Excellent Tent

Bought this a little while ago and have already taken it on a couple of 2-3 day trips backpacking and car camping. The tent is fairly light, durable, and extremely quick to set up. Plenty of space for one person (and a dog!) - two people would be tight, and may cause problems in cold weather due to condensation buildup potentially wetting out portions of a sleeping bag in contact with the tent walls. I haven’t yet tested this in cooler weather due to the season, but even the most breathable tent/fly setups are prone to this. Not a drawback, but something to be aware of if intending to use this tent for two people.Being a freestanding tent, it is inherently more versatile than the hornet - ideal for rocky areas where staking out a tent may not be possible.I have ... MoreBought this a little while ago and have already taken it on a couple of 2-3 day trips backpacking and car camping. The tent shape/design sheds water and wind well when properly set up and oriented. Inside, the tent is well thought out with plenty of storage space and little places to store bits of gear.Highly recommend this tent for solo campers looking for a tent that balances weight, durability, and features. However, I subtracted 1 star as it is not ideal for two campers. For those camping in pairs, I’d suggest some of NEMO’s larger 2 person offerings, as divvying up the tent assembly between two backpacks will still result in lighter loads.

The NEMO Dragonfly is one of the best ultralight tents on the market in my opinion. While it isnt the lightest tent on the market I believe it offers the best blend of pack size, weight, comfort and durability out there in the UL market. On the interior, the taper adds a lot of room near your torso which makes it feel a bit less closterphobic. It also offers excellent head room. At 5'10 i still have several inches above me. Didnt feel cramped at all, although i do not think this is a tent youd want to consider trying to bring a dog or child into. Its truly a 1 person tent. While sparse on pockets like most UL tents it offers a spot to put a light in the ceiling, one big mesh pocket and a handy phone pocket, which should be enough space. While sparse on pockets like most UL tents it offers a spot to put a light in the ceiling, one big mesh pocket and a handy phone pocket, which should be enough space. It also fits an XL thermarest xtherm with some room to spare for reference. On the outside, the fly provides good rain protection. It is the bare minimum size to save weight. This means you really only get one exit and one vestibule. Thats just part of the compromise needed to keep weight and size down and is normal in the UL space. The vestibule seemed big enough to store a normal 50L pack.Assembly was a breeze, as is the case with most newer tents. The connections to the poles and the connection of the fly are really well thought out to both provide a secure connection and keep weight down. On the subject of assembly, it is worth noting that this is not a completely freestanding tent. This means that it needs to be stretched out and staked down to get the full interior space. Thst being said you could get by in a pinch if you couldnt stake all 4 corners down for whatever reason. The interior would just be more cramped. The stakes provided are of very high quality and a lot better than the basic steel ones.Durability is maybe the only concern on this tent. While it does not necessarily concern me and it is reasonably thick given its weight, it is a tent that you are going to want to take care of. This is not an 80D fabric car camp tent that can take a ton of abuse. The tent floor and fly is thin. I wouldnt want a dog in or near it out of concern it would tear it and id recommend being careful handling it to extend its life.Overall I find this to be an excellent and extremely well thought out 1 person tent. Without a doubt one of, if not the best option on the market in my opinion. I have the 2P version as well and it is also excellent and has held up to countless backpacking trips. If you are in the market for an ultralight 1P tent and this is in your budget I would not hesitate to buy one.

This tent is amazing! First, the small packed size and light weight are so impressive without sacrificing tent space or durability. It’s got to be half the packed size of my previous 1P backpacking tent. Nemo touts this OSMO fabric as the latest and greatest, and after testing multiple times in varying conditions, I have no complaints. The features of this tent are what really set it apart though. Single person setup is a breeze, with clickable connector points and just the right amount of adjustability and comfort features. The fly design offers substantially more vestibule room than a standard single-point A-line style which is important for a small tent like this. There is a cool feature at the top of the fly zipper where you can pop open the flap and leave a protected opening in the zipper to let condensation escape and improve airflow. I’m sure I’m forgetting other awesome features too because it’s just packed with subtle great ideas. Hats off to Nemo for this one. Highly recommend purchasing the footprint for this tent too for added protection from the elements.

