toast, a firm favourite of mine.I can honestly say that the new Marmite lower salt is great, to me it tasted virtually identical to the original and just as yummy on my toast. It is great on toasted crumpets and for breakfast this morning I had Marmite lower salt on a toasted wholemeal muffin. Yummy! As people are so health conscious and should be reducing their salt intake this new Marmite means you can enjoy the old, familiar Marmite taste but with less salt. A real winner in my opinion.I have had diabetes for 35 years and Marmite has always been my first choice of spread. It is full of B vitamins and is just SOOOO tasty. If you don't like Marmite then try less of it, you don't need a huge amount.. I'm sure you'll learn to love it as much as I do.Delighted with the new version and will definitely be buying it in future.Buy a jar now, you won't regret it!
Not much to say really is there, you either love it or, well the other is not worth thinking about. I used to live in an Aussie community in Paris and used to never understand how they could say that Vegemite is better than Marmite. Just had a trip down under and discovered that the product they have which is called Marmite (has the trademark there I guess) is a disgusting black tar. They do have proper Marmite but it's in the niche international section of the supermarket in tiny jars, and it's called "Our Mate".
Let's start with the packaging. Still that great same old shape and if you were blindfolded you could work out what the product was straight away by feeling the shape of the jar especially if like myself was brought up on this product. As a family we all enjoy marmite, wether on toast, bread sticks or even my girlfriend randomly does dips carrots into it.I sat us down for a late snack to watch television and out came the marmite.I put the product into a bowl so everyone was oblivious if the was anything different about the product, just so I could get and see any honest reactions in there faces.Everybody dipped in and as per normal, big smiles and messy faces.Just as I thought it was once again a thoroughly enjoyed light snack as normal.I progressed once ... MoreLet's start with the packaging. They were all happy knowing that the salt was reduced and had not effected the taste or any texture of everyone's late night snack and were more impressed it's even better for you to consume as the salt has been reduced. This is something in our household we are trying to do as a family, so knowing one of the favourite household snacks does this and has no way affected any taste or texture, this has become a complete success in our household and something we would definately recommend and certainly purchase again. One very big thumbs up!!
You. EITHER. HATE MARMITE. OR YOU LUV IT. I LUV IT. &.MY CAT LUVES IT. SHE LICKES TOAST TILL MARMITE GONE. REALLY PRICEY NOW. NOW. HAVE TO SCRAPE LAST REMNANTS FROM JAR..SO BEST TO KEEP SMALL JAR IN CUPBOARD SO NOT TO RUN OUT..CATASTROPHE. THAT WOULD BE.
What on earth happened to this productOn the love it hate it debate I was always more of a Vegemite fan.But as I get older (and older) my taste buds lean to more and more savoury food.So after forty years of dismissal I decided that rather than getting another jar of Vegemite I’d try the old ‘stronger’ Marmite just for a change. It no longer bares any resemblance to the product I loved to hate. The consistency is gooey and rubbery and it no longer has any ‘bite’. Though it’s been a while I can still remember the taste but this, It’s just shockingly bland.Back to Vegemite for me, much nicer.
