New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (Switch)

Game is great! 4 player action. You would think that more players would make this game easier, but in actuality it becomes more difficult, fun, and frustrating. As a parent, I think this game is definitely a good game to play with your children. They have enjoyed beating and rebeating the levels with me as I push them to collect all the big coins! The Music is fantastic. The levels and hidden items, paths, are superbly made. Mario and Luigi and Toad and Toadette (who can transform to Princes Peach) take on this epic adventure. Also there is an easy mode with a rabbit. If you want to use less skill on a certain level, then go with the purple rabbit. 2 thumbs up here, though.

As fun as it ever was!

This was the Wii U's big launch game in 2012. I played through it then, along with New Super Luigi U expansion that followed later, and 100-percented both of them. They were equal parts fun and frustrating, due to Nintendo's pixel-perfect stage design and propensity for devious challenge. Nothing about this game exactly reinvents the Super Mario Bros. formula, but that's not a bad thing, because these games are always clever and fun, and knowing what you're in for makes it easy to jump right in and know exactly what you're doing. Re-playing this game seven years after its initial release, I still found myself unable to put it down until I'd completely finished it. Re-playing this game seven years after its initial release, I still found myself unable to put it down until I'd completely finished it. The inclusion of the New Super Luigi U DLC gives you an extremely challenging experience to jump into once the core game is finished, its shorter but much more difficult levels always beckoning you back to try again after repeated failures. Competing this part of the game is a satisfying and cathartic experience. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe may not be a necessary purchase for those who owned and played it for the Wii U, but it's still a solid game that has been given a second chance at life on the much more successful Switch, and that's a win for everybody. Having a version that you can take with you on the go is a definite added bonus, since it's a game that can easily be played in short bursts and lends itself well to the portable format.

Good Game, Wait for sale

it's a good game, but this is definitely not the best Mario game you could get for the switch. When compared to the original release, it is nothing special. The new additions are not too fantastic, just 2 characters that serve as essentially super easy modes. However, if you have never played this on the original release, it could be worth picking up. Better to wait for a sale, since it is one of the few Mario games that drops under 40

Great Mario Game Updated for the Switch

Following in the recent trend of porting excellent Wii U games to the Switch comes New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Considering most people never played this version, skipping the Wii U altogether, this is a fresh game to them. If, however, you were one of the few who owned a Wii U, you've probably already played this game. The original "New" Super Mario Bros. was released on the portable Nintendo 3DS in 2006. It was then updated for the Wii in 2009, and updated gain for the Wii U in 2012. This is an update of the 2012 release with a few twists. While this is essentially the same game as the Wii U version, there are a few new features to make it feel fresh-even. It's worth playing even if you've played the Wii U version. While this is essentially the same game as the Wii U version, there are a few new features to make it feel fresh-even. It's worth playing even if you've played the Wii U version. The "story" is per usual--Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and Mario and company set off to rescue her. It also includes the New Super Luigi U expansion. In this mode, you have 100 seconds to finish every level as Luigi. He jumps higher, but is a bit more floaty. It's just enough of a change to make the levels more difficult. So whats new in the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe? Two new characters are playable: Toadette and Nabbit. Toadette is like an easy mode to the game, while Nabbit is a super-easy mode. Unique to Toadette is the Super Crown power-up that turns her into Peachette, giving her a double jump and Peach's floating abilities. Additionally, all 1-Up Mushroom blocks she hits now give 3-Up Moons. She is easier to control. She stops sooner than Mario and Luigi, making her less likely to fall into pits. She doesn't slip on ice. Swimming is also much easier. She gets an additional 100 seconds on Luigi U levels. Nabbit, historically a minor villain in the series, is now a playable character. He does not pick up any power-ups, but can still open the containers. He is not damaged by any enemies on-screen. However, he cannot ride Yoshi but instead bounces off of him. Like Toadette, he is less slippery and moves like she does on land, ice, and in water. Other updates: Additionally, the game now runs at 1080p, (up from 720p in the prior game) Nintendo has added some secret levels that were not available in the original game. While all of these things are good, we've been through this story, and the same power-ups, for a very long time. (2006!!) If you've played the prior games, you will notice the few changes and updates. But it's time for something more fresh from the New Super Mario Bros. I would have preferred an entirely new game instead of an update to the Wii U version.

Great game for fans, or anyone for that matter

A pretty fun game. If you grew up playing Mario 2d like myself on nes and snes (80s kid) then you should like this. It’s boat loads of fun, although I found it really frustrating to play with kids in multiplayer as it takes a lot of communication and working together. If someone decides to just run ahead it messes everyone up. So I definitely prefer single player. It’s a bit short, if you want Mario and 2d this is still fun but probably only worth it on a sale. I think I paid $39.99 for mine. If you want 2d Mario with tons of content then Mario maker 2 is awesome with never ending content as it’s community driven. Mario maker 2 just has a weak story but that’s not the point of it. This would be a 5 star from me if there was just a bit more content. I could probably ... MoreA pretty fun game. I’ve never played the wii version but I heard it’s essentially a 1:1 port. If you’re a Mario fan this game is worth it. I also feel the replay ability is high with Mario games.

