Its firm grip without slipperiness comes from robust building and a matte, smooth texture. The steady magnetic attachment to the Surface Pro keeps the pen always charged and within reach. The Pro Keyboard for Surface Pro (11th Edition) exudes a certain quality. It is built properly, with a strong frame and fine keys that offer a good typing experience. Especially in darkly light environments, having backlit keys is a useful feature. Strong connection created by the magnetic attachment of the Surface Pro and keyboard transforms the tablet into a totally working laptop. The Surface Slim Pen 2 performs very brilliantly. Because of its low latency and superb accuracy, it is perfect for note-taking, drawing, and Surface Pro navigation. Excellent pressure sensitivity helps one to write and draw rather naturally. The haptic feedback which mimics the sensation of writing on paper with subdued vibrations is one very remarkable aspect. Through bettering the tactile feel generally, this feature makes digital writing more pleasurable and easy. On a range of tasks, the Pro Keyboard performs admisably. The perfect key travel offers a nice and snappy typing experience. Productivity rises with the multi-touch actions enabled by the precise and silky touchpad. Convenient built-in slot in the keyboard of the Surface Slim Pen 2 is a well-considered element that keeps the pen safe and handy. The Surface Slim Pen 2 has rather astonishing simplicity of use. It runs perfectly with many programs, including Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office, and combines naturally with the Surface Pro. The customizable buttons of the pen provide simple access to often used functionalities, hence enhancing its adaptability. Whether I'm annotating papers, navigating presentations, or drawing, the pen always runs smoothly and responsively. The Pro Keyboard increases the general usability of the Surface Pro by making typing on it more comfortable and extending the tablet's functionality. The strong and consistent magnetic attachment helps the keyboard to remain in its correct position throughout use. Thoughtfully arranged, the keyboard features all the required keys right at hand. The Surface Slim Pen 2's battery life is amazing it may last many weeks between charges with regular use. Easy magnetic charging keeps the pen constantly ready to use. The Surface Pro detects the pen straight away and there is no lag or connectivity issue. The Pro Keyboard has no extra battery since it gets power straight from the Surface Pro. This is a major benefit since it implies less frequent charging. Using the consistent connection, I have not experienced any dropouts or connectivity problems. This both accessories are an Excellent add-ons that significantly increase Surface Pro's capability and turns Surface Pro into a more competent and flexible device. Given their deft design and construction, both adapters are great additions to any Surface Pro configuration. Whether one values productivity that of a student, creative worker, or for daily use the Surface Slim Pen 2 and Pro Keyboard are a great acquisition. They not only improve the general usage of the Surface Pro but also enable its full potential.

The magnetic connection between the two is quite strong so there is no concern with accidental disconnects. When closed the keyboard magnetically attaches to the Surface Pro so it looks and feels like a very thin laptop. The electrical connection is via connectors on one of the fingers in the base and the keyboard must be attached to the Surface Pro for it to work. The keyboard is stiff enough to type on and the keys provide good feedback when pressed so you can type with confidence. There are three levels of brightness for the key caps which is very helpful in low light conditions. There is some flex in the material between the base and the Surface so it can wobble when not placed on a solid surface. I also noticed some flex when using the touchpad buttons when the keyboard was not on a solid surface. The base has a storage area that charges the Slim Pen when not in use. For me this is a great advantage because in the past whenever I needed my pen it was always low on battery life. Also the storage area becomes hidden when the keyboard is raised into the typing position. I am still getting used to the flat pen but one advantage is that it has a magnet so you can set it down on the palm rest and it sticks. The Slim Pen 2 has two buttons that allow you to perform various task in some applications. There is also an led that lets you know when the pen is low on battery.

