Definitely disappointed and dissatisfied. Passed on other cheap / thinner smokers for what i had heard was quality from Oklahoma Joes. I purchased the hitch along with this OKJ Barrel grill to use as a smoker and was very happy to notice the reduced price. But now I know why the price was lowered.not even ~30 minutes into seasoning the smoker, the paint splits straight down the middle on the left side of the firebox in a literal line and then proceeded to bubble and peel outwards. This then also started at the top of the firebox above the lid. The paint split from the box in a straight line and started peeling back.So now on my first day of use. I now have to uninstall the whole firebox from the barrel grill, sand everything, and repaint it.Additionally, the smoke stack on the actual barrel grill itself had the most sorry excuse for welds and was completely useless as delivered and had to be sealed with RTV silicone to even function. You would think they would actually weld around the stack and not just at 4 points around it (pictured below you can see all the gaps around the stack and its plate). leaving space for air and smoke to exit all around....Overall I was extremely disappointed in my first OKJ purchase, as I had heard so much good about their quality of finish and product. But it seems what I received was anything but.

Fast shipping… but uh, box looked like it was drug behind the ups truck! Inside was no styrofoam protection, taped up so much it looked like someone returned it., I was worried. The grill wasn’t dented to my surprise but does have some scratches on it. Nonetheless, I bought it for my dad. Hubby has the one with the smoker attached and we liked how it was built. SteelWal-mart, why don’t you sell these in the store instead of only online ??

I purchased an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker about 5 years ago. It’s been a great investment. I purchased this grill for the Oklahoma Joe quality. Has not disappointed. Can cook 12 chicken leg quarters offset on one side. You will not regret the purchase of this grill.
I ordered from Walmart.com the OKJ barrel grill and hitch in late April and I received the grill. The hitch portion of my order was canceled. I was bummed because this is a gift. At the beginning of May, I got onto the Walmart.com website to double check that the Hitch was truly not in stock on Walmart.com, with any other listed sellers on their site or in Walmart stores before hoping onto eBay and ordering the Hitch. I ordered on Ebay the SAME day I double checked Walmart.com. Again, this is a gift and I ended up paying an additional $42 for the Hitch on eBay because it was the only listing that said the Hitch would arrive in time for the party. Shipping was free. Today, I got a notification from eBay AND Walmart.com that I had a delivery coming. Why cancel my originalwalmart.com order to begin with if the item was going to be back in stock? I paid $40and still got my item directly from Walmart. No refund of the difference was offered. Something’s fishy with Walmart.com and it’s “resellers.” I reported the seller on eBay. Buyer beware!
Switched from a Weber to this Kettle Grill. Nice heavy duty grill but with a few flaws. Hard to get air tight seal on lid, needs a gasket or something. With a good airtight seal I would be able to use whats left of the charcoal in the unit the next day. (which i could always do with the Weber) Second flaw is ash pan needs to be deeper. There is plenty of room for a bigger deeper one. I might try to fit something there, like a galvanized bucket etc. Maybe OJ will correct these things or has a solution.
The design its great, heavy duty contruction thicker than my weber kettle. Only 2 down falls: the intake lid to crontrol the temperature fits loose leaving a considerable gap, and the ash container system needs to be redesigned. Seasoned mine with kinsford briketes and it was very hard to get it under 300 ' f. So far like it over my weber
The grill was very easy to put together. I was a little disappointed in the overall size. It stands about table height which is 32 inches instead of waist high which is more normal for grills and countertops. Since I am single and won't be cooking large quantities of anything it will work very well. The draft control is exceptional and I'm looking forward to smoke some meats.
Great grill for only 197 bucks. My barrel grill showed up in great condition, no dents or scratches. Door seals pretty well and overall the grill feels heavy duty. I followed instructions and seasoned the inside with veg. oil and heated it for hours. Good even heat and easy heat control. I already grilled excellent steaks and 3-2-1 ribs which turned out awesome. I'm very happy! Maybe down the road I'll covert it to an offset smoker but not yet.
found a broken weld right out of the box although i believe it will work fine nonetheless see attached pics. everything else looks good. have not cooked on it yet but it is a good looking very solid cooker...cant give it a 5 though because it wasnt perfect...