Great space & quality, nitpicking setup
24 March 2023

The tent is great on floor space and headroom. The poles and stakes don’t quite hold the width out tight, so it can seem like it has less width than it does until you get two pads in there and spread it out. It’s light and packs small compared to tents in lower price points I had before, and comparing it to its peer from another brand in the store, it had more headroom and appeared more durable, especially at the pole attachment points. The stakes are Y style, lighter than the old generation of ground hogs, heavier than the new generation, and they are slightly shorter from point to hook than either version. The rain fly is quite close to the tent at your head and foot, but there are extra guy out loops there to pull it away if desired. The rain fly is quite close to the tent at your head and foot, but there are extra guy out loops there to pull it away if desired. It comes with 2 extra stakes, so I think doing this is implied. The vestibules have enough room for my medium sized dog. When setting up, everything attaches to the tent. It is quick and easy to set up in dry weather, but there’s no way to get the poles and rain fly tensioned without the tent, so I have not yet figured out a good way to set it up in the rain without getting water in the tent. You can stake out 4 of 8 points on the rain fly, the points that hold the vestibules out, but I was on very hard ground, in wind and rain, when I first tried this out in the wild. I ended up just tying off to rocks and going as fast as I could. I may put grommets in the webbing on the footprint (not included) myself so I can at least temporarily put the poles in there. I did have some of my ground hog stakes with me. I bent one of all three varieties, driving them with a heavy rock, before giving up. Perhaps the included stakes were a bit weaker than the competition (the hook does penetrate nearer to the axis), but I’ve never bent an alloy, Y style stake before, so these were exceptional circumstances. The photo shows the stakes from lightest to heaviest, left to right. The zippers behaved. The rain fly didn’t leak. It handled modest wind in open desert just fine. And being able to sit up straight with room to spare (I’m 6 foot) for this weight is great. Overall I like it.

I tested the NEMO Dragonfly 1p in three different conditions: initial set up in my living room, backpacking overnight in dry conditions, and in my backyard in rainy conditions. I backpack a longer trail every summer between 150-250 miles along with many weekenders. I found the following pros and cons of this tent:Pros:- pretty lightweight for a free-standing tent- very easy and intuitive to pitch and pack up- decent floor and headspace for 1-person tent (I'm 5'4" and this has ~1ft more space above my head while sitting)-ample vestibule space in front of the door to shelter your pack- water evaporates quickly after raining- lightweight stuff sacks that allow you to store part of tent (like poles) on outside of pack if needed- uses recycled fabric and the ... MoreI tested the NEMO Dragonfly 1p in three different conditions: initial set up in my living room, backpacking overnight in dry conditions, and in my backyard in rainy conditions. I tested this tent in heavy rain/no wind conditions and the floor of the tent remained totally dry; however, I am not sure I would bring this tent in rainy, windy conditions. I can imagine wind with heavy rain will end up in the tent just because the lack of much overlap.- the top, short cross pole sets directly on top of the longitudinal poles. I am concerned about long-term friction breaking the pole. It should have a basic separator between cross poles.- cheap, heavy stakes included. Definitely swap them out for lightweight ones to save weight.I can imagine this tent is best suited for those who want to backpack up to a few days and can predict good weather or only drizzle. I would not take this on longer trails with regular evening thunderstorms and hail (like John Muir trail) which is unfortunately the purpose of making a tent with this hybrid fabric.

Ideal Lightweight 3P Tent
13 July 2023

I recently got the NEMO Dragonfly 3P Tent and I was thoroughly impressed with its performance and features.First and foremost, the standout feature of this tent is its incredible lightweight design. Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, it's perfect for backpackers who prioritize minimizing their pack weight without sacrificing comfort. This makes it an excellent choice for long hiking trips or any adventure where every ounce counts. It provided the perfect amount of room for a trip with a friend and her dog but happily could have fit a third person rather than the pup! This tent is still light weight enough for a back packing expedition and compresses down well for car camping or any other excursions. The 3 person footprint lends itself well to creating a bit more space for not a lot of extra weight.Setting up the Dragonfly 3P Tent was an absolute breeze. NEMO's innovative hubbed pole design and color-coded clips made the process intuitive and quick. Even in windy conditions, the tent remained stable and secure. The included stakes and lines further enhanced its stability, ensuring it stayed firmly in place. The Dragonfly 3P Tent boasts a spacious interior that comfortably accommodates three people, with ample headroom for sitting up and moving around. The symmetrical design and steep walls maximize usable space, allowing for convenient storage of gear and personal belongings. The two large doors and vestibules are well-placed, offering easy access and extra storage options for wet or muddy gear, keeping the interior clean and organized. We experienced some light rain/dew in the morning and the OSMO fabric kept us dry without any moisture pass through into the tent. The Dragonfly 3P excels in in regard to ventilation. The tent features two large mesh windows and a mesh ceiling, allowing for excellent airflow. Condensation was minimal, even on humid nights, thanks to the fly's ventilation options. The durability of the Dragonfly 3P Tent is exceptional. The high-quality materials, reinforced stitching, and attention to detail contribute to its robust construction. I found it reassuring that NEMO stands behind their products with a lifetime warranty, giving me confidence in the tent's longevity and reliability. The NEMO Dragonfly 3P Tent exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its lightweight design, easy setup, spacious interior, weather resistance, and excellent ventilation make it a top choice for backpackers and outdoor adventurers. Whether you're embarking on a solo expedition or heading out with friends or family, this tent will undoubtedly enhance your camping experience. I highly recommend the NEMO Dragonfly 3P Tent to anyone seeking a reliable and feature-packed shelter for their outdoor adventures.