The keys are mechanical with the keyboard being raised and attached magnetically along the front at the lower edge of the Surface Pro for an inclined typing experience, or it can be lowered so that it’s flat on the desktop as well. While not a particularly noisy keyboard, it is a little quieter in a flat position. In the inclined position there is a certain give or flex while typing but not enough to be a problem or distraction. When connected to the Surface Pro, it does so magnetically with pins on the lip of the keyboard engaging the bottom of the Surface Pro. When the keyboard is folded up across the screen, it attaches magnetically putting the Surface Pro to sleep and providing screen protection as well. The keyboard can be folded all the way back the other way with it flush against the back of the Surface Pro when using the Surface Pro as a tablet. Unlike the Surface Pro 11 Flex Keyboard, the Pro Keyboard does not have BT or a battery for use separately from the Surface Pro.The keyboard has a larger size touch pad that is quite smooth and easy to operate. It is a mechanical touch pad, so there is clicking, and not a haptic touch pad that doesn’t move as the Surface Pro 11 Flex Keyboard has.It comes with the Slim Pen 2 that nestles magnetically in a slot above the keys where it is securely protected and charges there only when the keyboard is connected to the Surface Pro.The Slim Pen 2 looks like a carpenter’s pencil with its flattened sides that I find quite comfortable and easy to hold when using. The inking experience is excellent with no issues that I noted. It’s an excellent tool for navigation, writing or sketching. While the Slim Pen 2 feels better on the screen while writing (better than the Apple Pencil 2 on the iPad’s screen), it still isn’t like writing on paper. It is, after all, a solid nib on a hard glass screen so it’s still slick with not much friction even though the haptic feedback through the pen provides some feeling of texture on the screen. Nevertheless, it doesn’t provide real friction between the nib and screen so expect a similar writing experience to other pens or stylus’s being used on a glass screen.Lastly, there is a special use key on the keyboard called the CoPilot key. Originally, it’s use was to open up a kind of AI assistant that could be directed to not only do what the downloadable version of CoPilot can do on any Windows machine, but for use as a more integrated AI experience with the Surface system enabling you to have CoPilot change settings and similar activities. However, that attribute was stripped away and now the key’s only role is to open CoPilot more as a PWA (like you would get if you opened CoPilot from a web browser). Once open in a window taking up the screen, you chat with it through text input as you would on any computer having CoPilot downloaded on it. It is a disappointing use of a special key taking up space on your keyboard.Overall, the Surface Pro Keyboard and Slim Pen 2 combo are a useful and necessary addition to your Surface Pro. Any intention of AI integration with your Surface Pro is missing and a disappointment lessening its combined capabilities with your Surface Pro.

The Microsoft Surface Pro Keyboard is comfortable to type on and magnetically stores and charges the Slim Pen when not in use. It is thin and can feel a little flimsy when typing on it (especially if you're using it on your lap). I find myself worried that I may apply too much pressure and cause the top to "unfold" down (where the pen is stored) or maybe bend the keyboard. So, if you're typing a long document or doing a lot of coding, you may want to fold the keyboard completely out so it is flush against your desk's surface. Despite that, the keys seem to be spaced normally and it did not feel like a huge adjustment moving from a full-sized keyboard to this. Despite that, the keys seem to be spaced normally and it did not feel like a huge adjustment moving from a full-sized keyboard to this. The trackpad is also accurate and easy to use, properly registering my gentle taps as "clicks". Both the laptop and keyboard fold together nicely to protect the screen and they make the unit very portable to carry or slip into a backpack. The addition of the Copilot key is nice, but I don't find pressing it often even though I'm a frequent Copilot user (I'm simply used to clicking the Copilot icon on the task bar). I really like the dedicated mute key located on F1 as it makes it simple to find during a meeting (so I'm not scrambling to find the icon on screen). The keyboard also has an adjustable backlight for late night typing. The keys can feel a little "mushy" to type on as this is not a mechanical keyboard with clicky keys. The Slim Pen flat and may initially feel a little odd to feel, but I adjusted to it fairly quickly. I really appreciate the tactile feedback (which can be adjusted in the pen settings) so it makes writing on glass feel a little more natural without needing a paper-like screen protector. The top of the pen can be used as an eraser in supported programs, and its click can be configured to open OneNote or another application.Overall, this keyboard provides decent protection to the display while providing a full-sized keyboard, trackpad and storage (with charging) for the pen.
