I bought this dash cam bundle from Very.co.uk. In November 2021. I wasn’t sure if a cheap dash cam would do the job so I decided investing a bit more because I live and work in Greater London and I’ve been witnessing lots of bad driving, including in the area I reside, where racing seems to be the norm and the consequences are people getting injured or property destroyed.Very as usual has been great with the delivery and I received the order by the end of the month. I was so excited to test both cameras so I rushed to book an appointment with my garage to install both cameras. I was so excited to test both cameras so I rushed to book an appointment with my garage to install both cameras. I kept the bundle boxed and unwrapped in the box for at least two weeks because of the garage’s availability so very stupidly I didn’t try the camera before any installation. The “D” day came. The garage made a wonderful job as the wires were concealed properly and both cameras were working but … they left the SD card provided with the bundle untouched and they advised me to follow the instructions and leave the camera to charge overnight and then insert the card. I followed the advice and on the following day my excitement was wiped out. The SDcard wouldn’t stay in place. I knew that the SD card slot is spring loaded, so when inserting the card, fully pushed into the slot for the this to click into place but, neither me, my son and a friend were able to make the card remaining in the dash cam. We didn’t feel the click so the card was not in place and I kept receiving a message on the front camera to insert the card. I have a hectic live so I only could report this fault a few days before Xmas.Very asked me to contact Nextbase which I did and in fairness staff was very helpful although I felt that they were delaying the claim process as I received repeated emails asking over again if I had followed the instructions on how to use the SD card, which I reported I knew what I was doing considering that I have good IT skills.I have also complained about the battery on the device and I was surprised to discover that, the Series 2 Cameras have an internal lithium-ion battery for emergency uses only! I bought this bundle because the way it was advertised made me believe that I bought a very super dooper dash cam!! The internal battery has around 10-15 minutes of battery life. However, with the Rear Camera added, the battery life drastically reduced due to the additional power draw. So, I end up buying a dummy dash cam as using both front and rear cameras the battery life is drastically reduced to 1-3 minutes if fully charged. My disappointment started when I stupidly didn’t try the 2 cams before an installation was made. I took the car to my local garage and this was pricey, almost the double of Nextbase advertisement: offering this service at a competitive price around £85 but you need to consider that this could mean only one camera. The advertisement states “start from”.My bad luck!! During the Xmas period I couldn’t use the cameras and when I sent the front camera for Nextbase to repair a drastic incident happened. On the same weekend someone hit and run my car. This isn’t unusual in the area I live but unfortunately the CCTV neighbouring also didn’t catch the incident. This has been so frustrating!I feel proper mugged. My main reason to purchase the bundle was specifically to use in the Parking Mode. Little I knew that for this feature I will need to use a Hard Wire Kit because the Cigarette Lighter Cable is to use all the time when driving. It’s annoying to have the cable dangling over the gear box . My advice is : buy a cheap camera with minimal installation because I bought “dummy cams”. Remember if charged the front and rear camera will only record 1-3 minutes.I would love to have my money back but this means that I’ll have to pay to disassemble the bundle. I need to consider that I’ve lost a considerable amount of money: I made a bad purchase, installation and the repair of my car which would be recorded in 1-3 minutes. If the emergency battery was working.I don’t recommend buying this bundle because didn’t worth what I paid for it. I had a very basic market dash cam that worked better.I rate 4star for Nextbase technical support team. They kept in touch, they were friendly and they followed through with the arrangements. One start less because of the double emails sent asking if I followed all the steps before contacting about the faulty camera.

Single physical button to press to save a clip if something is observed while driving is good.Battery when new lasts 12 minutes, this isn’t designed to be a stand alone self powered Dashcam , it’s just to power on the dashcam for it to record a minute clip in park mode.Purchased for £111 with various Halfords discounts at the time, add a £13 Samsung EVO Plus 128Gb card, so £124 all in, i think that is a good price for a Dashcam package of this quality and camera optics/video footage recording.

I had to reposition it as when it rained the recording was not clear, all I could see was raindrops. Moved it 5cm lower and it's now perfect, luckily it came with a spare window sticker. My old dash cam constant popped off the window in the heat but the 422 sticks to the window and is much more secure. It can be removed in two ways, either just the camera (magnetically attached) or the camera and fitting that attaches to the sticker (sliding it off). This means I don't have to leave it overnight or in the sun if I don't want to, it also has a park feature which I'll try once I've connected my phone. The charging cable can also be connected either to the camera or the window fitting. I am so pleased with it, it has greatly reduced the anxiety I had after being crashed into and worrying I would be crashed into again. Why the 422? Well, it also has a rear view attachment you can buy that records car cabin and out the back window. Thank you to the staff in Halfords who patiently explained the features of the camera. It was easy to fit and set up.

Good Recording Quality
8 March 2022

I bought this to replace a cheaper camera that stopped working. It makes sense to pay for the extra quality. The recordings are clear and it hasn't failed yet. It is easy to review clips on your phone and lock recordings to stop them being deleted. The Alexa voice function is supposed to be good, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I'm not an Alexa fan though so it is not a deal breaker for me. I also haven't hard wired it yet but when I have I hope the parking security function will be useful. I like the telemetry and map data that you get with the video recording too. It's a bit more evidence when needing to highlight who was at fault in an accident.

