I actually own the discontinued copper version of this hair mask… But it was not an option for a review. My hairstylist bought this on sale from the beauty supply store for me to try since light copper color, depositing masks are harder to find than you would think. I dye my hair, a very natural shade of red With more yellow/gold tone. It’s a level seven but anyway, I really enjoy how thick this color depositing mask is, but you really have to be careful not to get it near your roots or it makes your hair way too heavy and greasy. I also don’t love the smell of this compared to some other product I’ve used to using the Madison Reed color, mask or nothing at all. It’s fine.

I use this conditioning mask to add just a subtle amount of wine-Bordeaux colour to my naturally reddish brown hair. I only apply a small amount throughout the ends of my hair to keep the look natural looking. But if you apply it more thick and thoroughly, then you really get a dyed hair effect, but with lots of shine!  I’ve gotten lots of compliments on how my hair looks. Plus questions about whether it’s my real colour or not. People can’t quite tell, which is what I want :)

Beautiful color

I'm a 65 yr old lady with some gray hair, mostly in the frontline. My hair has been professionally colored at the saloon for years. I have a light brown tone with golden highlights. With the pandemic I started rethinking about going back to the saloon and using chemicals, so I decided to give this color mask an opportunity. I have used it only once and didn't covered the gray hair well, but the rest of the hair looks beautiful, completely covered, soft, shinny and smelling really nice! It was very easy to apply. I did the test first, as recommended, and then all the hair. No messy at all. It was like 10-15 minutes in total in my hair, since I started the application. Dark Brown Hair results

Like many right now, I wanted to try something new with my hair while I can experiment freely even though I have darker hair naturally. I got the Bordeaux hair mask since that one said it would work alright with dark hair. I hadn't seen many reviews with dark uncolored hair, so thought I'd weigh in. My hair is normally dark brown; I also haven't dyed my hair in over a year so the only part with previous (faded) color was on the tips of my hair. The process of using the product was more time consuming than I thought it would be since as it goes on it becomes a bit stickier as it dries on your hair into a "mask", but it did comb through nicely each time I had to comb. I left mine on for 20 minutes and BARELY saw any effect color wise. It is there, but not really noticeable in pictures even in sun. My husband couldn't tell I had done anything. The brightest results were at the ends of my hair that has been previously colored and the strands that I had worked on first, so it might work best with previously colored hair or just need to be left on a lot longer. As other reviews state, it does not color greys at all, which I knew going in based on other reviews, but thought I'd confirm that as well. DO use gloves even though it does not specify. I thought since it did not stain my skin for the skin test, I would be alright to skip gloves. That was a mistake. Oops. I got the larger bottle, so will use again and try to leave it on longer next time. I may lighten my hair a bit beforehand next time to experiment that way too. Overall, the mask itself does smell decent and does feel great, I can tell it would work on lighter hair or dyed hair a lot better, but for the amount of work involved, I did not feel the "color" aspect is as advertised for darker hair in general. The woman in the before and after pic clearly had some highlights, but there is also no way she only had it in her hair for 5-10 minutes. I feel they should be up front about the fact that it won't really show up in a noticeable way on uncolored dark brown hair. The label itself says "for light to dark brown hair" which isn't really accurate IMO.It wouldn't let me select, but my hair is wavy, medium-thick and I purchased mainly for the color aspect.

Great to maintain color between salon appts

Keeping the vibrancy of red and copper hair color between salon appts can be challenging. This mask works wonders in maintaining my copper hues and moisturizing my curls. It smells good and keeps my hair shiny and healthy. I've repurchased this twice and plan on continuing to use it.I recommend using gloves when applying this product. The orangy hues will wash away from your skin, but it will stain your nail polish or bare nails.

My colorist counts on me using this!

My natural color is brown with reddish undertones - mother nature has decided to add a ton of SILVER highlights. My colorist covers them up heavy on the red and gives me different highlights, but instead of blonde (hello 1987 lol) I wanted copper. The toner fades fast, so I use this with every wash and OMG it makes my overall colors absolutely POP!! He has even said that he can't get me to this level vibrancy that will last and recommends I keep using it. Just like any hair product, if you want even results, you need to have even distribution, so you need to comb or shampoo-brush it through. I also do a super quick towel blot before applying. My hair looks and feels amazing after using. Helpful hint - I did buy a couple dark brown bath towels just for use on my hair.

No go. Patchy uneven colour, uses too much. Waste$

It definitely deposited Color, but was extremely patchy & had different tones, with some areas being bright bubblegum pink and others being a muted barely there pink. I followed the directions to a T and still couldn’t get full saturation of the colour. It became even more patchy, with some areas being back to bleach blonde the very first time I washed my hair after applying. Very disappointed in the product, especially for the price, as I now have uneven pink in my hair, and weird patches of bleach blonde poking through. Will most likely return due to how bad it looks, how the colour isn’t close to being even, and it practically rinses right out next hair washing. Nice scent and decent feeling hair afterwards, which is why I’m giving it 3/5.

Works amazingly well

This mask works so well to temporarily tint my hair. Last year I went from graying dark brown to blue. The burgundy color worked really well on my processed hair after blue faded. I tried copper which is a little bright but pretty. I also bought a cocoa, which worked really well to cover my grays on top of my head. The reason it is four star is not five is that I find it drying. My hair type is thick and coarse, wavy/curly. And 58 years old 😳 Definitely recommend if you want to have fun experimenting with color without anything permanent.

life saver

i went to the salon and overspent on a terrible color job. the color washed out after 1 wash and i had patches of blond and violet. my sister told me about this color depositing mask and WOW. it gave me a beautiful even crimson color that looked better than the original dye that I spent so much money on. 3 washes later and it's still there just a little lighter but still nice and even. it was easy to apply. didn't come off on my hands. I just wish they had more colors. my mom wants to try it but purple, pink, etc. are not exactly what we are looking for.