I recently acquired the Surface Pro – Copilot+ PC along with the Surface Slim Pen and Pro Keyboard. . The Dune-colored keyboard is a nice departure from the usual black and gray standards I've always had. It effortlessly attaches and detaches from the tablet thanks to its magnetic connector, offering flexible positioning—either at a tilted angle for comfortable typing or laid flat to reveal the neatly stored Slim Pen in its storage/charging tray (see attached pictures). The Alcantara material covering the keyboard, reminiscent of high-quality felt, not only feels soft but also provides stability and eliminates slippage on any surface I’ve tried it on. A backlit keyboard is a must-have for me, so I appreciate that this one comes with adjustable brightness levels, enhancing usability across different environments.Having been a laptop/mouse user forever, using the Slim Pen for the first time has been quite eye-opening. After a few days of using the keyboard and pen, I've found the experience refreshingly positive in general day-to-day computer usage. I have also edited several videos just using the keyboard/pen vs. a mouse and have found that some functions are quicker using the pen, but trimming/editing clips is more difficult to me, maybe I’m doing something wrong or just need more practice. In my case I think a mouse is still necessary, at least at this point, while I continue to learn using the pen.The track pad is very responsive as are the keys on the keyboard, they have a nice feel and click to both. The Slim Pen stays securely in place within the magnetic storage tray and charges while it's stored. However, I've noticed that it can be challenging to remove from the tray at times. While the magnetic hold is strong and secure, it can be tricky to extract the pen. Adding a finger-sized indentation or something like that to aid in removing it would be beneficial. Currently, I find myself kind of prying it up by the front tip to release it from the tray, hope this doesn’t hurt it in the long run. Overall, I really like this keyboard/pen, just think it could be a little easier to remove it from the storage tray.
The ability to keep the keyboard connected to the Surface Pro is both an advantage and a disadvantage to me. The keyboard doesn’t need to be charged, but that also means it needs to be attached at all times if typing is required. As a result, this form factor can feel restrictive in terms of where it can be set up such as on tables that aren’t too narrow or on certain sitting positions.KEYS:They have a nice tactile, responsive feel overall - although presses can feel a little stiff - sometimes I found myself typing louder and with more force as a result. Also when typing with the Slim Pen 2 tray folded and the keyboard is raised, typing feels a little hollow. However, I personally missed having some dedicated media play/pause buttons, and I found the up/down arrow keys to be really small. On the plus side, the touchpad feels goodDESIGN:I got it in Dune. The keyboard is pretty light, and the fabric on the exterior side is nice. It makes the device seem less cold/icy and blends in or even complements furnishings, but the interior not so much. I believe it has a different texture than the outside (inside was less soft, a little more plastic-y, perhaps as a deterrent to sweat staining or something). The keyboard is advertised as ‘Covered with luxurious Alcantara material’, but for some reason the interior reminded me of a cardboard egg carton, particularly around the raised edges surrounding the keys. The key colors look a little plain. The magnets/connection points are secure and they won't detach unless you want them to (ask me how I know - the tablet’s kickstand slid off a small side table but I caught the keyboard and the magnet connection prevented it from falling.)PEN:Being able to have the Slim Pen 2 stored on the keyboard and charged is one of the best things about this keyboard. This is my first time using a pen to edit photos so I can’t make too much of a comment about it, but overall it felt much better than using a mouse or touchpad. The eraser on the end is a nice touch in addition to the clickable button. Handwriting recognition is also pretty good, when the words are written clearly. One thing to note - the pen’s pinned apps are limited to 4 programs of your choice at a time which felt like that could be a little frustrating. The pen is also light, almost like a plastic toy, but once the haptics start, it feels more like a real tool.I appreciated the staff paper in the journal app which would be perfect for musicians who can use it to compose or jot down musical ideas.OTHER THOUGHTS:One disadvantage for me was the folding upper section of the keyboard where the Slim Pen 2 is stored - trying to move the tablet+keyboard combo one handed around felt a little scary and messy since the folding section where the Slim Pen is stored can pop open and cause the keyboard to flap around in the air.In the end, without a keyboard, the Surface Pro’s full potential is limited for sure, but I did find myself checking to see what the other keyboard alternatives were.
