Nemo Tensor Extreme Conditions Sleeping Pad Regular Mummy
The Tensor Extreme Conditions is an ultra light mattress from Nemo.Weighing just 485g, the Tensor Extreme Conditions is one of the brand's lightest mattresses. It has an amazing weight-to-warmth ratio and is the warmest and best insulated mattress on the market. As well as being lightweight, this is a technical mattress that is also ultra-compressible and comfortable, thanks to its flexibility and excellent stability. This is because the Apex membranes offer excellent load distribution and the increased number of insulating layers are strategically spaced to increase the R-Value to 8.5. When it comes to insulation, 20D Nylon will do the job of giving you optimum insulation while keeping the weight down. It's perfect for use all year round, in all temperatures. The Tensor All-Season has a new multi-functional valve for faster inflation and deflation. A lightweight pump bag is included with this mattress. The Tensor Extreme Conditions is silent, which is much nicer! Its construction and weight make it the mattress of your dreams!

I found that my arms lop over the sides. Oh, the cold, cold ground...

I wanted to get a warmer sleeping pad for winter camping than the 3-season Tensor with foam pad under it I've been using the last few years, so I had high hopes for the Tensor Extreme. Yes it's definitely warmer than the normal Tensor, and mostly worked for me in temps down to 12°F.However, even in temps in the 20°'s F, I still kept finding myself with the occasional cold spot in the pad in the middle of the night. This is when fully inflated, and after shaking the pad well to make sure none of the inner foil sheets are stuck together.I'm not sure what is causing this, but overall it makes the pad feel closer to pads I've used with an R-value of 5 than the claimed 8.5. Yes it's a warmer pad than I'm used to, but I do't trust it enough to leave the closed cell ... MoreI wanted to get a warmer sleeping pad for winter camping than the 3-season Tensor with foam pad under it I've been using the last few years, so I had high hopes for the Tensor Extreme. Pairs up great with Exped FlexMat. I was cold at elevations and low 40s in my Feathered Friends 15-degree quilt with a previously purchased Sea to Summit Etherlite XT air pad. The people at FF said to go for more insulation underneath me. With the Nemo Tensor + Exped Flex, I was plenty warm as the high 30s mountain winds blew around me. I dislike tents. The whole point is to see the night sky and watch the arrival of dawn overhead.A narrower set might work on your living room floor, but I was on slightly sloped ground and there was some slipping and sliding going on during the night. I cannot imagine staying on top of anything narrower. I'm a slide sleeper and have to flip periodically. Mostly I stayed on it. It made for a spectacularly rewarding couple of nights.
I purchased this last month for a week-long river float in Montana. Nighttime temps were upper-teens to lower-twenties. The pad was comfortable and surprisingly warm. I bought it specifically for the r-value and was not disappointed. An important note, make sure to have an appropriately rated sleeping bag to go along with the pad or you will still get cold! The pad was a little noisy when repositioning at night due to the mylar inner layer but it didn't bother me.It is also well built with a sturdy outer shell. Quick and easy to air up with the included inflation sack, and just as easy to deflate and repack. Overall it was exactly what I needed and I look forward to using it for years to come.
This is a dig more about Rei.. have sales and never have any stock.. unacceptable..especially when they close all their stores for black Friday. At very least they should give buyers the opportunity to back order these sale items for the sale price but they don't.The pad is nice but way overpriced. At the sale price it's kind of a fair deal..but IMHO still overpriced.. there should be at least a 70D fabric on the bottom of a pad like this.Pad is comfortable, but is kind of bulky. Great for weekend or short hikes.. for a thruhike you may want to look at thermarest if you're counting ounces.. all depends on what you want and your needs are..I give the pad 4 stars. Minus a star for not having better/more durable materials on the bottom side..especially at the price ... MoreThis is a dig more about Rei.. have sales and never have any stock.. unacceptable..especially when they close all their stores for black Friday. Two reviews for the price of one!1.) I used this pad on January 3rd on Pikes Peak, down "below zero" celsius at 3109 meters above sea level (shout out to all the Canadian backpacking YouTubers) and stayed toasty warm in a 30 degree comfort-rated synthetic Marmot bag. I sleep cold, and sleep quality has always been the barrier to longer trips. Heat retention was truly excellent! I love this pad, and I'll be using it for all my fall and winter trips.2.) Secondly: REI and the REI co-op member who returned this pad after one use in your back yard, whoever you are, I have to say THANK YOU because I picked up a PERFECT/NEW long-wide at 45% off retail from the re-supply shelf at my local REI. I also picked up a tensor ultralight insulated for 90% off retail the same way ... MoreTwo reviews for the price of one!1.) Was initially planning on returning this pad after using a couple nights in warm fall temperatures (low 50s). It was very loud and worst of all, extremely slippery which made it difficult to sleep on when the tent was on the slightest of angles. Unless the tent was on perfectly level ground, the sleeping mat and sleeping bag kept sliding everywhere. As a cold sleeper though, I changed my mind after using this pad in 30 degree weather. It was noticeably warmer than my original foam pads I brought for comparison — and I’m glad I gave this pad another chance. I’ll have to find a DIY solution to make this mat less slippery and put up with the noise for now, as this mat has been the biggest game changer for cold weather backpacking and camping.Inflation takes about 6 ... MoreWas initially planning on returning this pad after using a couple nights in warm fall temperatures (low 50s). Wanted something warmer but ultralight like this for an upcoming winter thru-hike. But, after a short shake-down trip on a wilderness hike, I am going to go back to a humbler, less-racy pad. It looks sleek. Love the colors. Weight is good for its high R-value. It is very warm and comfortable and really amazing when lying perfectly still. But, yippee, any movement and it is like a bouncy house, and the surface is very slippery! My WM Versalite bag just kept sliding off it even though I was on a flat tent site. Tried to deflate a bit to no avail. Tried to deflate more and fold top down to make a pillow out of the excess (for me) length. That worked for a bit with clothes bag and my arm holding the top folded down. It is so long for my tent (BA UL Copper Spur), it leaves no room for back pack at feet, top of pad keeps pushing up against tent wall, making condensation possible. By 4 am, after bouncing and sliding off all night, it ended up propped up on inside wall of tent, and I just was using my Nemo Switchback under me. I needed a short wide, but Nemo doesn't seem to make that size yet. If they make a short version and make the material on the top-side less slippery, I would buy it again. Don't try to do any camp chores inside tent just sitting on it. Use something else for insulation under you while organizing gear, etc. This pad would be great in large tent with a group of campers on extreme trip. Too big and bulky for needs of ultralite solo thru hiker, but some may think differently. Super warm, so 5 for warmth, 1 for sliding and bouncing, so 3 overall.
Took a chance buying this online, as it seemed expensive; however I wanted maximum insulation and I am pleased with performance when used tenting in icy conditions. I was skeptical that the vortex inflation bag was going to be effective, but found it very easy to use and inflated the mat with only a few breaths. Reasonably quiet mat, not too slippery. The mat also fit easily into the storage bag, which is always a plus with hiking gear- not having to struggle to pack up. I had to look at another website for the size of the mat (when inflated) as mummy-shaped mats are purposefully small and it is necessary to check the dimensions against your specific body dimensions. It suits my frame (average at 165cm) though I am wide in the shoulders.