Handy little device - looks fancy

My first impression after installing the 422W Dash Cam is that it's a sleek and compact little unit. People seem to drive more carefully around me - as soon as they notice that I have a dash cam! This is my first cam, so I've had a few teething problems - for example - the screen always turns on (even when it's not connected to power). I (think) it has a sensor which picks up on any movement and turns the camera on automatically (very handy for security when your car is parked). So there are some big pro's:- Pretty good video quality, including a wide angle of the road and surroundings- Super long cord - which I've threaded under my car mats and pushed into the windscreen with the little "Power Cable Fitting Tool" that comes in the box- Two options for ... MoreMy first impression after installing the 422W Dash Cam is that it's a sleek and compact little unit. I chose to use the suction cap as I figured it'll leave less mess if I ever remove the device. The suction fitting just requires you to unclip the "lever", position the dash cam where you want it, and then pull the lever back down to lock it. It seems pretty sturdy so far.- It has a magnetic connection, which joins the front of the camera to the dash mount (very easy to connect and disconnect)The only downfalls for me (so far) are all based around connecting the camera to the MyNextBase App. I find the app loads very slowly, so downloading the footage has been a challenge. I started connecting Alexa, but it asked me to download another app so I decided not to.The battery drains extremely quickly when it's not connected to power (for me, anyway) but it charges whilst driving, so that's not really an issue.Overall, I think this cam is super handy, secure and great for peace of mind, especially whilst driving and if your car is parked overnight in a public space, like mine is.

This little dash cam is always on in my ambulance combi, not because of the prospect of a prang, but because of the daily risk of idiots in London. It's a constant witness to illegal driving manoeuvres and more seriously, hassles with road rage and intimidation. It's faithful and reliable and really puts my mind at ease; it's only the confusing set up with Alexa that lets it down. It pairs easily with bluetooth connectivity, installs easily, shows its icon clearly and the touchscreen is a joy, but just try getting Alexa (on your smartphone) to get the dashcam to do anything - forget it. I've had it 3 weeks and I just go round in circles and I have now accepted it probably won't happen without either a new YouTube post or a morning spent on some helpline where they talk me through it.This is obviously not a technical thing, just not enough clarity in the (online) manual. But you can't fault the device itself. There's a great SOS feature that will help you out if you are severely injured in a crash. Also, you need to get your head around the fact that theres nothing on your phone even if it looks as if there is: just like video editing software like Cyberlink etc, theres nothing actually there; what you see is the gateway to the SIM card lurking in the dashcam. It's also a bit disingenuous to claim that "now you can ask Alexa to play music" etc when that would happen anyway through the smartphone Alexa app, either via bluetooth speakers or through your phone... , dashcam or no dashcam.BEST FEATURE: is the instant grab of a locked file at the press of a button.WORST FEATURE: Round-the-houses hassle with Alexa. But its quicker to take a screen picture or grab a locked file than it takes to ask Alexa to ask the Dash cam to (oh, my head).

Any footage can be quickly downloaded to your phone using the app and includes full telemetry such as map tracking, coordinates, speed etc.I'd say this model is perfect in terms of sizing (part of my reason for choosing this model in the range) as it tucks behind the rearview mirror, so barely visible when driving.Once the camera setup is complete, it automatically runs (you can enable the screen to switch off after a few seconds, which prevents any distraction at night)This is one of those pieces of technology that (hopefully) is never needed, but worth every penny when it is.

Problems since day 1
14 July 2022

I bought this dashcam (with a rear camera attachment) around October 2021. I chose this on recommendation from a friend who claims Nextbase is the cream of the crop when it comes to dash cams. The software and app are awful, but that didn't really matter to me as long as it does its job of recording my drives. At first, I had an issue where there were 1-2 minute gaps in the recordings. The cause of this was an incompatible MicroSD (Nextbase are very particular about the type of MicroSD you use). So I upgraded to a high-speed MicroSD which resolved the recording gap problem, but the video recordings still have noticeable lag spikes, which is not ideal.Even though the recording gap issue has been resolved, I still had issues with huge delays on the audio (E.g. If I slam the car door, this audio would appear 5-6 seconds after I had actually slammed the door on video). The audio recording wasn't that important to me anyway, so I turned this feature off.A few months down the line, I had an issue where the dashcam would be stuck on the loading screen and wouldn't start up or record at all. I was able to resolve this by updating the firmware on the dash cam.But now the icing on the cake is that as of 2 months ago (April 2022) the dashcam is out of focus, meaning the video is blurry. This isn't something you can fix or adjust yourself, and any attempt to do so will VOID the warranty.I'm honestly lost for words here, a dash cam is the one thing that you need to be reliable. But this dash cam has been nothing but trouble and is now effectively useless.

Really good starting point for a dash cam
27 October 2022

The quality of recording is good and I am quite happy with this . This is being used with the official nextbase SD card.It was very easy to install myself and installation of the apps also fairly straight forward. The downside is the SOS feature is chargeable and this is not made clear and annoying that this was something you find out after, the sos feature is difficult to install.I have purchased a rear cam attachment from elsewhere and used this also however I do recommend the wired one for more clarity and clear view as this cannot be achieved with the add on one .Whilst the dash cam is on you can download and save the individual recordings however this is not possible once it is turned off .The magnet on the dash cam to the holder is quite strong and ... MoreThe quality of recording is good and I am quite happy with this . Utter garbage
24 March 2023

I have had this just over a year. Of course you hope you never have the need to use the footage but its reassuring (right?) to know its recording should the worst happen. I had an incident yesterday so was reassured to know that i had footage to back me up. But no. a succession of error messages - 'this file cannot be played back at this time' (oh, so maybe if I try later it will be different?). In essence, these devices are too complicated. We just want footage of an incident we hope will never happen. I now regret wasting several hundred pounds on this and the potential for saving literally 10s of thousands in a car accident court case is lost forever because this piece of garbage doesn't work.
