My wife and I love this sleeping pad so far! It is fairly nice and compact, and we have taken it on a number of camping trips ranging from the Rocky Mountains to Great Sand Dunes with good results. We did wind up putting a couple of foam pads under it for the Rocky Mountains since the night was going to get down into relatively cold temperatures (mid 30s, F). We did wind up getting a small hole in it (likely due to a cactus from Great Sand Dunes), and that was a bit of a pain to track down, but we were able to patch it and the pad is back to good as new now.The vortex air bag it comes with is great at filling it, and it normally only takes me 8 or 9 breathes to get it fully inflated. It is nice that it is a doable pad for longer treks without having to strap multiple single-person pads together.

I did a lot of research to decide what was the best mattress for me and my lady, tested sizes in stores and what have you. We are both 6ft tall, so the tall wide was perfect. Regulars seem just a little too little for us.What I've yet to see in the photos is that this actually tappers in depth from the head/pillow to the foot. Where the head is a little thicker, the foot gets thinner. Personally, I love this. It's probably a 1 degree or less incline which seems to also help with my snoring. The pressure valve helps a great deal to find the ideal resistance for our side sleeping and being thicker at the head allows for a greater depth for my should to fall into.We took these out to Temagami this late September and it got down to 3°C at night and I didn't notice any ... Not a lot, and probably less than others, but it's unfortunate that Nemo doesn't offer a sleep cover for it. My old Thermorest had a cover with lightly rubberised straps that prevented the mattress itself from shifting and the fabric was just grippy enough to prevent my sleeping bag from traveling. Unfortunately, I will have to seek out a creative or third party solution to this problem. Otherwise, 5-star product, hand down.

I bought the regular wide. I will start by saying, this is a comfortable pad. I also own a Tensor. I sleep better on this Quasar 3D than the Tensor. I know there are people who disagree. I have tried both for multiple nights. The Tensor makes my back hurt every time.I like the curved sides. I like the raised head rest. I toss and turn. I sleep on my back, sides, and stomach. When I sleep on my sides and stomach, my arms are typically under my head/pillow. Having the slightly raised head rest on this pad just feels comfortable to me. I also like to read in bed before going to sleep. I can prop my head up with two pillows and it works out nicely. The drawback of the raised headrest is that some pillow straps aren't long enough to go around it. I had one strap tear ... I can prop my head up with two pillows and it works out nicely. The drawback of the raised headrest is that some pillow straps aren't long enough to go around it. I had one strap tear the stitching where it attached to the pillow. I've found that I don't really need a strap. The raised head helps me keep up with my pillows.I'm just under 6 feet tall. When I lie on my stomach, with my arm under my head, my feet hang off the bottom of the regular length pad. I should have gone with the wide long. Also, even though this is the wide, I find, when I'm lying on my back, my arms often fall off the sides of the pad. If they made a long extra wide, I would probably buy it, but first they really need to address my biggest complaints with this pad. It's heavy, especially for the insulation. It seems like they should be able to make a pad with the body supporting properties of this Quasar 3D, but with the insulation/weight of the Tensor. Get on it Nemo!Until I can get a long version of this pad, this is my go-to pad. ...until they come out with my ideal pad described above. I will lug the extra weight for the comfort. I'm also a hot sleeper and I live and backpack in Arkansas, so I don't see many freezing nights. This is a great pad but there is room for improvement.
The Nemo Equipment Quasar™ 3D Insulated Sleeping Pad - Double is a game-changer for any camping or outdoor adventure. With its unique 3D construction and innovative insulation technology, this sleeping pad provides unmatched comfort and warmth, ensuring a great night's sleep no matter where you are.The double size is perfect for couples or anyone who wants a little extra space to stretch out, and the durable yet lightweight materials make it easy to pack and carry. The pad also inflates quickly and easily, saving you time and energy.Overall, I highly recommend the Nemo Equipment Quasar™ 3D Insulated Sleeping Pad - Double to anyone who wants a high-quality sleeping pad that will keep them comfortable and warm on any camping trip.
It is really actually hard to review this as I haven't tested it out in the elements, but have used it in a sterile environment at my house. It is easy to inflate with the included pump sack, and comfortable for the generally short time I lay down on it. The scooped design with it tapering from head to toe makes this a very comfortable pad. I have had back issues since my mid 20's (I'm 38 now) from a shattered pelvis over 10 years ago. Because of this, my back constantly hurts and it's hard to sleep. This pad is almost as comfortable as my bed at home. Regarding the shipping, it arrived quickly and packaged well. Overall, I'm impressed with this pad, but this is based on a limited time using it.
Used the pad about 7 nights total. Pad was quiet and super comfortable. Dealbreaker that initiated a return with REIs guarantee, which I’ve never had to use before, was I crept towards the foot box throughout the night. This caused me to readjust at least once through each night. Surmised that the elevated headrest and curved baffling encouraged this. Each night woke up with the pad about 1 ft closer toward the foot of the tent and myself about 2 feet closer to the foot of the tent. After a few nights of realizing what was going on dubbed it the nightcrawler. Figured it might be due to not sleeping on level ground. Slept on level carpeted floor and same thing happened. Returned for Exped of equivalent weight and insulation rating.
