Marshall Origin 5W 1x8 Guitar Amplifier Combo
The Marshall Origin20C represents a perfect fusion of classic valve tone and modern innovation, designed for guitarists who demand authentic Marshall sound with contemporary flexibility. This 20-watt combo amplifier features two built-in voices and Marshall's revolutionary Powerstem technology, which provides switchable power output between 20W, 5W, and 0.5W without compromising the sonic character of your tone. The single-channel design generates rich, harmonic tones through its complement of 3 x ECC83 preamp valves and 2 x EL34 power valves, paired with a 10" Celestion V-type speaker. The Origin20C excels as a platform for effects pedals, featuring a footswitchable FX loop and gain boost function controlled by the included PEDL-90016 footswitch. The innovative tilt control allows you to shape your sound from warm and full (left position) to bright and cutting (right position), giving you extensive tonal versatility from a single channel. Combined with the presence control for high-frequency adjustment, you can craft your signature sound across any volume level. Powerstem technology sets this amplifier apart by reducing voltage rails around the power amplifier rather than using traditional pentode/triode methods. This approach maintains optimal tone and performance characteristics regardless of your playing environment, making it equally suitable for bedroom practice, rehearsal rooms, or stage performances. The classic Marshall styling houses modern features that make the Origin20C an ideal choice for players seeking authentic valve tone with practical versatility.

This amp is fantastic! Legendary Marshall tube tone in a combo amp with a great look. The power switch is perfect for practicing your chops in the bedroom while still retaining that legendary tone. The tone controls provide a lot of EQ flexibility, and the tilt knob lets you easily blend classic Plexi-style channels to your desire.Adjusting the Gain and Master knobs lets you balance your volume needs with your gritty needs, though this amp doesn't really get dirty. It's a GREAT pedal amp. I'm currently using a Boss Super Overdrive and a Walrus Audio Ironhorse Distortion pedal and getting all the tones I want. There's no reverb built-in, so a reverb pedal is on my shopping list next.I'm not regularly gigging, but I don't see why you couldn't gig with this amp. ... MoreThis amp is fantastic! It gets plenty loud, it doesn't weigh a ton, and it's tone is incredible. For where I'm at and what I'm doing, I couldn't ask for a better amp.

Now that I've had this amp for several months I fell like I can write a proper review. As others have mentioned already, this is a low - mid gain Marshall (with the volume and/or pre-gain cranked.)This allows me to go from a clean Marshall tone all the way to 60's and 70's crunchy rock. I find the boost function mildly useful, mostly I leave it off. I am a home based player in a tiny suburban house and I have no problem getting it loud enough to crunch without annoying the wife or neighbors. All of the pedals I have used with this amp sound from good all the way to fantastic.I currently play a 2020 Gibson SG Jr with one or more of the following pedals: Xotic SL Drive, Range Blaster Treble Booster, Keeley Fuzz Bender, Keeley Super Phat Mod, or Timmy.

This amp built like a tank and is great for at home practice as you change the wattage and get a nice plexi breakup sound at low volumes and it cleans up very nice.Takes pedals with ease. Small enough to carry without breaking your back. Tilt control is very usefull to darken up your sound. The clean with reverb ihas a great sound, almost like a Fender but slighty edged. Full gain is not the standard Marshall over compressed sound. You will need a pedal of choice to bump that up if desired, however I love the sound and the boost switch helps bring your leads to life..Granted this not a $3000 Marshall, but its pretty darnn close and for the money a bargin.Dont delay buy today!

This amp is a tone monster and gets better every day! First of all, this is not a face melting high gain amp, but that’s exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful clean and crunch tones and a great platform for all my pedals. I had some concerns about the 10” speaker but the larger cabinet really makes this sound big. For those who think this sounds a little thin, it’s designed to be cranked up. Once the gain and/or master are at 6+ the magic starts happening and the tone really fattens up. Only downfall is no onboard reverb, but again it’s designed for pedals so plug in your favorites and go to town. I would buy this amp again without hesitation.
It took me quite a while to figure out how to make this combo work in the context of my home studio, but now that I have, I couldn't be happier. In short, this amp sounds glorious with both the Master and Gain at or above 6... anything below that on either side, and the amp sounds anemic. I run this thing in full power mode and use the controls of both my Tele and Strat to cover a wide range of tones. People trip on the fact that it has no reverb, but in my opinion, it doesn't need it... especially when I dial in the EQ just right and those EL34 get nice and warm... sounds very "spacious" and 3D with nice squishy feel. I haven't used the FX loop, as I run everything into the front end... it takes wah, phaser, flange, delay, chorus, etc. well, and absolutely loves ... MoreIt took me quite a while to figure out how to make this combo work in the context of my home studio, but now that I have, I couldn't be happier. All in all, this little mama ROCKS!
I played for many years professionally, but now just jam at home or with friends. This is a great little combo for practice or small gigs. It's surprisingly clean for a Marshall. You really have to crank it if you want to make it break up. Even on the lowest power setting it can be quite loud before it distorts. It's a great pedal platform and very versatile for a small combo. You will want to have a decent overdrive or distortion pedal if you want to rock out at low volumes though.
I got it from Sweetwater with a Squier classic vibe strat. Customer service was excellent. Everyone there was so nice and they knew what they were talking about. If you can make the trip to Fort Wayne IN, I recommend it. The amp sounds really good and has an amazing feature set. The tilt knob is really useful for dialing in your tone for different guitars. And then the power switching is awesome. I usually use it @ the low setting (I believe it is 1 watt?) and it's still powerful! great buy for an even greater price
Overall:What a nice sounding amp. It's my first all tube amp and I am very well pleased at how much better the sound is over most solid state amps. It's very easy to use, and is plenty load for most rooms I play. The only recommendations I wouldake is to play it through a 2x12" cab, or upgrade it to a 12" Celestine green back speaker. Other than that it still sounds amazing through the included 10" one.
Overall:Well I got my Marshall Origin 20C yesterday and the JHS 3 Series Reverb pedal today. Got everything hooked up and after a little adjusting, this little amp rocks. Then added my Boss SD-1 overdrive pedal and I'm in ROCK $ ROLL HEAVEN!!! And as for Blues it's just as great. I'm disabled and just play in my apartment so the low power setting(.2 watts) is working out fantastic. Thank you Marshall for making this super little amp and thank you zZounds for hooking me up with the 12 month payment plan. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
This was a pleasant surprise, especially for the price. I bought it as a backup to my Winfield Brat, which has been my only performing piece for 10 years. Right now I find myself picking the Marshall over the Brat for liver performances. Tremendous, authentic Marshall tone, plenty of saturation that cleans up well by rolling off the volume. It sounds like my old JCM800 half stack, but it doesn't require ear-bleeding volume to get the sound. This is NOT an amp for bedroom players, though - it's still a Marshall, you have to turn it up to get the sound. I'm running it at 5 watts onstage (miked), and it's plenty loud to cut through the band's stage volume. The half-watt setting doesn't sound very good, really thin and wimpy.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of ... MoreThis was a pleasant surprise, especially for the price.
