BEST Portable Grill/Air Fryer!

The first use created a little bit of smoke, but after that it was fine. We are now in our new home and we find ourselves using it all the time! It is THE BEST air fryer - we’ve had many. Everything comes out perfect and crispy. We use it in the winter for grilling purposes as well and couldn’t be happier. This is definitely our go-to portable appliance. We absolutely LOVE it! Cleaning is so easy-although it takes a lot of space in the dishwasher, it comes clean. I HIGHLY recommend this product! We bought ours at Costco about 2 years ago and absolutely love it and rave about it every time we use it.

For quick convection type cooking it beats my convection oven hands down in preheat and cooking. Its preheated and cooked chicken nuggets before the large convection is even close to preheated so for a small couple or single person household its very efficient. Cooks nuggets and French fries very well and better tasting then microwave. The product literature is fine but it was disappointing to find the what’s includes sheet is different from the outside of the box. The box says "crisper plate" while the guide says it comes with a crisper basket that nests inside the main cooking pan. The plate works fine but having a basket for fries to pull out is much better for food transfer and dumping. So if you want the backet you have to buy that for $31. :( The interior size of the cooking area is perfect for normal food and better then a dedicated air fryer for space. The grilling grate it comes with is very sturdy. The splatter shield is solid but would not wash that in the dishwasher or any of the trays or they will wear quickly plus they hand wash in 30 seconds anyway with the nonstick. My only grip is the unit is a bit louder than expected and not having the crisper basket. For the price on sale it was a good buy and is a great backup to the main oven for cooking smaller meals in shorter time. Wish the warranty was a bit longer then a 1yr.

The best investment for indoor cooking!
2 June 2024

I have had 2 of these so far. The make the best grilled indoor steaks, and hamburgers ever! I have also made a whole roasted chicken to perfection, homemade fries, chicken nuggest from freezer. If you have never reheated pizza in the airfryer, you have to try it! You will NEVER use the microwave again! I only have one complaint, after using it all the time after a while the air fryer basket starts to stick. Not a big deal, but after this happens I do want to just buy another one. And would contunie to do so, its that good!

This is not a Grill! It's an Air Fryer
30 January 2024

I hate it when the description is so convoluted sending the wrong message. This is not a grill, the grate does not heat from the bottom, it gets heated from the hot air, so basically, it's an air fryer, would've been happier if they just said that. I "grilled" 2 pieces of steak, it burnt them from the top, it came out dry, $75 steak went in the garbage. A grill will heat the grates from the bottom, not force hot air from the top. I now have a big giant air fryer, what a disappointment. Also, forget the word smokeless, yes you don't see the smoke but spreads the smell into the house with that big fan.

Finally an indoor grill that really makes food taste like it's cooked on a real outdoor grill! I have tried many indoor "grills" over the course of my adult life, and none of them have ever come close to replicating the grill flavor and texture that I want.... so I was hesitant to try this Ninja Grill because I've been disappointed so many times in the past. But I was looking for an alternative to turning on my main stove/oven to cook dinner, since it makes my apartment so hot, so I decided to give this a try. All I can say is I wish I had bought it sooner! I've only tried the Grill setting so far, but it really does make meat taste like it's cooked over an open flame. I am so happy it was on sale for Prime day, otherwise I might not have tried it. I can't wait to try the air fry function next!

[Rewarded Review] A great, versatile many-in-one appliance.

Ninja makes a variety of appliances and over time have developed some really neat items. The Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 is a new indoor grill, but it also can air fry, bake, roast, and dehydrate food, in a near-smokeless countertop device. It’s not tiny at 11 inches tall by 14 inches wide and 17 inches long (approx), but you wind up saving counterspace since it does so many things and replaces several separate appliances. It looks nice and feels well built, too. It looks nice and feels well built, too. The kit includes the base unit, a grilling plate, cooking pot, crisper basket for air frying, recipe booklet, splatter shield (screen), and cleaning brush. The Foodi uses 500 degree “cyclonic air” that whirls around your food while inside, giving an even cooking, more quickly than some traditional methods, and nearly eliminates the need to flip many foods over since the hot air flows around it, with only a few exceptions (steaks, etc). You don’t even have to defrost most items and can just put them inside frozen, and it can pop-out char-grilled meats in as little as 25 minutes or less (depending on how well done you like your food). You can cook at low, medium, high, and max settings, and control temp and cook time. It did our Steaks and Chicken faster than traditional methods. We splurged and grilled a couple of Filet Mignons, and the Foodi did an excellent job making them just right (our way – a little pink inside but semi-well on the outside). The steaks were not dry at all and even had grill marks from the grill on them. From thawed they cooked perfectly at around 16 minutes with one flip in-between. The same with a couple of Chicken breasts, only less time is needed with those. An included 4 quart crisper basket let us air fry some Mozzarella sticks and Chicken planks using almost zero oil. Tip: Get a spray bottle meant for oils so you can spray just a very small amount on the air fry foods perfectly evenly, and they come out really well and with a lot less fat (rather than just drizzling oil on them). At some point I want to dehydrate some meats for jerky, but this process does take longer. It’s pretty straightforward though, and based on the results so far, should come out just as good as everything else.Cleaning is easy enough. While you can put the grill plate, pan, and basket in the dishwasher, we just did it by hand and it worked fine.Of note, the Ninja does use just over 1700 watts of power when cranked up. Our older house tripped a circuit when we first tried it on one outlet, but using another that could handle more, we were then able to work around that. Just something to be aware of if you have an older home with older electrical boxes. The power cord is also only 34 inches and I’m a lover of longer cords, so it would have been nice to have seen a longer one on this – but yeah, I’m being nitpicky on that. The “smoke free” system also did basically a good job, though after doing a couple of things in a row with it, there was a very LITTLE bit of smoke – nothing the vent fan above the stove couldn’t handle, though.I really like the Ninja Foodi 6-in-1. It covers a lot of territory and does it well. I can see a lot of future meals being made on this! Recommended, and the 5 stars is that for the price, you do get a lot and it does it well.