If you are cold or uncomfortable or slip off the sleeping pad and end up on the ground at night, you don't sleep well. Then your day just isn't as much fun as it could have been. I researched many sleeping pads before I bought this one. I had spent a few nights on a whitewater canoe trip using 2 Thermarest self-inflating pads belted to each other so that I had a double thickness of support. They were not comfortable, I easily slid off them, and I was not warm. They were bulky, taking up much valuable packing space. The Quasar 3D sleeping pad met all my needs. They were not comfortable, I easily slid off them, and I was not warm. They were bulky, taking up much valuable packing space. The Quasar 3D sleeping pad met all my needs. The most important reason for choosing it was that the baffles vary in depth and shape in such a way that the body naturally moves to the center of the pad. The baffles are gently curved, not perfectly horizontal. This makes it easier to stay on the pad. The baffle at the head of the pad is higher to make a pillow stay on the pad more easily. As soon as I lay down on this pad, I didn't want to get up. It was so comfortable. I didn't feel myself sliding to the edge as in many other pads.It is 3.5" thick and insulated on the bottom with R 3.3 insulation. Much heat is usually lost through the ground. Insulation on the bottom is important.I did not want to deal with a solid pump, something else to lose or try to pack inside a tight stuff sack. I also do not like the idea of exhaling into a sleeping pad 50-100 times. This has an innovative pump sack which fills with air as you flip it through the air. Then you roll the sack closed just like a dry sack to force the air into the pad. It takes perhaps 5 fills, no placing your mouth on a valve and blowing endlessly. This is the easiest inflation I have ever experienced except for the self-inflating Thermarests which I have had for >30 years. It is easy to inflate the pad hard and then adjust the hardness easily with the micro-adjustment tip of the valve. The sack packs flat and rolls up with the pad.I bought the Quasar 3D Long Wide .. I am 5' 5" and 140 lb. I don't need the extra 5" of width (20" or 25") and 4" (72" or 76") of length. But when I lie down, I like to have a few inches between my body and the top/bottom of the pad. I don't like to roll over and have my head or feet slide on to the floor. My son and grandsons are near or > 6' (72") and I know that they will be borrowing this. I'd rather have the versatility of taller people also being able to use it.I was amazed by the small packed size and weight of this compared to my Thermarests. Its packed size is 9.0 x 5.5 in/23x14 cm (8.0 x 4.5 in/20x11 cm for the Regular insulated model). That's the size of half a sheet of paper. Its packed weight is 2 lb, 4 oz/1.02 kg (1lb, 12 oz / 790 kg for the Regular insulated model). The uninsulated models in both sizes are lighter. But the extra few ounces of weight for an insulated pad are probably the most valuable ounces you will have on a camping trip. The ground conducts a lot of heat away from you if you do not have insulation. You will pack more than this extra weight in clothes to keep warm while you sleep.I also like the rectangular shape rather than a tapered shape. It is too easy for knees and legs to slip off a tapered pad. People are used to rectangular beds their entire lives Getting used to a tapered mattress pad adds an extra layer of complexity that can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. This pad has all the characteristics which are important to my sleep.
This is hands-down the most comfortable sleeping pad I’ve ever owned or laid down on. The 3D contouring of the pad does contribute noticeably to comfort, and is thoughtfully designed. There are slightly larger baffles to lay your head on, while a shallow depression in the torso/hip area keeps you centered on the pad. Towards the foot end the contouring flattens out, presumably to let your feet fall wherever is most comfortable. Included pump sack takes a bit of practice but functions well and is a nice touch. The storage sack for the pad includes a mini repair kit too.So, how’s it sleep? Coming from other pads, I tended to inflate this one pretty firm, and while it was still more comfy than the average pad, it wasn’t the cloud dream I hoped for. The magic happens ... Coming from other pads, I tended to inflate this one pretty firm, and while it was still more comfy than the average pad, it wasn’t the cloud dream I hoped for. The magic happens when you use the micro-adjust valve to deflate this thing just a little bit (while you’re laying on it!) until you can feel your whole body sink into it slightly. At that point, prepare for the best night of sleep you’ve ever had on an uneven, rocky patch of ground.A few more notes:-this pad isn’t too noisy! Don’t expect utter silence, but it is significantly quieter than other ultralight air pads I’ve had.-the material is quite soft on your skin, and I’d be happy sleeping on it without a pillow, but this soft material also seems difficult to clean and prone to absorbing things like oils. Over time I’m curious how dirty this top fabric might get; for now I make sure to use a pillow or cover the head baffles with a camping towel.-I purchased the WIDE version of this pad, and I’m glad I did (it’s so roomy!), but note that most “2-person” backpacking tents will NOT accommodate two wide pads. Prepare to feel like terrible sleeping partner when you realize your mat takes up 70% of the tent floor space.
I bought two of these for myself and my wife and both of us absolutely hated them. We both found the elevated head baffle super uncomfortable especially if you use a pillow because it tilts your head in an odd angle that craps your neck. We also found that we both kept slipping down and off the pad because of the elevated head baffle. We also felt that the pad was really cold so much so that we could feel the cold seeping up through the pad almost like a cold draft and keep in mind that we tried these on a warm summer night. I had a worse night's sleep on the NEMO Quasar 3D Insulated Air Sleeping Pad then I have on any other pad including closed foam pads (neen backpackingfor over 20 years).