NEMO quality, but not quite UL. A fair trade off?

I received this item in exchange for my honest review. The NEMO Dragonfly OSMO 3P is a very good tent and on par with other options at this price point. The fabric seems good and the tent poles felt sturdy. However the weight is not very impressive when compared to the competition and the sides are sloped so that it was difficult for me to feel truly comfortable in.I used the tent for a solo camping trip in the blue ridge mountains in spring of 2023. It seems pertinent to point out that I usually opt for much lighter gear, I’ve been using GG The One for awhile as my go-to. I agreed to try the 3P because 1) I am 6’4” and wanted to really see if a larger tent would be a better “fit” and 2) I usually do solo hikes so I have never had the opportunity to test out a 3P ... MoreI received this item in exchange for my honest review. It seems pertinent to point out that I usually opt for much lighter gear, I’ve been using GG The One for awhile as my go-to. I agreed to try the 3P because 1) I am 6’4” and wanted to really see if a larger tent would be a better “fit” and 2) I usually do solo hikes so I have never had the opportunity to test out a 3P in the field before this. To compare this to other tents I went to rei and compared the packed tent to their inventory in regards to size and weight.I find NEMO overall to be a very high end offering, making high quality, lightweight, yet durable gear (my NEMO shower comes to mind). This tent nails those three points perfectly. While it is not as light as some other options at this price point ( and it is considerably heavier than dyneema options at 2x or more the price) it does feel a bit more durable and sturdy. The poles particularly feel very well crafted and there is absolutely no wiggle in the joints once they are put together. The fabric is supposed to be very hydrophobic but I didn’t notice anything in particular that stood out over other brand new tents I’ve used. I did notice some condensation on the inside in the mornings, but nothing like my GG single wall. The fabric does feel particularly durable and is lightweight. The tent dimensions were adequate for a man my size, I was able to store my gear inside but there is gear storage outside with the fly on. For this trip I used a therma-a-rest long, an eco quilt, and a klymit foam pillow without my head or my toes touching. I set the tent up in the back yard to test other kit and with a thicker big Agnes sleeping pad and a 20 degree sleeping bag I did touch the sides. I would need to sleep a bit diagonal to avoid this is I wished to do so.As far as the “3P” designation is concerned, that depends on whom you are trying to stuff into this tent. Three of me (6’4” 200lbs) would not fit. A foot shorter and 50lbs lighter and you may fit three people in there, their gear however would have to stay outside. At my height I would use this as a 2P tent with no problems, and for me it’s a great option for that use case. Two people and a dog would work very well. The sloping sides meant I could only really sit up to do things like change my pants or bend over the deflate my sleeping pad in the center of the tent. It’s not a deal breaker for me and it certainly isn’t as bad as some options out there but it could be annoying over time.I guess there is some option to split up the tent into two parts for easier carry in a group setting but I did not get to take advantage of that. If it were 2 pieces that would make the weight a lot more tolerable though, especially if you are used to UL hiking. More realistic for this model might actually be someone on a motorcycle, dirt bike, or bicycle. The sturdy design and roomy interior would make a very nice shelter for someone who isn’t carrying that extra weight. I would use this in all 4 seasons (where a winter canvass tent was not applicable) without a second thought.Overall I like this tent quite a bit. The quality is definitely on par with what I expect from NEMO and if that holds true over time then this tent should last for many excursions. Tents do break down over time so it won’t last forever and you’ll have to weight the mid tier price tag against the high quality materials and build to decide if it’s worth it for you. If you do a lot of hikes with people 6’ or under this might be a great option for you and worth checking out. If you are looking for a roomy solo or duo option then this is a great tent to consider. It’s also great for one person, but depending on what you’re used to it may seem a bit heavy on the trail. This is a great tent from a great company, if it fits the bill for you then you are not likely to be left disappointed.

This tent is really awesome! I tend to have an issue with the length of single person tents as I am 6’ 2” and my toes are often times pressed against the wall of the tent. Because the walls at the head and foot are nearly vertical on this tent, there wasn’t an issue with the toes touching and it fit my long thermarest trail pro with no problem. There was also plenty of space to sit upright in the tent with headroom to spare. There were plenty of loops for guy lines and little hooks for rolling up the door flaps when not in use. There definitely isn’t room interior for keeping your pack but there is just enough under the awning for one but not much else. The directions for assembly are a bit lackluster, however all the poles, clips, and straps are color coded so ... MoreThis tent is really awesome! There definitely isn’t room interior for keeping your pack but there is just enough under the awning for one but not much else. The directions for assembly are a bit lackluster, however all the poles, clips, and straps are color coded so assembly was pretty intuitive. It came with a pole splint and a couple tear aid patches and the tent stakes are good quality and lightweight. I usually camp with a bivy so this is considerably larger but altogether it doesn’t take up too much room in the pack and if I separate the poles and carry them externally it’s actually about the same size as my bivy. Packing the tent back up was pretty easy (took two tries to get it right but that was my own fault) and I was able to fit the footprint in the bag with the rest of the tent. Unfortunately I didn’t have a banana for scale but I included a picture with some other common camping items to give a rough idea on how big it is.I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.