Just as important, there is a full size Owner's Manual, a Quick Start Guide, and a Recipe book. This absolutely does have a counter top profile-it easily fits below your upper cabinets and not overtake the depth of those counter tops either. I love the ease of clean up with ceramic-coated pans. I also agree that there is no smoke or foul odor when cooking that does occur when cooking on your stove, thereby affirming that their engineering of air intake, air outflow, and grease accommodation must be done correctly. However, in order not to have those smoke and smell issues, the manufacturer recommends only the use of the following oil types-canola, avocado, vegetable, grapeseed, refined coconut and not use olive oil, butter, or margarine. Additionally, another thing that must be done to limit smoke and smell is to maintain the cleanliness of the splatter shield that attaches to the top of the unit's hood.In all function applications, it is definitely stated to preheat the unit and there is a preheat button that has a pre-programmed amount of time. Then after pre-heating is done add the food and it will cook for a pre-programmed amount of time at a pre-programmed temperature unless you manually adjust either of these factors. If you use this machine to successively cook multiple batches within the same function or use multiple consecutive times with different functions, it is recommended to wipe down the splatter shield, clean out any grease or oil in the grease collector on the back, let the unit pre-heat again and then add food. I found the Quick Start Guide invaluable because it has all sort of tips and tricks, grill function explanations and how to's, and a grilling cheat sheet that literally gives you times and temps for room temp foods, as well as, guidelines for cooking either fresh or frozen food. While I am generally happy cooking with this model, there is one main reason that I gave this unit only 3 stars--it is because this unit does not have the ability to use a thermometer to cook your proteins to perfection based on how you want them based on internal temperature. There are models that have 2 thermometer ports so that technically you could cook steak and chicken or steak and fish, whatever you want at the same time and each of the proteins come out to perfection. I do not know which models have either one or two thermometer portals, but I would imagine that the increased price would be worth it. No matter what model you wind up with, remember to sign up for the warranty, you just never know.

I also noticed the splatter shield that protects the heating element and the grill brush and I appreciate the thought. As I was prepping my chicken I was planning on grilling, I let the foodi grill preheat on high as it was recommended, and once I placed my raw chicken tenders on the grill grates they immediately started sizzling the way they would on a grill and it was just so cool. The cooking surface was bigger than I was expecting as I fit my entire package of chicken (aprox 2.4lbs) all on the grate with room to spare. I can see 3-4 burgers fitting on this grill with no problem as well. While cooking, there was little to no mess and absolutely no smoke, I could not believe I was grilling in my kitchen. When I opened the grill halfway through to flip the chicken, it was cooking so evenly, the chicken had the perfect sear lines on it, and the food was not sticking to the surface at all, nor was it sitting in any oils or greases while it cooked. The user interface and buttons on the front of the grill were very easy and straightforward to follow, if someone has used an air fryer before or really even an oven, this will be an easy device to use. When the chicken was done I let the air fryer sit and cool and cleaned it up when we were done eating. The grill grate and the cooking pot had some food residue to be expected, and despite sitting for close to 45 minutes before being cleaned, it cleaned exceptionally well. Nothing was stuck on, I rinsed with some warm water and soap, and put them in the dishwasher, where they came out perfectly afterwards. I can see so many meals being cooked in this in the future. Our family loves grilling, however we live in a climate that is not exactly grill friendly for at least 6 months out of the year. This Ninja Foodi grill will definitely help us get our grill fix during the winter months. The only minor issue I found with this device which will take time to experiment and learn with is cook times and temps, I was trying to follow airfryer chicken recipes, as well as follow the directions and guidelines the grill came with, which were two very different directions and I tried to meet in the middle and I know my chicken could have turned out better if had I listened to likely the device directions fully and ignored my recipe instructions. Overall our family is super excited to have this new appliance in our kitchen and we would definitely recommend it to friends.

During the winter months when I don’t want to step outside in the snow, this will definitely fit the bill for getting good grilling results without the need for a traditional grill.I can also see this being useful for someone in an apartment or just for anyone that doesn’t have a full-on outdoor grill. What I like about the grilling (and other cooking methods) is that you can actually put food on while frozen and with additional cook time, it can both thaw and cook the meat without making the meat turn out chewy. It seems like Ninja always thinks about how a product can be used in many ways and this Foodi Grill is the same where it’s very versatile in the sense that it can also double as an air-fryer, you can roast stuff like vegetables in here, there’s also a baking function, and you can also dehydrate. They emphasize a lot in the instructions to use an oil with a high smoke point and this is definitely important to keep smoke to a minimum while grilling indoors. Coconut oil worked well for me but I would not suggest using butter. They make it very clear that it’s not recommended and that’s certainly the case as I attempted to use butter with a steak and the smoke, although not terrible, was much more than coconut oil. You’ll have to stick with the oils they recommend such as canola, coconut, avocado, vegetable, and grapeseed oils.Clean up is a pretty easy process as well for the most part where nearly everything that could get oily is removable as well as dishwasher safe. They include a cleaning brush for the grill grate for any food remnants and also found that useful for the air fryer crisper basket. You can also remove the splatter shield that’s mounted on the lid but I did find a little portion around the splatter shield that you have to make sure to wipe down after use.
