Shampoo: the first time i used still product you really feel the peppermint tingly on your scalp and back. Peppermint smell is powerful but dont worry your hair wont smell like peppermint the next day. It does have a natural peppermint smell. The shampoo is easy to use it lathers up nicely and remove well oils and product built up. Conditionner. Feels creamy on the hair and gives a nice hydration again it has that peppermint smell and tingly feeling. I have also been using the shampoo and conditioner. I have thin fine hair with highlights. Let me tell you this stuff has a menthol tingle to it. It actually kind of hurt the first couple times i used it. This product is only for the scalp. It's easy to use. I just kept parting my hair and spayed the treatment directly onto the scalp. The container has a user friendly tip/nozzle on the end making it easier for the product to be applied on the scalp and not all over the hair itself. This treatment is watery and not thick at all. I can get the product distributed evenly over my scalp when the hair is towel dried and not dripping wet. With all the money I spend on having my hair cut and colored, or buying products that promise voluminous hair with one use. I wasn't going to have any hair left. I started using the thinning hair line treatments immediately. I only use this product 3 or 4 times a week now its mostly for maintenance. The Nioxin hair line really works!! You just have to use the products consistently and stick with them. I wish I would have found this sooner.

A great solution for hair loss

I ended up waiting until my hair was partially dry but regretted it immediately as my hair felt crispy. I brushed it in a few different directions to hopefully break it up and it settled things. Now when I get out of the shower I put a hair towel on while I get dressed and immediately apply it afterward. You need to shake the bottle to activate the foam, applying it all up on the scalp. At this point I put my hair towel back on to let it dry, when I take it off, there are no crunchy bits at all!! My hair feels quite nice!I would recommend this Nioxin system, though progress is slower, it is different for everyone. I feel like there would be noticeable growth after a few months of use. It's also great as there are different systems geared towards different hair types giving you choices. If you find your ends are too dry, a deep conditioner will help.

Effective Treatment but Can't Solve all My Problem

First things first, I received the complete kit through a sample program, this is great because I used Nioxin kit 2 (bought it from a salon)a few years ago but with only the shampoo and conditioner and the process is so much improved with the last treatment step.I really want to love this hair treatment kit, but it is just missing some of the components that my scalp needs. First of all, I suffer from folliculitis (which is acne pimples on the scalp) since adulthood, thus resulting in a lot of hair loss due to excessive oil production and have been trying many hair scalp treatments (including nioxin). The first week was wonderful as I don't have any acne flare (because the exfoliation is still working)and my scalp is hydrated so I was not scratching my head all the time. But starting on the second week, my scalp acne is slowly coming back and by the end of the one-month trial, I'm back to having as many pimples on my scalp as I had before I got rid of them with exfoliation. However, I am definitely having more volume in my hair than before when I had patches of hair loss. I have the before photo where I have patches of loose hair and the after photo where there is fuller volume but with acne.I then test two weeks alternating between using a regular shampoo conditioner and exfoliation with the kit, the result is much better. Overall I like the Nioxin kit, but it needs additional help in my case.

Before using this product, I was experiencing excessive hair loss - my hair was coming out in clumps and started to look like a strange greasy, stringy mess no matter what I did with it - I felt so embarrassed and self-conscious of my hair the whole time and was really disheartened that nothing seemed to be working. I have now been using Nioxin System 2 for just under a year and have had great results. I did almost give up a few months in as I didn’t think it was doing anything but I eventually decided to persevere and I’m so glad I did! My parting has almost entirely regrown and no longer looks like a Christmas tree is forming. Overall, I am very pleased with Nioxin and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. The only negative is the step 3 scalp treatment foam - no matter how much or how little I use, it leaves my hair feeling weighed down, sticky and unmanageable. It is nearly impossible to brush my hair with the scalp treatment applied and the advice on the packaging is to not wash it off after application which then leaves my hair stiff and emphasises the sparse areas of my lengths due to how the foam makes my hair stick together at the root. I have now taken to applying the scalp treatment at night before bed and wash my hair as usual (step 1 shampoo and step 2 conditioner) for the daytime so that I am still using all three steps at some point but without leaving my hair a dirty feeling, sticky mess with little movement during the day.

Great hair thickening system!

I also have minor dermatitis which causes a bit of itching and flaking in certain spots on my scalp. When I first opened the kit, I noticed how fresh the scent was. It’s like a peppermint smell. After a minute or two, I noticed that the shampoo started to have a cooling effect on my scalp, making me feel like the product was penetrating my scalp and working to clean and stimulate my hair follicles. However, I’m quite happy with the system and can’t wait to see more positive results, like the appearance of thicker hair once my follicles start growing out more.

Since that time I switched to cheaper products, and then to natural products. My thinning has since progressed to much more severe. So this time I chose to try Level 2 through a free sample program. I am giving an honest review. I found the shampoo very strong which seemed to leave my hair feeling dry, almost stripped. However, on days when I used less shampoo, and used extra conditioner, it did seem to moisturize better. Not quite the softness I was getting from my natural products admittedly. Now, down to the reason you choose Nioxin in the first place… thinning. It’s hard to tell after just a month if it helps. I mean, even Rogaine products take a couple of months to see if there’s new growth, and I don’t believe this product is made to regrow hair, but to improve the appearance of thinning hair. I did find it help volumize the hairs themselves and it did seem to appear somewhat thicker. The added treatment was nice, but I also had to learn how much to use, and not apply too much to the root area or it did not style well. Overall, it is a decent system that may be provide some benefits for thinning hair if you’re willing to pay the price, but I’m not sure it’s truly worth the cost for me personally.

I received this trial kit as part of 'free sample program'.I have progressive thinning hair caused due to hormonal imbalance and had been losing a lot of hair recently. The trial kit 2 is for progressive thinning of normal hair. The 1st thing that I noticed and liked is the fresh smell and feel of the shampoo . It really feels like it is taking off all the grime and buildup from the hair and hair. However, on regular use the hair may become a bit rough , unless you use a fair amount of conditioner and other softening agents. I had to use hair serum for the hair strands along with the conditioner and the lotion provided in the kit.