I LOVE this game!!! Brings me back to the NES!!

Let's be honest, I bought a Switch because I heard they were making games similar to the old style I liked. I hate these 3D games. I never know where I'm going nor what I'm doing in them. With that, I decided to buy this game. It's like Super Mario 3 only in 3d but better! I love the items, and being able to switch characters around too. This is SO MUCH FUN! There is the ability to make this a s 2-4 player game as well. And if you do play with 4, it is a riot! People going too far and accidentally killing you all is a blast. All in all, highly recommended! There's so much to discover in this game!

It's great for families who've never played.

This game is pretty good, if you are a family or someone who has never played a game in the new super mario bros series it'sgreat for you or family! My only problem with it is that If you HAVE played the games before it, it kinda follows the same pretty boring formula and for a full $50-$60. Overall, it was pretty fun, if you or your family members have never played, Totally buy! But if you have played the games, it's not too different from NSMB U on the Wii U, You could still enjoy it, though.

Similar to other Super Mario games but still fun!

I purchased this for my 13-year-old son. According to him, this is a very enjoyable Mario game. It is an advanced version (or “port”) of the Super Mario Bros U. game on the Wii U. In the Switch version, there is a surprising amount of content that will really excite someone who likes to get the full experience out of games. There are two full campaigns, a challenge mode, and two multiplayer modes. The two campaigns in this game are quite fun. Both offer imaginative level designs along with great, but simple control options. Mario U is the first campaign, and it is a pretty standard Mario adventure. Luigi U changes up the level designs, physics, and time limit of the game leading to a more challenging adventure. Unfortunately, a lot of the themes have been done ... MoreI purchased this for my 13-year-old son. According to him, this is a very enjoyable Mario game. Unfortunately, a lot of the themes have been done before in multiple other Mario games. This is the fifth entry in the New Super Mario series, but it does not offer many new features. Both Mario U and Luigi U (the 2 campaigns) are good, but unoriginal (Mario U more so than Luigi U). But this changes with ‘challenge mode.’ If you thought the main campaigns were hard, this will be much harder. It is tons of fun trying to get gold medals on all of the challenges. And the game even offers two multiplayer modes to play against friends in, Coin Battle and Boost Rush, which are both fun. Overall, the game is very good, but it is similar to previous Mario games so only 4 stars. Music, graphics, and gameplay are standard, but the game itself is great!

Went from SMB3 To This (sort of)

I had the original NES and Game Boy when I was a kid. Super Mario games were my favorite on these consoles. As I got older, I did not get any of the newer Nintendo consoles until the 3DS and the Switch in 2017. I skipped everything from Super Mario World to the Wii U version of Super Mario Bros. U. The last platformers I played in the Super Mario series was Super Mario Bros. 3 and New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. There were a lot of different enemies, power-ups, and moves between the two. With New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, I see it's more of the same -in a good way- and now with HD graphics. I love that the game has its challenges and is not too easy. Even for younger kids who may find it difficult, playing as Toadette/Peachette and Nabbit can make the game more balanced for them while also keeping it somewhat challenging. I also like that there are other ways to play rather than following the main story. Super Luigi U is frustratingly difficult, but also a lot of fun. I also like watching my Mii run through courses in the mini games that are included. I was surprised that there was also a multiplayer option for this game. I tried it with my younger daughter who played as Toadette and we found it more difficult than playing alone, mainly because we played at different paces and it was difficult for us to synchronize. For players of the same skill level as each other, multiplayer may be beneficial to them.

much better than I expected

disclaimer: I wasn't the biggest fan of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It was a fine game, but it didn't click for me. So when I saw the sequel, I was hesitant. I picked it up on sale, and I can safely say this fixed most of my problems with the original game. NSMBUD (what an absolutely terrible name) plays like a sequel to Mario Bros. 3. It's the 2D Mario game I never knew I wanted. A few negative points worth mentioning: As with basically all modern nintendo games, there are completely pointless motion controls that should have been mapped to a controller. But it's Nintendo, so they aren't. Make sure you have at least one motion controller (joy-cons, pro controller, etc) or you won't be able to move some platforms. the Luigi game plays like a nintendo-made rom hack. ... Moredisclaimer: I wasn't the biggest fan of New Super Mario Bros. It had a lot of promise, but Luigi's physics are absolutely terrible. Coupled with an extreme increase in difficulty, I absolutely can not recommend that half of the game. It would be fine if Luigi controlled sensibly, but he doesn't. Wasted potential Overall, worth it for the Mario half alone.