The Go-To for Lightweight Backpacking
19 June 2023

This is my new go-to backpacking tent. In short, this is the lightest tent I've ever used, it was comfortable, and set-up was easy.Despite being so light, I felt that this tent was not too tight for two people with sleeping pads that narrow at the feet. There's also enough height to comfortably sit up. I'm so glad this tent has phone pockets on both sides! There are also extra pockets in the top corners for head lamps (again, one on each side), a large pocket up top, and a canopy style pocket above the feet. We have regular length sleeping pads/bags, but it looked like we had enough extra length that you could probably fit an extra long sleeping pad/bag.Setting up this tent is pretty intuitive. Most of the poles snap right into place and are color-coded for easy assemble. Everything hooked together with no fuss. The rain cover also has color coding on the straps to help you out, and velcro on the inside will attach the cover to poles. We had the matching footprint, and it was also color-coded and easy to attach. We camped in the dry Arizona mountains, so I can't attest to the waterproofness but I did appreciate the temperature insulation the cover provided, especially since the tent itself is mostly mesh. I also really liked the design of the clips for keeping the doors open. It's easy to shove the door open, clip, and cinch, and just as easy to undo.I really have no complaints about this tent. I will note that you'll want to make sure you have tension when you put in the stakes or else the sides of your tent will collapse in a little, but this didn't bother me. Zippers worked smoothly, mesh kept bugs out, cover kept warmth in. We had enough room to sleep and sit up and had good pockets. I'll be using this tent again!

Will sleep in again
14 June 2023

This tent is the lightest tent I have EVER used. The fabric is lightweight and thin which has several good qualities and a couple not-so-good.I found that the zipper for the doors was not super smooth/easy to whip open and got caught occasionally because the fabric fits easily under the zipper. This has not ended up being a major issue, but something to keep in mind if you regularly need speedy exits from your tent.Because the tent is so thin, I was also stressed about the potential for rips, but so far so good! The material seems to be durable (even holding up nicely to a surprise hail storm). I love that Nemo did not use forever chemicals (traditionally used for waterproofing) on this tent and it stayed perfectly dry through several hours of storms. The size is ... MoreThis tent is the lightest tent I have EVER used. I love that Nemo did not use forever chemicals (traditionally used for waterproofing) on this tent and it stayed perfectly dry through several hours of storms. The size is plenty for two average sized adults. My 100-pound shepherd pup fit nicely as my partner on one occasion, but it would be a tight fit with two people and a large pup (unless your pup is a snuggler). As a disclaimer, my partner, dog, and myself traditionally use a 3P tent for our trips together. The rainfly, footprint, and tent all connected easily and the overall set up of the tent is incredibly easy. The tent also easily goes back into its stuff sack, which is unusual in my experience. I love that the stuff sack has a rolltop feature to make the bag small and compact for space saving as well. The pockets and 'shelves' on the interior are convenient and I especially enjoy the phone pocket next to each head area.Overall, I am still stoked to be using this tent and I look forward to many more successful sleeps in it.

Nemo Dragonfly Osmo Tent - 2P

The Nemo Dragonfly OSMO 2p is the 2-person tent from the Dragonfly series. The Dragonfly is all about low weight combined with plenty of space in the inner tent. At 1.41 kg (1.2 kg trail weight), the 2-person Dragonfly is a wonderfully light 2-person tent. The inner tent is richly equipped and stands out for its thoughtful details. It consists largely of mesh, but is well windproofed around the head end by a dense, very light 10D nylon ripstop. According to Nemo, fine for 3-season use, but due to the somewhat higher-cut canopy, perhaps better 2.5 seasons as cold winds can still blow heat out of the inner tent fairly easily. The Dragonfly features colour-coded DAC Featherlite NSL poles with smart hubs for generous inner volume and quick, intuitive set-up. Made from the exclusive OSMO poly-nylon, this tent promises 4x better water repellency, 3x less stretch in wet weather and 20% higher strength than comparable fabrics. OSMO composite fabric is completely free of flame retardants and is woven from 100% recycled yarns to reduce waste. Durable Y-pins and Jake's Foot clips for the poles are included to make set-up even easier and safer. Other handy features include our overhead Nightlight Pocket headlamp diffuser for a comfortable glow at night, equipment pockets for storing personal items.