One of the top main complaints about the Surface Pro type covers since its initial release is that it should have been included with the Surface Pro to begin with. But most Surface Pro buyers would not purchase it if it were the total cost of the devices, so I think Microsoft has had the right idea in selling them separately. With that said, you really have to consider how you use a keyboard and stylus to decide if it's worth the money for you. Don't purchase it just because you see the media and promotional materials pairing them all together. That's the beauty of them being sold separately. This particular product bundles the Surface Pro keyboard with the Surface Slim Pen 2, and is compatible with the new Surface Pro 11th edition, so its size covers the tablet ... MoreOne of the top main complaints about the Surface Pro type covers since its initial release is that it should have been included with the Surface Pro to begin with. That's the beauty of them being sold separately. This particular product bundles the Surface Pro keyboard with the Surface Slim Pen 2, and is compatible with the new Surface Pro 11th edition, so its size covers the tablet screen perfectly. They're both also compatible with certain older models such as the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 9. I've only personally tested them with the new Surface Pro 11th edition. The Pro keyboard still uses the suede/microfiber-feeling material known as Alcantara. If you've used one of these keyboards before you should be familiar with the pros and cons. It feels premium and comfortable to touch but the material will wear over time. I don't expect any different from this keyboard. The Pro keyboard is powered by the Surface Pro itself, which it magnetically connects to, so you never have to worry about charging it as you would with Bluetooth keyboards. It will always be ready to use. The keyboard is also backlit despite its very thin profile, and you have the option to turn it off. I found typing decent with the Surface Pro keyboard but it will bother users who expect more key travel. There's just no way around it with a device as thin as this is.There is now a CoPilot key located on the right side of the keyboard where the Context menu key used to be on older keyboards. Unfortunately I haven't used it much because CoPilot hasn't been practically useful to me since it makes a lot of errors for my particular use case. But your mileage may vary. Microsoft is betting on AI and that's where the computing market is general is heading, so if they don't abandon it like Cortana (which arguably evolved to CoPilot anyway) maybe it will grow to be useful and I can be glad the dedicated key exists. There's no native way to remap the keys, but you probably can using third party software. The touchpad is large enough and glass, which feels great, but it doesn't have haptic feedback because there isn't the motor for it. That's reserved for the more expensive Flex keyboard model. There is a pen storage well placed above the keys and now left exposed for easy access to the Slim Pen 2 whenever you need it. Not only does it hold the Slim Pen 2 magnetically, it charges it as well. The Slim Pen 2 has a flat design, which I'm not the biggest fan of. Through online research, I found out this design is that of a carpenter's pencil. The thing is, one wouldn't use a carpenter's pencil to write or draw if they had the choice. So it seems like they chose this design so it's flat enough to conceal within the type cover. I can get used to it, but it's not my preference. I also found the button a bit hard to press, but that can be a good thing because I won't accidentally press it while I'm using the pen.Pressure sensitivity is nice but I'm not an artist nor do I draw. I don't know how to elaborate in a meaningful way for artists that would use the Slim Pen 2 to draw unfortunately. But it does ink at variable thickness based on the amount of pressure you use while writing/drawing with it.The top end of the pen serves as a digital eraser, which is nice and feels intuitive. The cool thing about the Slim Pen 2 is its haptic feedback. Previously people would suggest using a textured screen protector to simulate the pen on paper feel, but I never liked how those change the look of the screen just for the sake of that. With the haptic feedback, the pen feels like there's friction while writing/drawing with it, which just enhances the user experience.I can comfortably recommend it to Surface Pro users who type on-the-go, and have a need to use the pen a lot. But as a reminder, if that doesn't fit your profile, you don't HAVE TO spend that much. If you don't see yourself using the pen much or at all, don't get this. Get the cheaper model with just the keyboard. If you use the Surface Pro as a tablet most of the time and don't see yourself using a physical keyboard, or more comfortable using a bluetooth keyboard with better key travel. Otherwise the Surface Pro keyboard with Surface Slim Pen was made for the Surface Pro, especially the 11th edition. Literally.
I recently got the Surface Slim Pen and Pro Signature Keyboard accessory bundle to complement my new Surface Pro Copilot+ PC, and I must admit, I’m thoroughly impressed! As I type this review on the keyboard, I appreciate its quick snap-on design. It effortlessly attaches to the Surface Pro without any fuss, and the connection feels sturdy. The pen, too, seamlessly integrates with the Surface Pro. Upon picking it up from its slot, the Surface Pro immediately recognized it and provided an on-screen pop-up overview of its capabilities. Using the pen is a delight as well. There is no noticeable lag, and its sleek, slim design ensures comfortable use. While the flat form factor took a bit of adjustment for me, it still feels like writing with a real pen.The built-in ... MoreI recently got the Surface Slim Pen and Pro Signature Keyboard accessory bundle to complement my new Surface Pro Copilot+ PC, and I must admit, I’m thoroughly impressed! I like that both the keyboard and pen draw power from the Surface Pro’s battery, this eliminates the need for separate charging, meaning less chargers to carry. The keyboard also doubles up as a protection cover for the Surface Pro's screen and the slim design makes it easy to slip the device into a sleeve. The dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard is also a plus. I have been using Copilot for work so this welcome addition provides a seamless access to its features and capabilities. I am also fond of using the snipping tool so having a separate key for this tool is a stroke of genius. Truly, convenience and efficiency are what's being offered by this keyboard bundle. With this keyboard, my Surface Pro Copilot+ PC transforms into a powerful laptop, making it the perfect companion for productivity on the go. So, whether I’m typing up reports or writing notes, this bundle has me covered!
The Surface Slim pen 2 and Pro keyboard convert the 2-in-1 Surface Pro into a sleek lightweight laptop and media creation tool. The keyboard instinctively latches correctly onto the tablet into the two designated connector slots via the magnets when positioned close and works perfectly with the Surface kickstand. The two slots provide connectivity and power for the keyboard and passthrough charging for the pen. There is a cavity at the top of the keyboard which houses and charges the slim pen when connected to the tablet. The design allows the cavity to be easily tucked underneath the tablet keeping the pen out of sight during use if preferred. The backlit QWERTY style keys are nicely sized and have good travel and accurate keystrokes. The keyboard backlighting has two brightness levels. The keyboard has a little noticeable flex at times but generally feels solid and performs well during most typing tasks. There is a dedicated Copilot key for launching the Copilot AI app, but otherwise, the keys are standard fare for a Windows PC. The integrated trackpad is accurate and is not prone to errant swipes and selections. There are no hardware click buttons but pad taps and double taps are sufficiently responsive and accurate. The Windows mouse app allows changes such as mouse speed for more granular fine-tuning.The Bluetooth enabled Slim pen 2 can also be used without the keyboard until it need charging. It functions well as a mouse style pointer, especially for media creation. It has good pressure sensitivity for freehand drawing and hand writing on the Surface. There are two buttons on the pen which function similar to mouse buttons and also allow pairing the pen via Bluetooth with other devices. The pen tips last a good while and are replaceable if or when they wear down. The tip doesn’t seem harsh on the Surface Pro glass, which is good because I’m having a hard time finding quality paper style protectors like I use on my other tablet. The pen charges wirelessly via the cavity on the Surface keyboard but does not have a dedicated charger.Overall, the Surface slim pen and keyboard cover are indispensable if using the Surface as a true 2-in-1. They don’t add much bulk or weight and work seamlessly with the Surface. The cover also helps keep the Surface screen protected when not in use. The keyboard is also available in matching colors for the Surface. The pen however only comes in black.
The thing that stood out to me immediately when I started using this was how unexpectedly good the typing experience was. For essentially a glorified tablet cover, it provides a shockingly good typing experience. It's quite a bit stiffer than I was expecting, and the key action feels pretty good as well. It's somewhat uncomfortable and inconvenient if you aren't on a flat, hard surface. Trying to use it on your lap, for example, is a very uncomfortable experience - it's almost impossible to have a comfortable typing position without the tablet falling off your lap. With that in mind, if you can afford to spend the extra cash, I would go for the Surface Pro Flex Keyboard - it's a fully wireless option. You'd be able to have the device sit to the side or in front of you while you type from your lap. Lets you have a lot more flexibility in usage. One nice feature is that the Fn key is more of an Fn lock. The top row of keys defaults to the device controls such as brightness, volume, mute, keyboard backlight, et cetera; but pressing the Fn key makes the row act as function keys - and they continue to act that way unless you press the Fn key again to switch back. There's a little light on the key to indicate which one is currently active, although if you aren't actively typing the light will turn off after a bit and then it can get a bit confusing. The trackpad is rather small, it seems as though there's some space they could still make use of to increase the size at least a bit. It functions well, though. Pretty hefty click, a bit odd feeling but not an issue. As for the pen, I can't say too much about it as I'm planning to use it to take notes for the upcoming semester and haven't had much time to use it, but I do have a bit to say. It feels alright in the hand, the weird oval shape doesn't feel super great but it's fine. Haptics are an interesting feature, unless you're an artist (honestly maybe even then) it's a bit gimmicky, although pretty cool. Buttons function great. One complaint I have is that there's a sticker with all the regulatory info on the side, and when holding the pen the edge of the sticker makes my hand itch. Can easily be removed, but it shouldn't have to be.The alcantera material feels pretty good, but I am a bit worried about if it'll start to "fray" or something after using it for awhile, and how quickly it'll get dirty. So far so good but it hasn't been that long.
